When you have the best of the best of musicians & vocals all in one band, you get a symphony painting a picture of the imaginary in your mind, a vibe in your heart& a drive in your spirit. . Since 91’ Thats been the essence of Dream Theater! For me.

This album is criminally underrated. The more I listen to "The Astonishing", the more I get drawn towards it. I love the whole post apocalyptic dystopian vibe on this album (and is primarily based on the same subject matter). People often complain about the duration of the album. In my opinion 2 Hours & 10 Minutes is just a perfect length for a concept which spans across 2 Discs / 4 Vinyl's. There are 9 characters on the album (including the narrator) and to represent them while singing is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING. I think folks who dislike this album for whatever reasons, must revisit and experience the camaraderie these 5 magnificent musicians harbor. This album is a GEM!

Me too, man. Took me too long to listen to it. (To be fair, it was also because it takes a considerable amount of dedication to do it right, since it's so lengthy... but man, is it worth it.)

@@Celso_Luis: I'm glad you love this record. The album clocks precisely 2 Hours & 10 Minutes in length, therefore there are just too many things to grasp. With a few listens one gets the hang of things and it gets easier on the ears. Every minute of this album is elucidating musically if not lyrically!
@Celso_Luis Жыл бұрын
@@BreakingAllIllusions You're absolutely right! After a few listens you start to notice more and more details that make it even better. And I'm specially surprised with how Petrucci was able to build such an interesting world and to make us care so much about the characters, even without the help of the additional context to the story (James knocked it out of the park with his performance as well). I can't remember the last MOVIE that made me feel us much for a character as I did for Arhys, for instance.

On this album, Jordan has shown a lot of restraint and is absolutely brilliant with his piano melodies, reminds me of Benny Anderson's parts from ABBA songs. He has done something for the 1st time since disc 2 of 6DOIT - give superb atmospheres that would drawn in the listener. I hope he has left his wankery days behind, because to me, this is Jordan at his best, a concert pianist at heart. We need more of this Jordan, not 2000s wank boy under the control of Portnoy and Petrucci.

This album is awesome. Comes with a Map of the land the Album's music is made. Pictures of every character. I don't hate the music on the Astonishing but it's the story that is the part that makes it not of a fulfilling experience I think. It's very hokey, Disney-ish and not fully "world-developed". They should've hired a sci-fi fantasy writer to expand the outline and fill the plot holes that JP wrote. Yes I am aware they are adapting a novel. I mean in the narrative sense of the album.

Cool video. But why are there some CGI inserts that are visibly lower resolution than the rest of the video? At 0:07 and 0:31 I can see the aliasing artifacts caused by image resampling. Some of the other CGI inserts look fine. *EDIT:* Oh my God, folks. It's worse than I had realized! In the CGI scene at 0:35, the two drones on top _are cut off as they move out of bounds!_ I have no idea what software they used to produce these sequences, but this can happen in Adobe After Effects if the drone animations were in a nested composition that had a smaller height than the 1920x1080 background image. The drones' position was animated to move above the bounds. This could also happen if the point where the drones get cut off was supposed to be the top of the final video, but an incompetent motion graphics designer moved the enire nested composition down, exposing the upper bound when the drones got too high. This is an absolutely *massive* blunder by the visual effects team. In addition to the other flaws that go against the basic principles of working with digital images, I'm shocked to see incompetence like this.

Jedidiah Bensemann It's hard for me to tell exactly what's going on in that scene, but I think there's a decent chance it has something to do with an adjustment layer. The movement of the shadow matches pretty well with the camera motion, so maybe they used a 3D camera animation across the background image, which had an adjustment layer that was too small. The biggest problem with this scene is the small black bar on the top of the screen. And who knows what series of mistakes caused that. These motion graphics are incredibly unprofessional.

Well if people would buy their work and not download it illegally from the internet their production would be better. So the only people having the right to complain in my opinion are those who really bought their stuff. Everybody else should just stop criticizing.

such a masterpiece. seriously this is art and music at its finest its sad people would rather to justin bieber than true art like this

this is closer to bieber than to real dream theater

Im a jazz guy never listened to these guys and this literally sounds worse than a pokemon esque soundtrack, guess to each their own but this seems like 12 year old music.

no, it's not that bad. many dt fans are disappointed with this album, but this is solid music. though this song is very pop

+Tony Shing Siu Sze In fairness, we all know the song by this point. The video is the new thing to talk about here.

+Tony Shing Siu Sze Exactly! I thought this was AWESOME!
@stevenh83868 жыл бұрын
+Tony Shing Siu Sze It seems that people only make comments if they want to be negative or totally positive. Those in the former category can't find anything wrong with the 'music', because it's f#%king amazing, so they make comments about the video instead.
