DREAMCATCHER "BEcause" M/V REACTION!! //Dami's rap verse visually and musically grabbed me!!

I really find Dreamcatcher's music so fascinating and fun to listen to. The rock arrangements with other genre pieces is so so cool! Dami is still of course wrecking me with her rap tone and aura!

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Appreciate the Dreamcatcher love, as always! To the person that decided to put a Drum and Bass rhythm smack dab in the middle of the song: 1) What in the hell is wrong with you? 2) Please don't stop. 😂 They actually have an older B-side song that is full Drum and Bass. It's pretty dope. A guide would be cool, for sure. There is a really up to date one that I liked a lot. If you skip the title track preview section, you shouldn't get many spoilers/previews/teasers outside of some snippets of some 🔥 B-sides, special clips, a super iconic clip from their "Sahara" self-made M/V, and their Minx songs. Personally, I think it's still worth it. The member content is all live clips and special clips and there is some information covered in it that I haven't really seen in guides of the past. The music part you mention, where Dami raps, is an old electronic music style from the late '90s - early 2000s called Drum & Bass (pronounced 'drum & base'). It was also known as the Bristol Scene, in the UK. The most famous representatives are Massive Attack, and maybe Prodigy (who incorporated it's unique beat style in their songs, a lot). It was really popular at the time. Industrial is actually Goth EDM.

The genre of Dami's rap is called Breakbeat, specifically Big Beat - think The Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up or The Chemical Brothers's Elektrobank.

Breakbeat (120-140 BPM) was actually a slower Drum & Bass (160-180 BPM). They were exactly the same in every other respect.

BEcause is such a cool song! Can you believe this was their take on a summer album? 😂 All the b-sides are actually very summer-y but leave it to Dreamcatcher to say “ah yes, a haunted fairground is perfect” for their title track! Fun fact: the MV was highly inspired by the horror movie Us, which is all about dopplegangers trying to replace their originals. Idk what you’d call the instrumental in Dami’s section either, but the violin sound at the end is the signature sound from the classic horror movie Psycho if you thought it sounded familiar! The girl you thought was Gahyeon is actually Sua! She was originally part of the rap line but other than this, the only track you’ll hear her rap on is Good Night, because after that she decided to focus more on vocals. Gahyeon was the one with the pink/red hair! It is pretty easy to confuse them, especially when they change their hair so often 😂 it took me the longest time to tell JiU apart from Gahyeon and Handong apart from Yoohyeon. In this MV though, their order of appearance at the beginning of the song is JiU, Handong, Gahyeon, Yoohyeon, Sua, Siyeon. Checking out a guide will definitely help you! Just be warned most of them contain a lot of clips of their songs, so if you don’t want any spoilers for the Nightmare series or their b-sides then you might want to hold off. Another option with fewer song spoilers could be the “This Is” series by insomnicsy which does a little profile on each member in individual videos. The first section of the 2020 version videos has a song playing over it but other than that you’d be good.

During the promotion for this album I learned that horror is a kinda summery concept in korea. To cool themselves down from the heat they tell each other scary stories or visit spooky places to get chills. So it was a better fit than it first seems :D

2021 was * chock full * of girl groups going harder with music, powerful choreo, and doing dark/scary concepts (Purple Kiss, aespa, Loona, pixy, Pink Fantasy, etc.) so it was REALLY nice to see the Originals who made dark and scary popular in the first place come back and show all the new kids how it's done. It was SuA rapping during the bridge, she did it before Gahyeon started in 2019, and returned for this because her low-register whisper is perfect for this. When you hear the music change up you know Dami's part is coming, that's the custom they've developed: music changes, Dami announces herself, everything stops right in the middle of the m/v because it's time to look at her now.

Great reaction again! So gahyeon was the pink/red haired one in this video. The one who was kinda sing/rapping during the bridge was SuA, and the one who took your breath away at the end was JiU. I definitely recommend a guide, I think for my journey it was a combination of this video, the live band performance, and a guide that sealed my insomnia fate 🤣
