9:51 The best magnesium glycinate
Let's take a look at magnesium for sleep or anxiety and when you may need to try something else instead. Sometimes, low magnesium is not the cause of your anxiety or sleep problems, and taking it can even worsen your symptoms.
The second part of sleep is called REM sleep. People with higher levels of adrenaline and cortisol tend to wake up around 2:00 am during REM sleep. Magnesium will not fix this problem because the high cortisol levels are not caused by low magnesium.
Stress and lack of exercise can cause poor sleep. Exercise, long walks, and physical labor can reduce stress and improve sleep.
If you find that you have difficulty getting to sleep because of racing thoughts and overthinking, you may be low in vitamin B1. Carbs, sugar, and caffeine can deplete vitamin B1. Taking B1 before bed can provide an immediate sense of calmness. Always choose a natural B1 supplement, not synthetic.
Instead of taking a melatonin supplement, it can be more beneficial to address why you do not have enough melatonin in the first place. Melatonin is inhibited by blue light. Darkness and infrared light recharge melatonin, so try getting sunlight or sitting by a fire.
Vitamin D before bed can help you sleep. Magnesium will not work if you're very low in vitamin D and vice versa.
If you're new to fasting and you go to bed hungry, it can interfere with your sleep. If fasting triggered your sleep problem, scale back, and begin fasting more gradually over time. Try incorporating more carbs at your last meal and increasing your carb intake to 50 grams per day.
Having plenty of sea salt on keto and intermittent fasting is vital. Salt causes your body to retain fluid, so not only will it help you sleep, but it can also help prevent waking to use the bathroom.
If you do need magnesium, try taking magnesium glycinate to help support sleep and reduce anxiety.

Exactly my case. A lot of daily stress, no coffee, despite cannot fall asleep, finally fall asleep at 2AM and 3 hours later I am awake and feel energetic. Cannot sleep for 2 hours, finally fall asleep at 7AM. Have to wake up at 9 and feel like a zombie. This video explains very precisely how to handle this. As someone who has suffered from terrible anxiety and insomnia, I can tell you a little coffee is not the culprit. It's sugar and carbs. Especially late in the day. I drink one cup coffee every morning and have no problems sleeping. It was all the processed crap.

Same here, bed at 2, wake at 5 am. I gotta say, circadian rhythm is key. I sleep so good in Winter, worse in Summer. It's a pattern. Also, the season light exposure changes yet we adhere to a 9 to 5 or 6 a to 5 pm schedule. What happens is in the summer, the melatonin must be too low and the extra long daylight hours cause late bed time being shifted ahead. In winter, I could fall asleep at 8 pm, 9 pm. In Summer, it feels like I could go to sleep at 2 am 3 am. We're not living like animals..they get up and go to bed with the sun. Humans have it bad.

I found any type helps me, otherwise I'm up in the middle of the night if I can even get to sleep. Lately I've been using occasionally using melatonin to just get to sleep and magnesium with it to stay asleep. With that I'm getting 7hrs and well balanced Light/REM/Deep, according to my watch. Without I just get 90% light sleep and maybe a sliver of REM if any and I wake up tired. I've not tried glycinate yet, but that's on my todo.

Dr. Berg, I started taking Mag-G a couple of years ago for night leg cramps, and it immediately took away my cramps. I easily fall asleep early, yet wake up between 2-3AM. Part of that was my guys snoring (he would fall asleep in the living room and come to bed at that time and wake me up) I recently started working out of the home and BOOM overnight my sleep schedule went back to normal and I'm sleeping all night until the alarm goes off. We both started Keto as well. We both notice we feel amazing while we're shredding weight. I take (1) 650 Mag-G daily, and that's all I need. The bottle says you can take (3) I started out at the lowest dose. There is no sense in taking too much if you can achieve your goal from (1) pill 😊 also, I don't have constipation ever. Mag-G is amazing, and it nearly worked overnight for me.

I'm a big proponent of magnesium for stress and anxiety and tinnitus as I am autistic and suffer from ptsd and have anxiety issues and tinnitus. But I have never felt magnesium helps me sleep, and while I was working, I had to stay up late until I was tired enough to sleep, even though I took 1000mg of magnesium per day and smoked marijuana. Also, trying to eat a lot of green veggies to get high levels of magnesium can cause thickening of the blood. My wife has this issue because her culture eats a lot of greens and her blood is so thick she has circulation problems and physical exertion causes her chest pains quite often. Good info in this video that most don't know.

