Good video Jack. I especially liked the film of your driving through Amarillo which is where I live. One thing though, the feedlot you showed is actually outside of Amarillo and further to the west. Not only that, but if you've ever driven on US 60 between Canyon and Clovis, NM then you know that there are a couple places much worse. Even so, the folks here in Amarillo are real friendly and there are plenty of truck stops in town right on I-40 if you ever have the need. In any case, I have watched all of your videos and enjoy each and every one. Keep up the good work!

Nice shot of BNSF rolling along side of you. I retired from there back in 1998. I was a train dispatcher for many years. That line is mostly all double track and they call it the Transcon. They have a train that hauls a lot of UPS and a lot of the freight is UPS Air. But it goes on one of the most famous hot UPS & US Mail the 199 train. Chgo to LA and it runs almost on a psgr train schedule however the travel time is longer ad Amtrak can run 90 MPH on a lot of the route but freight trains is limited to 70 MPH. That is back when I was working. I heard some of the hot freight trains are running 79 MPH in some locations today. Thanks for sharing your videos.

Jack, as a Volvo fleet operator in my previous life, ask the dealer to look if the part has been superseded ( it doesn't always show on the Volvo Impact ( parts system) that a part has been superseded. We also found sometimes that getting the dealer to look in the construction vehicle division they would find the part required. There is a lot of commonality between the truck and construction vehicles especially on engine and gearbox transmission. Good luck .

Well, one idea is to empty the tank with drilling a hole there in the lowest corner/end of it - not easy to get it totally dry "on the roadside".... Then, a business idea for repair shop could be to have a spare fuel tank so they could change it on the fly and weld the bad one together when work schedule allows, then use it again as a spare... They actually seem much like another so there might be one size fits all or most of the trucks... Ok, I'm no specialist in any way... But, time is money for everybody. Thanks for the great movie!
@alicegilbertracing5 жыл бұрын
Just wondering if a spot of JB weld might have kept the fuel leak closed for a while....
@Gus24977 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, the reason you are leaking fuel even after emptying the tank is because a little bit of the fuel the injection pump does not use gets sent back to the tank(s) via a separate fuel line. It does it to keep the injection pump cooler.

Jack I use that stretch of I-20 from Longview to Shreveport at least once a week to friends or go to the VA. Its horrible. But believe it or not, it's better than it use to be. Luckily I turn off on the last exit before crossing the Red River. I shuttle trailers for Averitt From Shreveport to Dallas, some time's to Abilene and back all the time. I scale out at the TA all the time. The Averitt yard is just a couple blocks from that TA same side of the highway. That little truck you mentioned is for smaller mobile homes that's popular in that area.

I love "Stand by Me". When my daughter wss in high school Nestle was selling baby formula in Africa, telling the mothers it was better for the babies. Of course, it cost money after the samples given and clean water is a luxury in most of Africa. So the babies died of diarrhea or malnutrition because the formula was mixed with too much water to stretch it out. There was a picture of a dying baby on the freezer and one on the refrigerator to remind me not to buy Nestle products. I am not a fan of Nestle and their water tastes like it came out of a spigot in Odessa, TX. The Ozarka water is from Big Spring, TX, not the Ozarks.That mattress tip was a great one for truckers to avoid s hazmat team to a spill site.

Was out in the Sinia desert Egypt waddy driving in a group of Chevy Blazers, Land Rovers and an Austin car!!!! The guy in the car hit a rock and tore a hole in his engine sump. Someone produced a bar of soap and worked that into the tear. I owed the car through the Suez tunnel only because we didn't want him breaking down in there. He got back to Cairo safe and sound, when I saw him two weeks later he was still driving around with the soap plug. Don't know if soap would work with diesel but its worth a try. Keep trucking BS

I had a Chevy Malibu when I lived in SD, and. When I stopped at TA to fill up it leaked dexo coolant all over the place. There was no place in Barstow who would help replace the water pump, it was closed for the weekend and if it was open they were only truck repair shops. We had to keep goin on to Las Vegas (with the heat blasting to keep it from overheating) and I dropped it off at a Hyundai repair shop. Sadly had to use my gambling money to repair my car, but I put a $5 in a 25 cent slot and won $350 so that was good

I've operated Vovlo trucks here in the UK for years and here the back up service is excellent. Volvo service in the USA seems to suck. Here in the UK volvo have brilliant back up and if you're broken down they usually get you going real quick. They are pretty expensive though.

you could get a stainless or high pressure hose made by a company that makes them. we use to have a company that would come out to a job site and make new hoses up for our machines like a Bob cat that would blow a hydraulic hose. you would probably never have that problem again. let Volvo pound sand. just get one made up.
@iivaridark68507 жыл бұрын
Yes, just take the original to a hydraulic hose/tool shop they might do a proper one that lasts the rest of your career from high quality materials - they could easily make it a tad shorter or longer if need be, too.
@rickjohnson16327 жыл бұрын
As a friend of mine from the UK always says " easy peesy "
@leebarnes6557 жыл бұрын
The molded in curve can't be done with hydraulic hose though and it's not necessary to go overboard that far. It's already fixed is what I'm getting at. Volvo can't keep them in stock because the demand for that hose made of crap in the first place is of the charts. We already knows what happens to that Volvo hose so why ask for a second punch in the face? Jack's only error was in not getting two, one for the fix and the second for the road just in case. Molded heater hoses are not rocket surgery.
@rickjohnson16327 жыл бұрын
Lee Barnes my examples of hoses that could be used as a alternative was a bad choice of words. I knew I would probably get a negative response , oh well my bad. however , as you correctly stated the molded hose isn't rocket science . I have been driving big trucks and have been standing at parts counters for big trucks for over 25 years . I can assure you if push came to shove I would come up with a alternative remedy for that heater hose , keeping it as simple as possible but making sure I would not have to be bothered with it again. loosing coolants on a semi is never fun or cheap. actually it sucks. I'm sure there is a simple fix other than Volvo. perhaps at a hose service. in any event, I understand your argument.

why fuel gauge say empty? are semi trucks like the pickup trucks that have 2 tanks the gauge switches from tank to tank when you flip the switch. do you switch tanks manually is what I'm tryen to say?

TJB yes most trucks have 2 tanks. only 1 of them has a gauge. there is a valve that is supposed to keep the fuel equal in both tanks. sometimes the valve goes bad and stops pumping fuel to the other tank that's when the gauge will give you a false reading. or the valve will stick open and pump too much fuel to the other tank, which will overflow out on the ground. I have had that happen a couple times.....
