I've been doing keto and IF for four months, and I've lost close to 30 pounds. I walk 2+ miles every morning. I had blood tests this week and my physician went into panic mode and wanted to put me on statins immediately, solely based on my LDL, and disregarding that my TG went down 44 points. This is exactly the video I needed to see this week!

Love this explanation, Dr. Berg. You have a gift for stating things simply, so the layman can understand. I have high LDL, but my Triglycerides and HDL are at perfect levels. So, your explanation about the so-called BAD cholesterol makes me feel great, reassuring me that my IF and Keto plan is working for me. Thank you once again!!

I didn't know there were two kinds of LDL. I've been searching everywhere for reasons why my triglycerides would be super low while my LDL is high. This has been educational and interesting.

You divide your TG by 5 if measured in mg/dl or by 2.2 if measured in mmdl/l if more than 30mg/dl or more than 2.2 mmol/L these levels then you have high VLDL and you need to follow the advice given by Dr Berg. ( Info from mayo Clinic)

Hi Dr Berg.. Been following your advice... Even talked to three heart specialists about if cholesterol and calcium are bandaids for the blood vessels.. They said yes.. Off Lipitor 20 milligrams a day and blood pressure tables now for a year now.. Change my diet .. eat one meal a day and exercise...!!! My weight was 89 kilograms and now I weight is 73 kilograms. Guess what..!!!! Blood pressure normal now and cholesterol 3.1... Never felt better.. Doctors can't believe the turn around with out the drugs...!! Said to me you need to stay on them..!!! I proved to them that It is possible but you have to change your eating habits.. And can live on one meal a day... I drink Braggs Apple cider vinegar..( With the mother ) first thing in the morning and last thing at night.. You know what your talking about... Cheers Tony.

According to my blood test mid last year my total cholesterol was 8.0. Freaking high according to my doctor and tested when I had some pain in the upper right side. I had an ultrasound and via this detected a bit of fatty liver that was sitting around my gall bladder but no gall stones. Liver enzymes slightly elevated but within the so called normal range. Yes, I was still a bit overweight but prior to my rare trip to my local GP had lost 20kgs (44 pounds) within 6 months upon adopting a whole food plant based eating plan primarily high nutrient foods and starches with nuts and seeds and coconut oil. GP referred me to see a dietician with a view to being put on statins drugs. I told the doctor there is a family history of high cholesterol and still the matriarch is alive and kicking. BTW my Oma turned 96 two weeks ago with consistently similarly high cholesterol reading since blood test incorporated it into a full blood test. She still eats very well with lots of (in this order) veges, fruits, small portioned meat/fish and saturated fats.

Amazingly helpful and so spot on for what I wanted to know. My LDL was high (a little over 130), but my HDL was "very" high. From this video, I learned to look at the HDL & triglycerides (low for me) and can assume my LDL is likely more Type A. Thank you Dr. Berg, my doctor called me today to say she wanted to start me on a medication because my cholesterol is high. I thought it was because I’ve been intermittently fasting, but I now believe my blood is normal. My cholesterol jumped to 250 from 201, triglyceride dropped to 41 from 83, HDL is 78 from 75, and my LDL jumped to 170 from 122. I thought I was going to have a heart attack or stroke soon, but now I feel better. I work out 5 days a week in the gym, intermittent fast 18/6 everyday, lost 25 lbs. to 148 lbs at 5’5”, and eat mostly Keto sporadically, so I felt healthy. Thank you Dr. Berg. The 4 video series on HDL/LDL Cholesterol was awesome and insightful. I am on a Keto Diet and IF since Nov 2018, and came down from 207lb and over 40% body fat to 163lb and 28.9% body fat plus extra 5lb of lean muscle. I just had my Apolipoprotein B-100 tested and I was told that LDL is being a problem and should stay away from Saturated Fats due to "likelihood" of heart disease. In other words, I was implicitly told to stop the Keto Diet, even though it is giving me amazing results and making feel great. Anyway, your video really clarified the real purpose of LDL and it is importance, and I am confident in sticking to my guns on the Keto diet and continuing to achieve amazing results. Thank you

