Ah. The meaning of this song (and all the Dystopia Trilogy) is about bullying & online bullying. There were themes for the trilogy. Hear No Evil : Scream. -The setting for this is kinda old fashioned & designed to imply the old witch trials in the past. -The meaning behind this one is that no one listens to victims of bullying. "There is no evidence" "It can't be that bad" "There's no reason for them to be doing that, so I don't believe it is happening" "That's just a one time thing, it won't happen again" "You have to have done something to warrant it" -The tree at the beginning is the Tree of Language. When more & more hurtful things & lies are said, it turned dark & people are forgetting good things. The members are guardians of the tree, but they are being ignored or hunted to hide the truth. -The song started with the victims/members saying they don't want to scream, but ends with them deciding to cause the same hurt & make the bullies scream. Speak No Evil : BOCA -The setting is modern. _Boca means mouth in spanish See No Evil : Odd Eye -The setting is futuristic I'm not going to say more on those two. You will have to watch them to find out. There are a few other series too. The Apocalypse Trilogy (Maison, Vision, and Bon Voyage) The Nightmare series (Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You And I, What, Piri, and an alternate ending with the Japanese song Breaking Out) And they have collaborated with a few games & have a opening for a anime based on one of the games. R.O.S.E Blu is for the mobile game Girls Gun Cafe, and Deja Vu is done for Kings Raid. They did the song Eclipse for the Kings Raid anime opening season 2.

Definitely check out more Dreamcatcher! They're surprisingly consistent in their discography, but never boring. A lot of these kpop groups that go w/ a high concept like this (for Dreamcatcher it's horror/fantasy with metal influence in the music) they will only stick with it for a few albums before easing into more conventional concepts, or bounce in an out of it. But not Dreamcatcher. Despite metal and rock never really being all that popular in Korea, they've mostly kept their original concept and I gotta respect them for it. As for other groups to check out next, you might give Ateez's little brothers Xikers a try. They're more youthful and hip-hop influenced than Ateez, but with tons of energy and they're super fun. Their concept/storyline is that they're Dokkaebi, or Korean goblins which in korean mythology can be very helpful if you're willing to play with them but if you won't they can be quite bad news. Their debut track is Tricky House, and you would probably also like their b-sides Koong and Red Sun. DPR Ian might also be a good one for you to check out. He's a soloist and kind of not technically kpop, as he's based out of LA for the most part and totally independent. But he did get his start in the industry as a kpop dancer and then in a short lived boy group. He's Korean but grew up in Australia, and since starting his solo career he's made really interesting music with an ongoing narrative around his own bipolar diagnosis. Plus he writes and produces his own music, and directs and edits his own music videos too. I like to think of him as the goth theater kid of kpop. HIs best track and most fun mv is Don't Go Insane. Since having a concept or theme is something you're probably more familiar with as a metal fan, 2 other groups w/ a supernatural concept are Enhypen and &Team. Enhypen's concept is that they're vampires, &Team are their Japanese counterpart and they are werewolves. They've got a webcomic series for their storyline and everything. TBH I'm not sure you'll be totally into Enhypen's music, but I think you'll dig their mvs for Given-Taken, Drunk-Dazed, and Bite Me. &Team's first 2 title tracks Under The Skin and Fireworks might appeal more if you ever caught the early 2000s pop-punk and pop-rock bug. Their mvs are very cinematic and their choreography is some of the most satisfying to watch in all of kpop for me. Kpop is also a great jumping off point to discover some Korean bands! Like I said, rock and metal never really took off in Korea the way it did in Japan or the west, but there are still some great bands there defying the odds. Some of my favs are Xdinary Heroes (under the same label as stray kids, they have an amazing band cover of Hellevator), The Rose, Kardi, Cloudian, Rolling Quartz, Lucy, Loren (soloist, but very much in the rock/punk genre), and Touched.

a little Dreamcatcher guide for you: for metal you'll want to check out Endless Night. they have more metal songs than that but that one has a really nice music video. My favorite kind-of-metal song by them is No More. Also, the concert version of Curse of the Spider (which is released on spotify) is good too. Break the Wall is good, and I really like Rising. For more funky songs that have rock elements: 2 Rings, Black and White (Black and White doesn't have as much rock though but it's really good) "Anime" type rock: Over the Sky, Bonvoyage, Full Moon, Eclipse, Fly High, many many more Personal favorite slept on B-Side: Wake Up (so good, heavier sound but I don't think it would classify as metal. More like hard rock.) Must Watch: Deja Vu (many people see it as Dreamcatcher's masterpiece) Linkin Park Esque: OOTD Summery: BOCA, BEcause EDM: Scream, Into the Frozen, Silent Night (Silent Night is one of Dreamcatchers most beloved Bsides), Sleepwalking Other really good Bsides: Demian, STOMP, Starlight, Wind Blows Also some things to note: Dreamcatcher has 7 members, but one of the members (Handong, a vocalist) got trapped in China during the lockdown, so she's absent in 2 MVs (this one and BOCA). Recently, the main vocalist, Siyeon, got sick so she wasn't promoting the recent comeback, Justice. She was in the Justice MV though but if you end up taking a look at live stages the main dancer and the girl I mentioned before, Handong, cover for her. Siyeon recently just announced she's feeling better so more live stages will probably be coming soon. sorry for the long comment, welcome to the dreamworld!

