Awesome guide! All of these tips are spot on. My biggest tip for free to play players is to make sure you re-roll for the best starting characters you can. As long as you start out with two 5 star characters / an extra 4.5 star character you will definitely feel a lot better off when starting your team. However, as a free to play player I highly recommend that you only spend your gems when you are 100% sure that you want to pull for that banner. Using myself as an example, I had to unlock the arena by starting the Bestower of Wealth quest line in order to reach the point of having just under 10,000 gems to spend (It took me 6000 FTP gems to get the pity roll for the Nier Collab). Around 2500 of those gems were earned through easy fights in the Victors Hollow Arena, but I was extremely lucky with my Nier Collab pulls so the difficulty might be higher for other players excluding the 1500 gems gained from the easy pre-liminary arena fights.

I won't lie, a lot of my interest in the game actually dried up listening to this. Not that it's your fault, this was an excellent guide that answered a lot I was curious about! But hearing the massive emphasis placed on getting The Right Characters and on grinding out dailies and materials sounds almost completely at odds with the massive freedom and emphasis on strategy over grind which made me love OT1/2. I'll still give it a shot, lord knows there just are not many actually good games available to fill breaks on mobile, but thank you for - maybe unintentionally - setting my expectations.

Very nice video! I just thought I'd mention that the "pity route" of pulling on a banner only if you have enough to spark doesn't mean dumping the stash mindlessly: if the featured unit shows up early it's time to stop and save for next. I.e., start pulling only if you can spark, but stop early if you get lucky and use the spark as a last resort. We did some math and found optimal pulling strategies for some objectives (under specific assumptions ofc): 1 - Maximize the number of unique on-banner characters: only pull if you can pity. Stop pulling once the char is pulled. 2 - Maximize the number of total 5* with low variance: only pull if you can pity. Stop pulling once the char is pulled; continue ONLY 1x more and ONLY if the next step gives a guaranteed 5*. 3 - Maximize the number of total 5* with high variance: always pull the discounted step 1. Go to pity if you have enough rubies and stop pulling once the char is pulled; continue ONLY if the next step gives a guaranteed 5* (1x more) Strategies 1 and 2 have low variance but they are "boring" in the sense that they entail skipping most banners. Strategy 3 has about the same average but double the risk; however, it is less "boring" since one is always pulling. The sheer number of extra pulls somehow compensates the lack of guaranteed 5* at the cost of twice the variance (risk).

Thanks for this video! I've had this game installed for a few months and never opened it until I saw the neir automata Collab. Been loving octopath two so far and I figured a gotcha game involving octopath and Nier is something I should check out. This is all great advice and even though I didn't get the best dancer pull or any 5* in my first three 10 pulls, I got A2, 2B and 9S for only $5 so I'm going to stick with it. Crazy to hear that people put so much time into this game even with no multiplayer! Might be my new game considering how much I enjoyed the main series games.

I wish someone would explain the guide section because it doesn't make sense. There are a lot of guide options in there. Which one are we suppose to use? Novice task, Union of Memories, Union of Chosen, chance encounters in gold and silver, sacred guidance. I've been playing over a week and I still have 4 characters. Completing traveler quests doesn't give me any new toons.

What do you recommend taking with Nier fragment exchange; A4 A2 or A0 B2? I care about long term, currently have Kouren, Fiora, Lionel and only Shelby/A2 for axe coverage.

Long term, I'd have to say A2's awaken 4 accessory because it will see use in probably every fight til the end of time as a stat stick or debuff extender, as it applies to ultimates as well. 2B does fall off as warriors like Richard enter the pool this summer, so it's worth skipping over her if you are looking towards the long term.

I started during nier collab and wish this video guide was available when I started. I rerolled until I got A2 and 2B. My starter character sofia seems limited since she can only use ice techniques sadly. Sadly I made "mistakes" like putting speed into A2 and Therion....

Of course! They are bonuses always. Awakenings on dps units are only like a ~15% damage increase, and u10 is to help enable specific strategies. Most of the time, a stable clear of a fight isn't enabled by those factors, its speed clears or day 1 pushes that are enabled by the extra dmg/utility.

I'm a f2p player but I've been trying to reroll for the Lynette/Viola combo. On one device I got Lynette as my starter and pulled Sofia (5 star) from the anniversary banner. On another device I got Viola as my starter and pulled Scarecrow (5 star) and Primrose (5 star) from the anniversary banner. Should I keep rerolling? Or just start using one of the two accounts...

Prob should give it a few more goes at lynette + strong dps, but the lynette sofia account will be fine for just going ahead if you are tired of rerolling.

I think your account sounds great already, the NieR girls are good, but they aren't the end all be all, many strong units are coming our way this summer, so unless you are a die hard nier fan, I'd just keep going as is. In terms of how to get rubies, just log in daily, do as much of every arena tourney you can cuz the prelims are full of gems, and try some of the lv 100 npcs. They give 200 rubies each on your first clear, and some of the older ones are very easy in current origin gear.

A quick simplified guide: Nameless Town dailies give you items you can trade in for memory fragments. You basically use these to upgrade your nameless town and to buy gold guidestones everyweek. Historical fragments you get from BT fights, trading in hunt accs, and trading in silver class up cookies. You will use these later on to buy 4 star a4 upgrades, so save up. Wisdom nuts are used to help you buy weekly ult upgrading materials. Everything else goes in line with the thing you get them from. Arena refights give you that character's acc + gold guidestones. Gacha fragments are used to buy pity stones. Shards are used to make their color of guidestone. Master refights give you accessories for their class, and you can break down lv1/2 accs to trade in for the other 2 classes.

That is false. The free 10-pull is available to everyone as long as the collab is active (until early April 5th). I have personally done a few re-rolls for fun and can confirm this, lol :)

how important dupes? its so hard to reroll much harder than most gachas (like Genshin tier hard reroll) i got A2+2B+9S but NO dupes for rerolling 3days.

Dupes aren't super important. Awaken 1 on a DPS is like 12% extra damage. The main draw to awakenings is the a4 accessories. But that's honestly some whale only stuff, and wouldn't worry about it too much.

Since those are both guaranteed units, I would say reroll and try to add some lucky pulled 5 stars your start, even if just one more.

How did you begin a battle with 3 BP?

On character skill boards one of the tiles gives you bonus BP at the start of battle, so when leveling a 5 star character is normal practice to rush all the skills and BP tiles first, the final BP tile unlocks at 90.

I use both in endgame quite a bit. Lynette sees more wide use, but primrose is the main reason why two of the level 100 npcs are killable.

Great guide for returning players to the game and new players as well. I died in the trenches with my F2P gems on the Nier Collab but that's ok. lol I got so many blind boy that it's not even funny. Also, I pulled a 5* dancer (the harlequin) guy. I'm guessing he's nowhere as good as Lynette. Who is the best nuker out of the 4* units? (If you don't mind me asking.

Haha 9S strikes again, I'm sorry to hear that. The 4 stars that I made use of the most when my roster was still small are Sigrid & Trish (Warriors), Heinz (Scholar), Wingate (Thief), and Ramona (Cleric), Rodion (Apothecary), and then Camilla & Lucetta (Hunters). And then of course the backliners like Barrad, Laura, Menno, Eunice.

Third way of spending gems... Roll on the units you find cute. For Hasumi and swimsuit Fiore this way 😊 PS: I spent money on Nier for the waifus. Always saving money for the waifus.
