Yeah, so the trilogy is.. hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil I think Scream is from the perspective of the person being bullied. They're being bullied. They get frustrated and lash out, and fight back. Now, they're just copying the same behavior as the bullies. I think this best described by Dami's little rap part at the end where she's like 'one by one everyone goes crazy' or something because it's right after that that i believe the lyrics change to 'i just wanna make you scream'. Part 2, "Boca" (speak no evil) is from the perspective of those wanting to protect people from hateful words and bullying 😊

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! There are a few different ways that the change in lyrics at the end can be interpreted, which is something that's common in DCs music. They're often written in a way that's more poetic and less literal so that it can be interpreted by the consumer however they want. My take on the change in lyrics is that it's one of hope. In the MV/Song they are the victims and are being persecuted and the lyrics/MV draw parallels between witch hunts in the past and modern day witch hunts online. During the bridge the victims decide that they're not going to be victims any longer and instead will choose to try and combat the hate with good. The line's "I just want to make you Scream" & "Watch me and Scream" symbolize that they want to put good back into the world with their music. This is them saying to watch them, when they perform, and scream for them. You can throw hate at me, but we'll keep doing what we do and you'll love it and will scream for us because we're amazing. It's their way of combating the hate and cancelling it out with joy. This also feels correct to me since the follow up song (Boca) is about them standing up for others who are being bullied and telling haters to shut their mouths.

That’s very hard-hitting, I love that they can cover topics like this is their music and express it in such a way that can convey a message to everyone watching/listening, I’m definitely going to look more into their music 😊

To me, it's like they're saying "We're entertainers. It's our job to make YOU scream (with joy), not for US to be screaming because of the haters."
@marycollective82024 ай бұрын
Ah that actually would make sense, it’s definitely a nicer way to interpret it. 😊

I think the consensus interpretation is that Scream is about online bullying in general. The lyrics portray them as being persecuted as witches: the lyrics literally say they are "On top of the burning flames now" and at that point they say "I don't want to scream". But after the "burning" all the persecutors go away and act like nothing has happened at all. Faced with with that random online hatred by the anonymous pilers-on "One by one, everyone goes crazy woo" and at that point they say "I just wanna make you scream". That is, online anonymous hatred causes a cycle whereby the hated become haters themselves. Boca and Odd Eye continue the exploration of these themes of hate messages and cyberbullying. Have they experienced it? Almost certainly, but there is no particular instance or scandal that they are talking about. Being women in media they have gotten their share of the usual idiocy, but their company seems protect them to the extent they can, and the women generally seem to be pretty healthy when it comes to the topic. (Though it should be noted that their main singer Siyeon has recently had a hiatus for anxiety attacks and they are not saying what got to her which is entirely appropriate in terms of preserving her privacy).

That’s so sad that she has anxiety attacks, glad she is treated well by her company and they allow her to go on hiatus. And also thank you for letting me know about the meaning behind the lyrics, and how it is interpreted, it really is refreshing to see concepts like this so I’m really happy I can explore their music, I will definitely be reacting to more Dreamcatcher in my future videos. 😊

They have definitely experienced cyber-bullying. Both the group as a whole (calling them failed idols, saying that they're bad vocalists [sic], etc.), and the members individually. There are multiple vlives where Gahyun is bullied by commenters during the live stream; there's one where one of the commenters say that Dami's stream is boring, there's at least two streams where someone writes comments of a sexual nature about Yoohyeon (one is the video where she responds "that's sexual harassment, right? I can sue you, right?". Then there's of course the most famous case, where Gahyun is with her eonnies, and tells them that one commenter said that her pink hair (in Boca) made her look like a pink rat. It's both a very sad, and a very powerful moment in Dreamcatcher history, due to Siyeon's response. I know that they watch a lot of reaction videos and compilations, but I *REALLY* hope that they never read KZbin comments, because some comments are so vitriolic, sexist, and outright horrible that I sometimes just want to wash my eyes with bleach. That obviously doesn't apply to just Dreamcatcher's videos though. I sadly even see InSomnia's post horrible comments about other idols and other fandoms. You'd think that fans of a group that have taken a stand against bullying in several of their songs would be better than that...

Thanks for the Dreamcatcher reaction. Scream, BOCA (Portuguese for mouth), and Odd Eyes are a dystopia trilogy. This trilogy is about hate messages and cyberbullying.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. Part 2 is "Boca" and part 3 is "Odd Eye".

That’s so cool that they have a dystopian orientated trilogy, I’m really interested in groups that have songs that revolve around something that can either be imagined or experienced in daily life, I will definitely check out the other two songs that are in the trilogy. It has me very intrigued 😊 Also love that they are total crackheads off stage 😂

Since Dreamcatcher (active since 2017) now has 10 mini albums, 2 full albums and dozens of cover versions and other solo projects, it is difficult to make a selection for recommendations. I'll try it anyway to get an impression of the musical diversity of this group: "Dejavu" "BECause" "Shatter" "Justice" (all official MV). And thank you very much for your attention.

Thank you for all the info on them, really appreciate it. And once I watch the other 2 songs in the dystopian trilogy, I will look into reacting to the other songs you recommended. 😊

While there is some overlap between Dreamcatcher's and Ateez's composers and producers, each group has its own distinctive sound, and I say this as someone who is fan of both groups, although mostly Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher is most famous for the rock sound in their title songs, being known as the face of rock in Kpop. Scream is actually more electronica than rock, so it is a little bit unusual for Dreamcatcher.
