I spent a week flying Valle de Bravo in December of 1980. I was 18 years old, flying a Phoenix 6D. 40 years later, I still have fond memories of flying there. Thanks for the excellent video!

Hey Dave, really well edited piece. Looks like a great place to fly. My last competition was at the Moab World Invitational over in Moab Utah. A Great 2,000 foot shear cliff takeoff at Dead Horse Point State Park. I really miss my days of flying with my best friend Bob Wills. we flew everywhere back in the 70's before his death. I still keep in touch with my good friends at Wills Wing where I worked for a few years until Bobs Death. Test flew a LOT of 100B SST's back then. Bob and I paid ourselves $10 for each glider tested back in those days. I'm 68 years old now but will still fly once and awhile. Wish I could still be in the Competition circles but I guess I'm going to leave it up to the Youngins these days. Take care and THANKS for the Video...

I think one aspect of this togeather flying is all pilots flyes the same intermediate glider. No question who has the better glider. It's more the question who had the greatest fun. Antoine de Saint de Exupéry said in the book the smal prince: "The big ones aways believe only in numbers!" But fun has no numbers !

Glad you liked that! It is just a super simple speed ramp at the end of the first clip. Works so well with the two clips and the music.

It's a great comp format that makes competition hang gliding more accessible to more pilots!

I once on a glassy smooth evening near Sans Souci, Manitoba I did a final tow before sunset & flew into a cloud of insects at around 1000' - spiders floating on their silk parasails caught up in one of the day's last thermals. My sink rate was too high to stay with them. They had no idea where in the wild blue yonder they were going to end up, but they were pretty sticky and a good number of them spent a few days inside my glider bag 😂

I hope all those kids become pilots! Was this event for kingposted only? Or even WW S3 only?
@designbydave4 жыл бұрын
Some of them have become pilots and were even flying in this comp! It was a sport class comp, so yeah only kingposted gliders

David Aldrich cool! Every HG pilot nowadays must be an activist for the sport. Lets get more people in the air!

Super video, but I doubt that the sport of hang gliding benefits from an intentional dumbing-down of performance. I mean, if KP gliders are cool then imagine how awesome a whole field of rogallo standards would be!
@imagrasshopper9510 Жыл бұрын
@@ParagliderCollapse that's narrow and elitist view, don't you think? HG grows from bottom-up rather than top-down. This isn't "dumbing down" at all. It opens competition to more intermediate pilots, so of course it benefits the sport.
