To answer your questions Matt, Space Marines are super durable. It's not too much of a stretch for your character to take the beatings he does. An adult Ork can take on a space marine in melee combat, however at range they're usually helpless because Ork accuracy is abysmal, which they make up for by just having more manpower to throw lead around. The smaller humans in the green armor are regular humans, the Imperial Guard. Space Marines I guess would be lawful neutral? They're extremely hostile to any non-human races. These tendencies do vary from chapter to chapter however. Chapters are different schools of the space marines, with different specializations of combat. An example of this would be that your character is a Space Marine from the Ultramarines chapter, which is a jack of all trades chapter, while the Blood Angels specialize in close combat using special marines that intentionally succumb to a BLOOD RAGE. The reason why heads often explode when you fire your bolter is because bolters use explosive tipped ammunition of a massive caliber in comparison to modern weaponry, however bolters still wouldn't be enough to gib an entire body of an ork usually. The small orks you see are called Gretchin, they are the slave caste of orks, often used for cannon fodder or combat of a more subtle nature that Orkz aren't capable of.

Ork guns won't stop firing until the orks operating them realize that they're out of ammo. Ork planes can stay in the air for days, but will plummet from the sky the moment the ork flying them checks his fuel gauge. Hell, they think "purple iz sneaky", so any ork painted purple becomes invisible. If orks weren't dumb as bricks, and were smart enough to realize the affects their mere beliefs had on reality, then they would easily be the most terrifying force in 40K.

As for your question about "goody two shoes space marines", the awnser is kinda yes. While no marine would run from service, due to an integral part of their training revolving around a few hundred sessions of mental indocrination a la "A clockwork Orange" where they are thaught the ideals of their chapter (Space Marine group they belong to) and their original personality is pretty much wiped clean (they still retain some memory of their past, but have little attachment to it). However, some Chapters are much more compassionate to imperial citizens than others, differentianting from the normal space marine doctrate of "Orbital Bombardment in a massive populated city is a perfectly reasonable preemptive strike" Examples would be the Lamenters and Salamanders, which while still having a complete murder-boner for aliens and chaos, actually go out of their way to save and limit civillian casualties in the battlefield, sometimes even jeopardizing the entire operation if they deem the cost too great.

Space Marines are really hard to kill, both in and out of their armor, and they're actually quite a bit faster than normal humans, even in full armor. The big limiter on their manpower is that there aren't a lot of them. For every individual space marine the Imperium can can field, they have hundreds of normal human guardsmen. You've also got the issue that a lot of the space marine chapters aren't that cooperative. They're often more loyal to the Imperium as a concept than they are to its current command structure, and they're very independent, not having much in the way of a higher authority that they have to answer to, meaning they'll usually do what they think is best regardless of any orders that came from outside their chapter.

Space Marines are remarkably resilient and terrifyingly fast for their size and bulkiness. You'd think a guy clad in several inches of solid ceramite armour the size and shape of a hummer would move like it, but Marines are well known for wearing their armour like a second skin. Their naturally tough bodies and potent armour can tank a ton of shots, and they can actively dodge the rest. And the entire Imperium is pretty firmly in the Lawful Evil camp, populated and run exclusively by Ultra-Zealot Catholic Space Nazis. Though individual members are known for being a little less awful and even downright heroic. I have a feeling that you'd enjoy the Necrons.....

Warhammer 40k has such amazing potential for storytelling in a video game, but since the focus of the company who made it (Games Workshop) is more on models and books, I can’t blame them for never going the extra mile with their game lineup. Still, the Emperor allows us to imagine a world with a WH40k shooter made by Respawn Entertainment, or maybe an open-world action-adventure-shooter by CD Projekt Red or the studio that made Kingdoms of Amalur. I don't think GW like the idea of EA, Activision or even one of the bigger Japanese publishers getting anywhere near the Space Marine or 40K intellectual property. I don't know why the only 40k games we can get are weird RTS/ Turn base hybrids but I dream for the the day of some sort of RPG-ish game in the 40K universe. The 40K universe is just Bad-Ass as f#@! .

if you're looking for something RPG-ish, check out Dawn of War 2. the sp campaign is literally an rpg/rts hybrid with tons of customisability for your little blood raven squad.

Space Marines are, taken literally, a 13 year old's idea of the ultimate warrior. Which is great. They're genetically engineered, they have power armor, they have full-auto RPG machine guns, they have bling for days etc. Titus is a Captain too which means he gets all the fun stuff like recharging shields. Also everytime you teleport you have a chance of ending up in hell. Whoops. Dawn of War 1, Dawn of War 2 and its expansions do hold up. 2 and its expansions work fine on Steam.