On behalf of each and everyone of these lovely people that watch and listen to you Dr Berg, I would like to thank you for all your resarch and sharing of information. You have helped me several times when the medical profession has failed. Someone I love suffers with poor sleep, anxiety, stress, depression, ocd, mucular pain, Tourette's syndrome and now been diagnosed with bicuspid aorta. Doctors and Specialists have had this young man on 12 meds a day for many years and he is no better, infact some days are so miserable for him. Treating the symptom and not the cause and im sure these prescription meds are doing more damage than good. I'll be researching the information you provide, to help this young man to alleviate some of his issues, he doesn't deserve to be suffering. So grateful I found you Dr Berg and keep up the good work.

Hello, I love your channel. I take magnesium at night to stop myself from having terrible cramps in my legs. And it has helped me enormously. I am not waking up in the middle of the night trying not to scream because the pain was😮 so excruciating in my toes and my feet my thighs. I have it because of chemo. I’m been finished with it for several years but cramping is something I have because of the chemo and I have neuropathy in my toes. I really appreciate everything you do for us. Thank you.

@@Lola-tq8nv Thanks for the kind response. I hope taking magnesium glycinate and threonate before bed helps. Magnesium has changed my life. Best wishes! PS: You may also want to look into ashwagandha, benfotiamine, and (organic unfortified) nutritional yeast. I also take those. I believe ashwagandha has helped with inflammation overall, and that benfotiamine has helped with neuropathy. While I have no sense about the nutritional yeast, it's supposed to also help with nerve issues.

For me, someone who suffers chronically with poor sleep due to what I suspect to be a high cortisol situation, the combination of magnesium glycinate and calcium Lactate works like a charm. Not too much mag though. Even a little too much and I don't sleep. I have a theory that it can upset the balance of potassium, which causes one to not be able to relax. Doing mundane tasks like knitting and sewing really helps me with stress. I have CFS and can't exercise atm.

How come everyone seems to avoid Magnesium Salts (aka. Epsom salts)or Mg flakes (more potent) just add to the bath water. This is proven to be the most effective method of getting Mg into the body. The skin is the biggest gland we have. Optimal absorption. Or Mg Oil after a shower. The added benefit is that it can be applied locally to deal with cramps or muscle aches for example. A Professor of biology in Birmingham University did a study of a large sample group of people around 15-20 years ago. (Read it a Long time ago). He told them to bath in 100L water & 20% solution of Mg for 20 minutes every day for 7 days. He Measured their Mg levels before and after 1 week. On average they improved by about 33%. That’s BIG. Much better than the trace amounts usually obtained from supplements. Also, it’s raising the body Mg levels too. Not just the blood Mg levels. There’s a difference.

I agree i to think magnesium chloride oil and flakes are the best option and that al the other forms are over promoted and are a marketing thing. Not saying there not good but overated because the claims they out in them magnesium chloride also does. And the magnesium chloride is natural it’s also in the oceans so there for i think most bio available to our bodies. The other ones need to be produced in a lab

Currently going through a bunch of stuff with my special needs kids. I have 3. (PANDAS/PANS, Autism and the other fun stuff OCD,ADHD) fun how it all gets lumped up together but MTHFR (which really is a mother f***ker) seems to be a problem for us and magnesium is something I have to learn about because it has helped me myself with migraines and other things but I myself am so dis-regulated due to insane stress levels that getting my thoughts collected is an issue. I want to thank you so much for your content and sense of humor because I always go back and listen to your videos to help me with our crazy lifestyle here at home. It has helped tremendously and given me some help for myself... I just keep getting back to my terrible habits lol but I always feel good when I follow keto and intermittent fasting.. I just keep using stress as my excuse to cheat 😅... anyway I love your videos and your content.... wish all practitioners who are in insurance plans thought and did the research like you. Hopefully one day we move away from the corruption that is our health care system and food industry and start the process to actual healthcare and nutrition.

Love that you also mention non-supplement strategies like getting more sunlight and managing stress through physical work - a holistic approach is key! 👍💡 Your knowledge really sheds light on the complex dance of elements within our bodies, possibly including the endocannabinoid system which has its own role in sleep regulation. I bought magnesium from Walmart. I was eating healthy and working out daily, after giving up caffeine, sugar, breads & cereals, and carbonated drinks. Consistently lost 1 or 2 lbs a week, but still had a gut that wouldn't decrease. When I found out that all 6 vitamins I was taking had cellulose. And the magnesium even contained talc they all went to trashcan and my gut shrank as fast as my energy increased.
