Dreams and Machines RPG (Modiphius) -- Starter Set First Impressions

Well, I was hoping to start November with my planned 'which Lovecraftian horror RPG is right for you?' video, until unfortunately my lighting rig collapsed :) So instead I've been moving some videos I shot pre-Halloween up in the editing queue until I can shoot new videos again!
So, this week I'm giving you my first impressions of the Dreams and Machines RPG Starter Set by Modiphius. Note that I still haven't had the opportunity to play this yet, so I can't give a 'full' review as such, but my initial impression is very positive. The box and components are excellent, the layout and design are beautiful, and in general it's a much more appealing starter box than, say, the Star Trek Adventures one from Modiphius that I keep harping on about ;)
In any case, if you're in the market for a low- to mid-complexity 2d20 game with upbeat post-apocalyptic sci-fi vibes, this may well be for you. The forthcoming GM kit also includes hex-crawling rules, which is always good news in my book! I think this starter set does a nice job of introducing the game, and more importantly provides a nice and simple way to generate personalised characters AND actually includes all the dice you need to play, so on that basis I'm coming away with a great first impression.

I've really enjoyed my time with this starter set. Some folks don't like the cards instead of pre-gen character sheets, but I like that it allows a bit of character-building without any rules overhead, which helps keep things fresh if you run it multiple times. I also like the art style, presentation and the post-post-apocalypse setting. In general I think it's a great intro to the 2d20 system, since it needs only d20s, and isn't attached to a licence (which admittedly can be a plus or minus, depending on the group). Now that the full game is out, it's on my buy list for sure! Just need to save up some money... and shelf space ;)