If you're interested, look up the Legion of the Damned Space Mrines. Similar to Ultramarines but decked out in Punisher gear and permanently on fire.

Matt, the Care-Bear Marine you're thinking of is Vulkan, the first Marine of the Salamander Chapter. Soot-black skin, firey red eyes, pyromania, but an intense love for humanity, as well as a master of giving back-crushing hugs. He fights with flamethrowers and giant red-hot hammers, and can come back to life even if he's been atomized. He also bodies anyone who would dare hurt civilians.

Also yes, Tech-priests are rad. They believe that technology is holy, metal is the True Flesh, and that the Emperor transcended to become the Omnissiah. They do frown on innovation and invention, though, as that is HERESY.

Probably a bunch of answers already, but Space Marines can take a tremendous amount of small arms fire. Just how much tends to depend on the writer, much like super heroes. They are not however slow, one of their implants bonds them to their power armor so it acts like an extension of their body. Though Terminators, the heav(ier) armored version are slow, as well as some Chaos Marines like Plague Marines (horribly bloated diseased monstrosities) and Rubric Marines (haunted suits of power armor employed by fucking sorcerers) are however slow and (further) implacable.

To answer your question about how tough space marines are, they're on the upper end of how tough a common troop can be in 40k. They can go down to massed conventional small arms fire, but taking them down reliably tends to involve weaponry also used against light vehicles.
@gomer1778095 жыл бұрын
In the books, all the cool space marines kept their helmets on. They sometimes lose their helmets due to heavy battle damage, but they get a new one as soon as possible. You know, protect brain. They just have Space Marine without helmets in the games and movies so you have a recognizable character instead of a generic helmet. As for Space Marines able to take bullets, their power armour is very resistant. Made of shaped Adamantium and Plasteel with a Ceramite ablative layer. Some of the stronger body armour we use today incorporates Ceramic plates in some shape or form. But they can only take 1 bullet, maybe 2 if you are really lucky, due to how they shatter with that much force. Often times, the only way a space marine is killed is by attacking between the plates to the under layer of armour. Or their armour being shredded by overwhelming firepower.

Despite Matt's loose knowledge of 40k I desperately want to see him play through Space Marine! It was my introduction and, I'm sure many other's to the games and I had a killer time watching battle brother Captain McMuscles, play through it!

16:49 Cos bolters fire grenades. Not bullets, miniature rocket-propelled, explosive rounds. The kind of weapon + ammo that would snap a normal humans arm if you fired it.

05:59 In regards to the question about nice space marines, most of them are various levels of bastard (even the good guys) and they don't really care for human beings given how much stronger they are. Exceptions I can think of would be the Crimson Fists + the Salamanders Chapters, who actually prioritize things like evacuation. Then you have Chapter's like the Flesh Tearers who just eat people.

I hate the fact that we could only play UltraSmurfs in the base game, but since Captain Titus is the most tolerable Ultramarine ever and he's voiced by Mark Strong, I'll give him a pass.

On general space marine questions: The Ultramarines are pretty much the John Cena of the Space Marine Chapters, known for being really sticks in the muds and being The Best out there. That being said, Titus is a good character because he breaks the mold. There are nicer marine chapters like the White Consuls and Salamanders, the Space Wolves can be counted in there in a viking hard drinking sort of way.

