Dream of Italy

Dream of Italy

9 жыл бұрын

In the second episode of season 1 of Dream of Italy (PBS travel series), we go behind the scenes of the Eternal City. Romans have been making mosaics for thousands of years and artisan Nadia Ridolfini teaches host Kathy McCabe the ancient craft. Food markets like the Campo dei Fiori are a vital part of daily life. Alessandro Volpetti takes Kathy on a tour of the new Testaccio market as well as his family deli, Volpetti. Then the Di Felice brothers, owners of Da Enzo, teach Kathy to make Rome’s famous dish Cacio e Pepe. Next we get “the scoop” on gelato making at Gelateria del Teatro ai Coronari. Noted street artist Alice Pasquini shows us her work, a modern contrast to ancient frescoes. The episode ends at Palazzo Brancaccio with an historic ball performed by Campagna Nazionale di Danza Storica. Special thanks to our underwriters: Viator, Ama Waterways and Perillo Tours. Making Cacio e Pepe with Kathy could possibly be a highlight of my life. But seriously, she makes Roma even more beautiful.

3:00 Beautiful deli, thanks for the top. In Rome, I only know Franchi which is in via Cola di Rienzo near the Vatican. Once, I'd like to speak with some Italians who shop at these delicatessen shops: how often, in which occasion, what they buy...

I just happened to find your show flipping through channels. Oh it brought back wonderful memories. I’ve been to Da Enzo twice. We had a great time that has a special place in my heart. I was inspired to make the Cacio e Pepe the next night following the brothers’ instructions and I must say delizioso. I try to go to Rome every time I travel to Italy. Grazie mille.

it is surprising that this woman makes videos about italy and never mentioned the Greeks / Hellenes.. Greeks/ Hellenes colonised italian peninsula and built more than 200 cities and the most famous of them is Napoli and Rome ( after the war of the greeks with the trojans 2 greek kings flend and founded Rome).. the greek DNA is in abundance in italian population especially in the south.. even today in foodball Napoli supporters called them selfs PARTHENOPI.. meaning we are greeks.. not italians..,because some of them know the truth and their origin.. actually they were greeks who transformed to italians .. the so called " latin" alphabet, the one i am using this very moment to write this comment, is from the Greek city of Chalkida near Athens the ones who founded NEAPOLIS ( NAPOLI ) and brought with them, their alphabet. . many Roman emperors fabricated their family tree back to greece in order to glorify them selfs.. even the musical way of italian speaking is an ancient greek way.. pro-italians and pro-romans were fascinating by the greek way of speaking and use to say.. lets go to listen the people who when they speak sounds like birds singing.. so they copied..this is historically documented ..Romans photocopy absolutely everything from the greeks, .. architecture, religion, food, science, language, art, theatre , medicine, politics, etc.. Rome is a photocopy of Athens.. is an historical indebtedness and should be denoted.. well.. a number of professors, academics and scholars has explained why this never occurred to all televisions of the world.. is about envy and jealousy for that tiny country who has given the rise and birth of the European and thus the western civilisation..what is Renaissance?? after 8 centuries of dark ages, europeans looked back. where? to their teachers.. the Greeks...!!!.. to learn from them.. again..!!. for second time Greeks saved Europe and humanity from the obscurity... which lead to the European enlightenment were the core ideology was that rationality and the scientific truth like a Greek god would cast ignorance to the floor superstition and magic is the enemy reason, rationality, industry and science is the future. nowadays everywhere is all about ..rome this.. rome that.. well ..its not.. greece was the inventor, the original and first in everything.. and you my lady who made this video, if dont know all these, then open a book, read and learn..

jack daniels Although Neapolis was created by Greeks, Rome is a birth by Italics peoples and tribes of shepards and merchants who occupied the area of the woad of Tiberine Island on Tiber river. In its first age Rome was just a village of wooden cabs. Greeks were far more civilized at that age and they never had accepted living in cabs. Then Rome during its growth collected influences from Etruscans and Greeks whose territories started just at 50KM from site in which Rome was born, but Sir, I am sad to disappoint you but there was no Aeneas Hero who came from burning Troy in Italy to found Albalonga, the city of Rea Silvia mother of Romulus and Remus. In the end please, let's remember Greek influence on Roman culture but don't give credit to myths created by Roman Emperors in order to enlighten Rome of glorious ancestors and founders.

The food is delicious, the men are handsome, the ambiance is as seductive as its wines and people and living for the moment is what I get from this show. When I want extensive history, I retract to a lazy afternoon to my collection of National Geographics nd the internet. Now if you all excuse me I am going to fix me up a quick carbonara and some good white wine

By that logic, a documentary about Greece would go on and on about how much Egyptian DNA the Greeks have (about 30%). Or you could just get over yourself. Italy by definition is Italian. Also, your point about Rome being founded by Greeks is just plain wrong: even if if the myth of Aeneas was true (it's not), the Trojans were not Greeks but a different Indo-European race called the Hittites.
