According to the makeup artists on IG, Dreamcatcher all wanted even more horrific Zombie makeup but the staff had to turn it down because they were idols and at least had to look a little pretty still. Also, the pink-haired zombie backup dancer is actually DC's choreographer Hwang Sooyeon!

the ones with the hat are schoolars, that was the common vest for them. The ones without it were warriors or guards. When they are still human they are wearing male clothes, but when they turn into zombies, they are wearing female clothes. The make up staffs of Kingdom were hired to do their make up, that's why it looks so realistic. Tho the members themselves asked for a really scary make up and the staffs told them they still had to look pretty so yeah lol

I believe the hats that they are wearing, were only allowed to be worn by noble people. So I guess in the world of this dance video, Siyeon, JiU and Yoohyeon are of a higher social status than the other 3 haha. Also, I believe they're all wearing Male Hanbok at the beginning, then switch to female Hanbok when they get zombified. The whole concept of the video is based off a Korean period zombie series called Kingdom on Netflix. The makeup was apparently done by the actual makeup artists from the show. If you want a better look at what it looked like, they tweeted out pictures of each member on the Dreamcatcher twitter.

Oh. I always thought somebody like the MV Director had divided the ladies between 'Tall Line' as the Scholars and 'Short Line' as the Guards/ Warriors. lol My mistake.

The hats are called 갓 (gat) and were worn during the Joseon period mostly by noble people. Korea was known as the nation of hats by Western travelers because of the great amount of different styles they had. The one in this video is probably the most iconic and was mostly worn by males (DC members wear them probably because the costumes are inspired by a popular Korean zombie series) Hats were used to identify their social class, government rank or nobility status. Although not exactly these ones, women also wore beautiful hats with many different shapes

The concept is from *"KINGDOM"* its a korean historical zombie story, it's on Netflix, even some of the outfits came out in the show itself!
@aislin29894 жыл бұрын
You should watch Kingdom - their outfits would make a lot of sense. They're all in period outfits, but the interesting thing is that they were all wearing male hanboks (the hats I believe are called Gat, they were a special hat worn only by nobles/scholars) for vocals (Jiu, Siyeon, and Yoohyeon), while rap line was definitely in lower-ranking guards/archers (Dami & Gahyeon both in very plain outfits, not a lot of embellishments - Gahyeon had a sword while Dami mimed shooting a bow in the second verse), while Sua seemed to be dressed in higher ranking style of military outfits (just from the decoration/medallion on hers). Some have said that she's being like the king (which would make sense bc we call her Queen Sua), but others say it's just a high ranking military. After they get zombied, Gahyeon and Jiu are in sort of middle/upper class female hanboks with overcoats, while Siyeon and Yoohyeon are in plainer, more villager type clothes. Dami and Sua however are still in a somewhat military style garb.

Yeah, the Dreamcatcher official site has a couple of behind the scenes videos and they show the makeup a lot closer. Yoohyeon had a bulls-eye contact for example.

fun fact: the girls actually wanted their makeup to look even scarier, but the stylist were told not too go too far cause of course they were still idols who needed to maintain a certain image.

They actually want something more messier make up than what they have in there, it is just the make up artist insist cuz they should somehow look good still, and also siyeon saw a dancer that has beard/mustache on and she also kinda want it

They are wearing traditional Joseon Era clothing. Dami is wearing a common worrior outfit, Sua and Gahyeon are part of the royal army, Jiu and Yoohyeon are nobility and Siyeon is more than likely a prince. The hats are traditionally only worn by the nobility or scholars hired by the nobility. Its funny that you mentioned Kingdom because Dreamcatcher used the same makeup artist as the show.

funny you should mention kingdom hahahaha i believe this whole production was inspired by kingdom thus the hanboks and zombies (and thus somehow dcc managed to like get hold of their makeup and stylists for this vid) they were wearing male hanboks and not sure but i think the hats were traditionally worn by scholars and other non warrior aristocrats or smthn like that(?)

Eastern horror hits differently, they’re more about creepy atmospheres that stick with you throughout rather than visceral horror. I haven’t watched a horror movie in a while but Thai horror is especially creepy for some reason. But yeah, I totally want to check out Kingdom as well after watching this.

The first Kdrama I saw was a supernatural one and it totally hooked me. Nobody does ghosts like the Koreans because a large percentage of the population still firmly believes in them and they have a very elaborate pantheon of ghost types. In the West we've forgotten most of our ghost lore. The most dangerous ghosts are those of women who have died virgins and the ghosts of female children. Once a year families set out a meal for their dead relatives so if their ghosts are around they will be pleased and not mess with the living. Ghosts are supposed to move on to the afterlife so they can be reborn, but if they have unfinished business (usually translated as a grudge) they may stick around. Being unfairly killed will keep a ghost from moving on and if they stay too long they become evil spirits and can never be reborn. Those ghosts are truly terrifying and dangerous because they can corrupt the living even to the point of possession.

When it comes to horror I typically don't like the supernatural stuff. I have a fascination with true crime, so I'm usually more interested in the twisted stuff we're capable of as humans. Always found the stuff grounded in reality as more scary. Although, I do like anything dealing with the demonic or cults too. Something like The Witch or Hereditary.
