Mark Engles has one of the most distinctive guitar styles I've ever heard. His chord voicings and clean riffing are so creative.

First album isn’t great, their final one was garbage but the ones in between were cracking.

But honestly, this is one of my fav songs on the album. The break where the guitarist is strumming the same chord and when the snare kicks in gets me every time. It’s a really strange beat going on with something going on with weird time. Appreciate the journey and moods it takes to get back to the chorus. Sometimes it’s easier to just keep moving on when writing and not even transition back to a previous hook. The song “same ol’ road” is probably the song they would have expected to be some sort of radio or single I would imagine. It’s a great song. I’d imagine you’d like that more. I do love sanzen, but I also love same ol road, of the room, triangle...and really the whole thing. Like you guys said it’s an album that benefits from a front to back listen with all the interlude songs in between. Can not believe I can’t get this on streaming services.

Agree with everything you said. I could already hear the rest of that first Brushstroke interlude and the beginning of Δ. It’s a familiar lucid dream this album. One of the best engineered records of the 2000s I’d wager. It has an awesome sounding CD & SACD release with stereo and surround sound mixes. You can get Dredg’s albums on streaming service Qobuz, btw.

I’ve been dying in anticipation for their next album! I freaked out when I first read they were working on a new album. Dino is a god damn beast!! Also love your channel, just found you by searching for symphony X! Love that band/album as well. Thanks for the content!

Love that you guys are featuring Dredg! I saw them open up for Incubus in 2001 and this album in particular accompanied me through college and after. I am now going to look for the vinyl. Thank you.

You guys should check out Sparks The Rescue, they're kind of an emoish punk band from Maine. No longer together but damn they made some good stuff. "Nurse, Nurse" "Saco Boys Have No Class" few other ones.

Wait. You guys reference dredg plenty. How is it you don’t know this song? El cielo is an amazing album. Possibly my fav of theirs next to pariah. It’s the prog elements that make this album much more interesting to me than their others.

c luyk structure of El Cielo + accessibility of CWA = PP&tD at least to me. CWA & songs like Ode to the Sun hooked me as a teenager, but now I can really appreciate El Cielo.
