At a rough estimate it'd take 20ish seconds to fall a kilometer. (Wikipedia says terminal velocity is 54 m/sec, it takes 3 seconds to reach 50% of terminal velocity, 8 seconds to reach 90%, and at 54 m/sec you'd traverse a kilometer in 18.5 seconds.) Slo-Mo would turn those 20 seconds into 2000 seconds, or about 33 minutes. I always wonder what Ma Ma is thinking during that half-hour fall. Does Slo-Mo make the user feel euphoric? (Some of them certainly look it.) Was she blissed out? In awe of the beauty of the experience? Once the inevitability of her coming death sank in, did she find peace and acceptance? Was she terrified? How intense was the pain of her bullet wound compared to everything else she was feeling? Half-an-hour is enough time to go through a whole cycle of emotions. Maybe some or all of the above?

Red Hood I'm no expert on the human brain, or the slow mo drug but, I believe in order for you to perceive things in slow motion your brain must be running at hyper capacity, people who survive car crashes and other such traumas often describe the experience as being in slow motion, during daily operation, our brains only tend to use enough "logic" to guide us down the paths we're walking/driving...It's thought that this is the left side of your brain which is analytical and logical, but when a car crash occurs the right side "activates" for lack of a better word and works in union with the left hemisphere (Right side is creative/imaginative) perhaps it does this to give you that short spell of "slow mo" to allow you enough time to think of a way to save yourself from death?? I think the point of it is yes, likely it'd be very possible to think at superspeed, so long as you can focus with an intense adrenaline rush
@sarcasticstartrek77197 жыл бұрын
You're about right. In total freefall it'd be 14 seconds but it doesn't take into account terminal velocity. I'd say yes 20-22 seconds.

One might ask himself "What was Ma-ma thinking about in his final moments?". I personally think that she wasn't. A broken woman. A broken person. She lived without purpose, ruled simply because it was something to do. Deep down inside she was already dead. When Dredd threw her out the window I bet her last thought was "Finally", then it was all feelings. Nothing but slow-mo induced euphoria and a feeling of flight as she was free falling toward the first floor. She was finally free.

Something incredibly beautiful about this scene, not for the visuals but the idea of two different perspectives happening simultaneously. For her, it feels like heavenly death minutes passing towards imminent demise, time is slow for her but for Dredd shes flying down to splatter without a seconds thought, or maybe he knows it will take minutes in her mind to fall, making it torturous to reflect on your fate for that long when there's nothing you can do about it. You're trapped.

The addictive or harmful qualities of slo-mo (if any) are never really discussed. It might just be that people want it so badly because - as you said - it offers a temporary escape from the horrible world they're living in. But whether or not the drug itself is benign, the Ma-Ma Clan are monopolizing the sale of it and torturing/murdering anyone who cuts in on their territory or gets in the way of their business. So from that point of view, it's causing a lot of harm.

This was before Lena Headey became Lily Collins' mother in "The Mortal Instruments", am I correct? Her death scene in "Dredd" is indeed beautifully choreographed! Also, it's amazing, how Lena could change from crazed drug lord to heroic warrior lady just like that!

Rapunzel AppleTon Not much of a change in you aske me. I thought Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was juvenile crap! What was an actor with the caliber of Jonathon Rhys Meyers thinking starring in this shitty film? Was he on another one of his drug binges when he signed on to this low budget cr#p?

El Pavor Gary I do not agree at all. She(Heady) is a good actress, good at playing villains, but I do not feel she underrated.