I'm not too familiar with the Warhammer lore, but I absolutely loved this game. It was simple gory fun. One of the few games I played through multiple times on multiple consoles. I rented it on PS3 when it first came out and beat it, than years later I bought it on sale for the 360 and beat it again. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel they announced for PS5!
@MyRYNOrunsHot5 жыл бұрын
13:59 Pretty much. Space Marines are more quality over quantity, and the Imperial Guard strategy mostly boils down to attrition + relying on their heavy tanks etc, after loosing 1000,000+ men. As for what makes the Space Marines different, they've got 2 hearts, three lungs, they don't need to sleep, they have acidic spit, they can see in the dark, are resistant to UV rays, have a fused front rib cage turning it into a bullet proof plate, have another organ that links their nervous system to their armour, and can eat people to gain their memories.
@laukosthegoblin61685 жыл бұрын
Okay so, to answer your questions as they came. Space Marines are incredibly hard to kill not only due to their biology (they have multiples of each organ, including two hearts and three lungs, as well as bones that are bulletproof and the ribs are fused together into a bulletproof plate of bone) but also their armour, which can shrug off large amounts of ranged fire and augment their strength massively (in lore, they can take fire from autocannons and ignore it). As he is a captain, the main character in the videogame has a forcefield generating device which makes him even harder to kill, as some shots will simply disintegrate before they hit him. Space Marines are also very fast when needed, in a melee fight they can move so fast that lesser mortals cannot see their moves. In one of the novels a Space Wolf (a faction of space marines based on Vikings) moved so fast that his target didn't even have a chance to blink before his head was lopped clean off. The bioligical and cybernetic augmentations performed on them grant them a great series of abilities, including spitting acid and being able to consume the flesh of an enemy to gain their knowledge. That is not to say they're invincible, Space Marines can be killed, either overwhelmed by masses of foes or killed by something stronger than them. Space Marines (and Imperials in general) are not good guys at all, they are a theocratic galaxy-spanning empire which has put entire species to death solely for the crime of not being human, a soldier caught giving aid to the enemy is punished by 'death via starvation' and the Imperial Commissars are officers in their armies whose job it is to maintain morale on the battlefield...by shooting any soldiers who display cowardice as 'motivation' to their friends. Imperials are superstitious of technology, believing that it is alive and an extension of the 'machine god', the punishment for illegal modification of technology is to be lobotomized and used as a cyborg slave lifting crates or pulling levers for the rest of your unnatural life. Women most certainly do exist in 40k, and are just as capable as the men, though there are NO female space marines (the process is not compatible with them) there is an entire army of power armour wearing battle nuns obsessed with burning the enemy with flamethrowers, they're called the Adepta Sororitas AKA Sisters of Battle. Space Marines are humans taken in childhood and augmented and trained over the course of many years into genetically and cybernetically modified super-warriors, they're not human anymore, but are looked up to as 'the angels of death' by humanity itself. That one Ork exploded because the gun you're using is a Bolter, a .75 calibre fully automatic rocket launcher, its munitions pierce the targets flesh and armour before detonating inside of them, causing as much damage as possible. Some commanders are known to rise from the grave! Lord Solar Macharius was practically invincible due to his status as a living saint, and Commissar Sebastian Yarrick got his arm ripped off by an Ork, but then proceeded to kill the Ork and RIP ITS FUCKING ARM OFF himself and hold it above his head as a trophy, only then did he permit himself to fall unconscious. Now he uses that very Ork's cybernetic arm as his own prosthetic limb. Tech Priests are my favourite thing in Warhammer 40k. They're cybernetically modified engineers who worship technology as a god. Wearing badass robes, swinging censers that smell of machine oil around as they maintain and build technology, they're also huge fucking badasses because of their high quality cybernetics and extra limbs, some of their augmentations are strong enough to LIFT tanks, and rip a Space Marines arms off at the shoulder. It would indeed go nowhere, Space Marines are sterile and have no interest in sex or romance both biologically and culturally (no urges and too busy praising the emperor and killing orks to bother), though their 'equipment' is to scale with the rest of their body according to one novel, which also explains why they don't sex much, too big. HOWEVER, there is one Space Wolf guy called Lukas the Trickster, and there's a tribe of people on his home planet and all the kids look suspiciously like him. The Imperials have an obsession with skulls due to their sheer fatalism as well as the fact that they worship a skeleton on a throne, they even have devices called Servo Skull's, which are human skulls fitted with anti-grav devices and mechanical parts allowing them to float around and do shit like carry books, hold flashlights, fix machines and do what their owner says, its seen as a great honour to be made into a Servo Skull. No delicious candy bars sadly, Space Marines require a lot of food, so they eat specially designed foods like 'amino porridge' and 'Trygliceride Gel' which is full of nutrients to support their frames, though they can eat anything (their stomachs can digest pretty much anything), the Space Wolves prefer to have great feasts, consuming entire animals and tables worth of food in addition to a special booze called Fenrisian Ale (or Mjod), normally Space Marines cannot get drunk as their body augmentations break the alcohol down, Mjod basically shuts their liver off, allowing them to get drunk but only as long as they continue to drink it, its lethal for humans to drink. That said, Space Marines are known to enjoy food and drink when the situation allows. Their armour also 'recycles' waste. Ultramarines are from a bunch of planets, chiefly one called 'Macragge', different Space Marine chapters come from different planets, some don't even have a planet of their own, sticking to starships and giant space stations instead. A new kind of Space Marine called 'Primaris' Space Marines was recently created by Archmagos Belisarius Cawl, not only are they stronger than normal Astartes, but bigger too. Fun fact, there's a gigantic fucking belltower on Terra (Aka Earth) which is rung when the Imperium's greatest heroes are killed or otherwise lost. The bell is so massive and loud that its attendants have to hide in a bunker when it rings or their heads will explode.
