Dreamcatcher have two very personal songs. One is Reason and the other is Endless Night. Endless Night tells of their sleepless nights and despair after the failure of Minx, then being given one more chance at their dream as Dreamcatcher. Their determination to reach the top took five years, but to win a music show had always been the top for them. Scattered among the lyrics of Endless Night are the titles of several of their songs. The sad thing is that many Korean InSomnias have never heard the song because of the historical animosity between Korea and Japan which still runs deep and bitter.

Siyeon was a vocalist in her schools rock band and listens to One Ok Rock. Some fansites say that she is a fan of the heavy metal band Warlock but thats a mistranslation from an interview where she mentions going to a One Ok Rock concert by herself.

I love that the japanese version MVs have slightly different scenes. I guess it's to match the mouth movements better. In the Japanese version of What, we see more of Handong and I'm here for it. And slightly before we have Yoohyeon singing outside, not in the bedroom in the Korean version 5:14

Dreamcatcher's contract with Pony Canyon ended during covid, so they haven't promoted in Japan recently...until this summer! They attended a concert event, and Siyeon covered the song "BETELGEUSE" by popular Japanese artist Yuuri. It feels like they're making a push to re-establish themselves in Japan, which...I would love ngl. I'm not a native Japanese speaker, but based on what I do know and how I feel, the localization for "What" is _really_ good. It's so well done. They matched both the rhythm and the lyrical content without making it sound awkward. "Breaking Out" deserves more love. Many people don't like it. But I do, so I'm glad you do as well. And yeah, their charisma really sells that MV. Their team did the best they could, and the members took it and ran. I definitely hear the part you mean in "Eclipse" vs. "Good Night" with the chorus sounding similar at the end. And yeah, the way the percussion sounds outside the chorus is almost like...purposefully low-resolution? It's not as resonant. I wonder if they removed some of the bass, or if it's just a specific kind of synth drum they have? It makes the drop sound really satisfying to me, though, when the full percussion comes back. (Also, hey, I love Handong's voice, too!)

Although What is an underrated Dreamcatcher title track...WHAT (Japanese Version) is Dreamcatcher's Japanese Debut Title track...basically it's the first Dreamcatcher's Japanese song...BTW, I don't think they reused the shot in original What MV, they probably shoot both Korean & Japanese at the same time. To rebuild the exact same prop, scene & background like the one in What MV could cost a lot of time & money especially for a smaller company like Happyface Entertainment (2018). All they can do is, shoot both in Japanese & Korean version.

JiU (I think Siyeon too) listens to Babymetal. Not sure if she still does though. Siyeon was a vocalist of a rock band during her school years and listens to One Ok Rock. Dami listens to some poprock if I'm not mistaken

There are a couple very early Dreamcatcher Notes from 2017 where Siyeon recommends and plays some songs and the rock she recs is mostly stuff like Fall Out Boy and One Ok Rock, though she does play a Babymetal song.

Dreamcatcher only made two Japanese MV's of their Korean songs. What and Piri. The MV's are basically the same as the Korean versions, but they are edited a bit differently and some very nice glamor shots of the members have been added in. I like both versions. You'll have to watch both versions back to back to catch the changes. One is the umbrella scene which has Jiu staring up at the sky while the Japanese version has Siyeon in that scene. Korean is a much more emotional and passionate language just like the people. Japanese is reserved and a little cold. Japanese do not show their emotions readily and the language reflects that. Ponycanyon is their Japanese agency. Korean agencies are not allowed to operate directly in Japan because of the historic hostility between the two nations (changing now thanks to the new South Korean President). Dreamcatcher cancelled their contract with Ponycanyon during the Covid pandemic and turned distribution of their music in Japan over to Sony.
