Silver overlay is sterling silver (as stamped) that is soldered on top of other sterling. A layered design. The bear piece is scrimshaw.

Thank you for this review. I live in New Mexico and am getting ready to sell over 100 different Kachinas that I've picked up over the past few months. I can absolutely verify that IS an Eagle Dancer Kachina on the bolo tie and it's beautifully done. One of the most important things about selling any Native American made items is to identify which tribe if possible. Zuni, Hopi and Navajo items have very different values and you can get snookered if you're not educated in the value of things. Also, regarding scrimshaw, according to the definition, A carving (or engraving) on whalebone, whale ivory, walrus tusk, etc. According to my research (and I could be wrong), Ebay regularly removes genuine scrimshaw items, so, instead, listers us the words "reproduction", "faux", "replica", etc. Just research scrimshaw items prior to listing them or it might be difficult to sell. Additionally, it's illegal to sell to New York, New Jersey, California or Hawaii, as well as being illegal to ship internationally.

I have found bolo ties at estate sales and sometimes at consignment stores when I have been to Colorado. I rarely go to thrift stores, and never have found one at any thrift store. Once I found one with the shape of a Kachina, made of sterling, and it had different types of inlay stones, kind of large size, no cord. Sold on EBay for $80 plus shipping.

Hey cat you know what else is in demandAre those old vintage tablecloth’s from the 50s and 60s I bought a picnic basket recently for $6.99 and inside it was a beautiful green tablecloth I put it up online and sold that thing for $54 maybe you can look those up and do research on them as well. Consider a research video on fountain pens. Some go really high...would like some insight what to look for. I too am an "early retired" nurse. Worked critical care for 30+ years....18 of those as a nursing director. This is so much less stress ...and if there is an eBay issue. ....no one died. I currently have 2050 item store. I have doubled my eBay store since I retired and with this economy...need to do it again. I've been on eBay for 22 years but it was previously only a hobby for fun money. I do also use hibid. I have NO issues sourcing. I have 5 rooms of death pile (investment pile) and get my motivation from you. Love love love your research videos. And your what sold videos. I do not watch "thrift w me" videos bc I have no issues finding stuff. I need to know what is valuable and what it is worth. Believe it or not...I just discovered google lens. (My age sticking out all over). Keep up the good work. You remind me a LOT of my daughter in looks and mannerisms so I have a special fondness for your videos. I just sourced 3 bolos they’re all costume jewelry. 2 of them I got in a bag for a $1 among 3 sets of earrings and a metal lighter cover with simulated stones( I had one of those back in the ‘70s). the ties on those are shoe string like with brass looking ends. the other one paid $4 with a leather tie. A couple months ago I bid on a lot of bolos but sadly was out bid.

Yep. I can confirm that bolo ties are very popular here in New Mexico (and where I used to live in Utah). They're much cooler for men to wear in summer instead of a neck tie, and they're the perfect look to go with a pair of shined up boots and a cowboy hat. When I go to church there are more bolos than neckties. (And an added attraction is that men in bolo ties ALWAYS hold the door open for me.)

Hello I just picked up a lot of bolo ties here in my shop. I think there is about 35 in the bag. But only 2 I think are real sterling and one had a stamp JT with the sterling stamp. From researching I think it stands for Jack Tom. But I can only find one tie of his. And it was thousands. Do you happen to know where I can go look for unique bolo ties? I think vintage plastics and synthetic plastics would be interesting, it gets dismissed more then one would think. Bakelite, thermoset plastic,lucite,vulcanite molded rubber,galalith, celluloid, acrylic etc. Because these items can be light in weight and feel cheap one would see no value. Some bakelite can go into the thousands. This stuff gets missed way too often.