fyi Dreamcatcher as known as “The Face of Rock in Kpop” 😁 they massively contributed to a larger incorporation of rock in a lot of newer kpop songs, especially in girl groups. when people think of kpop and rock together, they usually think of Dreamcatcher

Scream as you can hear, is largely EDM (though you can still hear some guitars and drums in it). For more of a “classic rock" feel you can checkout their earlier title tracks (Chase Me, Good Night), their b-sides (Break The Wall, Rising, Mayday) or their japanese releases (No More, Don't Light My Fire, Endless Night). Dreamcatcher's style is more of a kpop+rock/metal fusion for the title tracks while on their bsides they explore various genres

I am not sure why everyone always recommends Scream for metal fans, but hey, here we are! It's a great intro song, many people became Insomnia after Scream. :) If you want heavy shit, check out Endless Night and No More (their Japanese tracks). Their J tracks go significantly harder than their K tracks. Their early stuff is very J-Rock inspired, starting with Chase Me, Goodnight, Fly High, You & I and Piri (and Breaking Out which is a Japanese track in that beginning "Nightmare Arc" - it's a full story). For more recent rock stuff, check out Vision, Bon Voyage, and Justice. For some grunge vibes, try OOTD. Boca is one of their most popular tracks, and it def goes hard. Deja Vu is beloved by Insomnia. Vocal queens. They have VERY diverse discography :) Also in case no one told you, Dreamcatcher and ATEEZ have the same production team! :D Edit: How could I forget to recommend Demian and Rising, they go SO HARD.

Dreamcatcher has a lot of respect in the kpop community because they're the ultimate underdog story. A group from a small company that started self promoting in public parks to becoming a million albums seller after 7 years. They're still really small in Korea because rock music is not well liked over there but are quite popular in the west because of that unique sound. Hopefully you do Odd Eye and Boca next to complete the trilogy. As for other groups, would love to see what you think of XG if you like early 2000's pop/rnb style of music

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

Odd Eye is a recommended banger for sure. They have so much content you would never get tired of it. I tell you the more you listen to them the more you'll be amazed at just how good they are. You ran into one of the really great groups in K-pop. Even though they are more of a K-rock. Tons more fans outside Korea than inside and their live shows are legend. They did Primavera a couple years ago and I definitely recommend that as the best 59:50 you'll hear for awhile....Happy listening!

From the fellow metalhead: welcome to the best group ever, bar none. 85+ or so original songs are awaiting for you. More than a few masterpieces among these, and no bad songs whatsoever. Oh, and they also do a lot of covers, however they are (usually) closer to usual lighter pop sound, but with their voice mastery and these-or-those tweaks most of covers still are worthy of playlist. Hehe, interested in what they do have to offer? This is a small yet diverse mix: Lullaby, Endless Night, Red Sun, And There Was No One Left, Silent Night (just use some recent 2024 concert video for the most optimal result). Not their most famous stuff, four b-sides and a Japanese release.

Dreamcatcher is unique in the Kpop world with their blend of concepts, social commentary and rock. Probably the closest kpop group is Purple Kiss, but they are more mainstream. There is a female rock group (they play their own instruments) called Rolling Quartz that definitely has an affinity with Dreamcatcher (they even cover their song "Good Night.")

This track is part of a three part story. The lyrics of ‘Scream’ are spoken from those who are victims of bullying, particularly online bullying. The girl who’s voice you seem to really like asks in the pre chorus why do such malicious things happen to her; one of the rappers speak of ‘those behind a mask’- eluding to those who say terrible things behind the safety of their keyboards. You mentioned how the choreography is good; they also have a dance practice for this song on their official YT channel if you want to see it in more detail.

They're great. I'm going to see them live in November and am counting down the days. Like everyone said, the meaning of the song (and a lot of their songs) is about bullying. Dystopia deals with the evils of our modern online world, the hatred, the lies, the cyber bulling and the witch hunts. In Scream, Dreamcatcher urge us not to listen to the haters and protect ourselves from the evil that people have inside. The Devil Eyes is an old evocation against evil. The tree represents the Tree of Knowledge. As the Trilogy progresses, it withers due to the people's ignorance, hatred and the things they do.
