I was born in Detroit, and if you ever do go there be sure to visit the Detroit Institute of Arts in order to see the murals done by Diego Rivera. Also, your friends are wrong. Detroit has had many problems, to be sure, but there are also many interesting things to be seen there, which can be found in no other place. In particular, Henry Ford Museum and the public tour of the Rouge Plant, which is one of the largest car manufacturing facilities in the world. Coal and iron ore come in one side, and finished cars come out the other side. Also, Michigan is a great place for outdoor recreation, such as camping, fishing, hiking, boating, skiing, and much more.
