In contrast, the scale/ mode similar to Lydian (at least as far as notes go) in Indian classical music is called Yaman Kalyan or Aiman is the very first scale taught by most teachers and would be commonly used by musicians to start their performances and even use in devotional music.

I discovered a nice trick for playing over Lydian. Exclude the 7th note of the Major scale, or the #4 of Lydian in other words to get a clean pure run of notes only introducing the #4 back and bending it to the 5th for resolution.

Bend the g string and keep your left pinky on the high e while plucking the g string, that way instead of just tapping the g string you can hit that REALLY high note on the high e instead. It sounds like you're hitting a pinch harmonic with a 24 fret. Lol pretty cool. Takes practice to be able to relax enough to press on the high e enough when also bending the g string at the same time but I got it finally down pretty decent.

I have just been learning this one now in your lessons package which is awesome. I came back to KZbin to comment also because lstening to and learning this lick hit some nostalgia neurons in my brain and brought me way back to the late 80's. I think that one of my favorite songs that I now know to be in lydian is the intro to a song called "The Ballad" By Testament which everyone should give a listen to if they liked this lesson. I learned that intro by tab, ear and memorization but now I know how to actually play the scale/mode it's based in. Thanks Tyler.

What's a mode? How do chords tie in to modes? How do modes tie in to scales and keys? Are modes the same as scales? Are major and minor scales modes themselves?
@mothafuckinanarchist53925 жыл бұрын
A mode is the way a combination of noted is played. In modal jazz and several other kinds of music, specific modes correspond with chords. For instance, the lydian scale is often used on a, Majord 7 chord with a #11. It should be added that these modes are not cut and dry, what is and is not acceptable is vague.
@mothafuckinanarchist53925 жыл бұрын
Major and minor are types of modes, for instance A minor and C major are different modes made up of the same scale. F lydian, G mixolydian, etc are all different modes of these scales as well.