DEAR DR. BERG..i am in awe at the clarity and kind of information you are sharing with us here. I've been diagnosed with high ldl and better than normal hdl...plus normal tri=glycerides over the past year. My diet is basically ketogenic with occasional "errant" inclusions..i.e. sprouted grain and sour dough breads, a little rice, oats, etc. My sugar intake is limited to stevia, coconut palm sugar, and a little honey and b.s.molasses..Once in a great while i will have a cookie, brownie, piece of pie, etc. when eating with friends, or because i "want" it..This is not part of my regular diet however. Rarely do I eat fried foods. I saute in coconut oil only, and use olive oil on salads, or "after" cooking for flavor. THIS VIDEO is THE most informative one of any out there.. on the 2 types of LDL...No one else I have listened to on You Tube..including other doctors, naturopaths, and lay people have mentioned this. THANKyou for your service and dedication to educating people with your knowledge, research and insights. Much appreciated indeed!! and always timely no matter when people finally find you here!!! I’ve been on The Keto diet for 3 months. Before I started the diet. I spoke with my Dr, at that time she scheduled me for blood work at my 3 month mark. I lost 41 pounds which she loved. But what she didn’t love was my Cholesterol sky rocketed. And of course she wanted me to take medication to lower that. I refused. After a short conversation, she agreed with me to make some changes with my Keto diet. My LDL cholesterol is at 185 My HDL 40. My total Cholesterol 241. My Trig 84. She’s giving me 3 months to bring these levels down. Before Keto my levels were in normal range. In October if my Cholesterol numbers don’t go down. She’s going to offer me medication to lower it. How do I control this without going off Keto? I already eat lots Green veggies. Especially the ones that help with lowering Cholesterol. And I’ve eliminated the bulletproof Coffee.

and this is why I always watch Dr. Berg--this is a difficult to understand topic and he knocks it out of the park! I am a high LDL and chol of 245 and hdl of 94 and trig of 43 so I need to understand this--I eat really healthy hi fiber foods nothing processed ever. No sweets ever. my folks are very long lived all of them, no one has heart disease. (probably I am loaded with the big fluffies) Thanks Dr Berg!

I just got my labs back three months doing keto. My HDL was 45, my triglycerides were 61, my “bad” LDL was 160. She wants me on a low cholesterol diet. I’m sticking with keto as I’ve never felt better and started at 186lbs and down to 173

Omgosh!!! Thank you for explaining this. I had this in-depth cholesterol test. My doctor couldn't explain this at all!! I had to learn it from you. I'm pattern A triglycerides 133 & HDL 68. She made me feel like a failure. Even though I'm loving keto & have almost lost 30 pounds of belly & bottom fat. Thank you So Much!! Now I understand 😃

Hi doc , if all cell membranes need cholesterol, and a pt with high cholesterol who’s put on statins , isn’t that more detrimental to the body and the brain 🧠 that’s trying to just lower cholesterol without finding the real reason why in first place is high ! I really love your videos , thanks for keep educating us all 🙏🙏🙏

I am convinced that my dad developed a type of dementia because of the statins as his cholesterol was barely borderline ..."just a precaution".

That's very informative video, more I know about humans the more I realise the body designed very profoundly/intelligently and it seem to me it could live much longer than we think.

I understand your point on carbs and sugar. I am avoiding barbs and sugars for about 2 years now. My LDL is over 500. The only change I made is using a cream to handle skin condition called Clotrimazole and Betsmethasone Can this be the problem?

Dr. Berg, your videos are amazing. I am learning everyday, literally. Btw, do you have any advice on the "bad breath" due to being in Ketosis? it's really bothering me. Thank you!

Do you use toothpaste? That was my problem. As soon as I dropped toothpaste and just brush with a dry brush and my own saliva my mouth literally smells like nothing. Everyone stopped complaining about my mother's breath when she did the same thing. If you want to use anything, use it after you brush and make it baking soda or coconut oil because those will benefit your teeth and mouth immensely.
@samuellopes12547 жыл бұрын
i'll give that a try, it can't hurt, can it? ;) thanks
@Lycantis7 жыл бұрын
Nope! Toothpaste is a cosmetic item - usually filled with hormone disruptors, antibiotics, fluoride (not a nutrient - a hazardous by-product of chemical fertilizers and other toxic industry which the CDC fully recognizes does not improve dental health), artificial sweeteners, and other hazardous chemicals that do not belong in the mouth nor the body. By itself, coconut oil has been used for oral health for generations and effectively, too. A balanced nutritional regimen such as Ketogenic will eventually get you on track with dental health, but the toothpaste is going to harm that.

I agree. I use baking soda and water mixed in a glass jar. I shake it up before I use. No keto breath and no plaque neither. I'm totally jazzed.

Thank you so much for this info! I just got my first blood panel since adopting keto and was a little concerned by LDL of 172. But HDL is good (77) and triglycerides also good (53), so now I'm thinking this is a sign of Pattern A that I don't need to be worried about.

Thank you! I really love all your videos. I’ve finally lost the weight I gained during the insane peri menopause hormonal flux…..I’ve got just 3 pounds to go to hit my goal. Thank you for making IF and Keto make sense. I watch your videos everyday to “ brainwash myself”. Lol. So I can stay on track. This isn’t the suffering I expected. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my health. Your teachings have been a game changer for sure! Oh and my bleeding gums stopped within a day or two from your vitamin c. Your products are top notch and reasonably priced too! Another bonus. 💖
