The first part to de-stressing/removing anxiety is to be kind to yourself. More often than not it’s the pressure we put on ourselves that’s causing the issue. Ask yourself, have you done everything that’s to be reasonably expected, if the answers yes then give yourself a break. Live in the present - be present. Give yourself permission to relax and actively choose the things you focus on, everything else is just noise. Sending good vibes to those that might need it.

As for me, I meditate. In order to regulate my emotions, let them in, feel them and understand and let them go. I do not stick to emotions as they're just bursts. Meditation helps with managing nervous system and having control over things we actually can control.

Believe it or not I cleaned out 3 bedrooms got rid of a bunch of stuff and just finished painting my youngest daughter's room now that she has moved. I'm working on my kitchen and going through the garage. This has helped me so much. The rooms look empty but it has given me a feeling of control. I went through everything being organized has helped me feel better about the things I can't control and let God handle that part. Seeing all the clutter just made things worse.

I got really stressed out had sleeping problems because I am almost always indoors. I'm 19 don't know how to drive, no job, dealt with a loss at 16. What I have noticed, is that staying home is not good for me. I am also really deficient in vitamin D. I have decided to take control over my life and I do put a lot of pressure on my self. I will take it one day at a time. I will make plans with friends and laugh and I will grow up, which is something hard for me to do, but I know I can do it.

My cortisol was way off balance and several months of insomnia, panic attacks, horrible feelings of anxiety and worry and thoughts of suicide. My MD gave me meds to relax during the day and to sleep at night, these were awful and I found answers through my hormone doctor, with a urine test I found out I had chronic cortisol resistance and was put on a supplement called ‘cortisol management’ felt better and better over the weeks after being on this supplement plus meditation, yoga and therapy I am doing great!

She is and has presented about eighty-five percent of the symptoms you have outlined. Her immune system has been so compromised that she has an allergic reaction to Benadryl. Swapped coffee for a variety of teas / water often and cut out adding sugars. Listen to music less and vary from different genres or music, use audible regularly and radio from time to time. Being mindful and describing the things I'm doing, how food looks or smells and I prepare or cook. Cold shower every so often. Cutting out carbs seems to have resolved my ibs and acid. I've just discovered the keto diet after getting benefits from low carb so I'm going to give it a go. Thanks James

THIS video though is the most impressive because this video is ME. I have high cortisol, low potassium, muscle twitches, tight myofascial tissue, thigh cellulite, constant fatigue, insomnia (poor sleep), esophageal dysphagia, poor memory, brain fog, weight gain around the belly.... This video right here was so eye-opening, moreso than the others of yours I've seen and I just want to thank you. I really have to work on this. Really. I am also a police dispatcher for 16 years... I have a LOT of stress at home and internal stress from childhood trauma. I will get migraines after a fight or flight event. So many things, I can go on and on... Just thank you. Thank you so much for the research you do and making it freely accessible to all. *tears*

I would say that this is ‘indirectly’ related… I am always tweaking the balance of electrolytes and minerals to prevent night cramps, with good success, but recently, I had an issue with bad cramps again. Raises cortisol and puts my body under stress. Cramps so bad that my foot would turn and I couldn’t walk for a few minutes. (I am flat footed, so if I have been on my feet alot during the day, my feet aren’t happy 😆) A few months ago, I woke up at the start of a bad cramp - normally I would tense up immediately in anticipation of what was coming - fight or flight? God literally spoke to me that night - He said STOP. BREATHE. WAIT. I forced myself to go against what my body was trying to do - tense up, and was just breathing slowly and deeply and praying… within 30 seconds, I literally FELT the muscle relax and release. I have done this every single time since that night, and it works every time.

This is the FIRST time I have seen this issue laid out so clearly and understandably. I have worked in a demanding shift work job for over 40 years and now the results are manifesting in my body. I have a yearly medical provided by my employer but no one has has ever gone through this cascade of endocrine catastrophe with me and I doubt many doctors would know of it or think it to be important. Thank you Dr Berg, THIS is such vitally important information. Dr. Berg, I have been watching your videos for the last month or so and they are soooo good!! The last year has been a complete train wreck for me - developed anxiety, health anxiety, and depression stemming from first losing my Father, than going through a divorce and then losing my job due to Covid - all in a span of under two years - my body reacted in a way that I have never experienced: chest and back pain (continuous), heart palpitations (usually at night out of all times) neck pains, tingling pains and even losing 35 pounds this year when all this started. Have been checked multiple times for everything and doctors cannot find anything major thankfully - they tell me I am dealing with very high stress and anxiety - after watching your videos on nutrition, and especially vitamin B1 (been taking nutritional yeast for 2 weeks now and I definitely can feel a big difference) - my symptoms are definitely much more subdued - thank you for all your help!! This video explains exactly what I suffered for 20 years. Getting up after 2 hours of sleep and not being able to sleep again. I finally figured it was due to artificial foods like additives, preservatives colourings flavourings etc and I had read that it was due to high cortisols. The part I have not figured out is why these artificial foods cause high cortisol levels in my body. The symptoms describe exactly what I experience like bloating and inflammation, dry skin, osteoparnia, brain fog, water retention and depression. Getting lots of sun and exercise really helps and is an antidote. Now i watch my diet, eat only home cooked food and get plenty of sun and physical activity and I can sleep through the night. Would love to understand why the cortisol levels are elevated with certain foods. Thanks!

The #1 stressor in people's lives is their job. And most can't do anything about that. Even if the work environment is friendly, the fact of being tied to a schedule induces a stress response. In order to be truly happy and content, one would need to be financially rich enough to quit their job and be free to do whatever the heart desires every day and go wherever one feels they want to be that day (or month).

I am retired now and it is less stress BUT I truly believe the answer to life is to be appreciative for the time of life you are in at the moment. When we are kids, we want to be teens, when we are teens, we want to be 21, when we get 21, 30 looks good, and on down the line. Then you wake up at 60 and wonder why we are sick. Don't worry, be happy, like the old song says:)

Great informative and actionable video as usual! My nature has leaned towards worrying and anxiousness as long as I can remember. One specific manifestation I finally figured out was cortisol’s effect on my skin. After stopping coffee this past spring and practicing daily breathing and relaxation techniques, my life-long acne is mostly at bay (historically it’s been significant on an ongoing basis). I also finding that I simply enjoy life so much more; being in the present and accepting life’s imperfections is becoming a joy. Who knew?! Keep up the great content!

i've been dealing with high stress for almost 6 years now - i was finally getting better at year 3 (interestingly i was told by my dr to take magnesium to help me relax at that time) then it started again because of a new trauma. my issue always gets to where i can no longer sleep. doesnt matter how long i'm in bed, i wake up every hour, and sometimes i'll stay awake for up to 4 hours before finally falling asleep again. which of course makes me even more stressed...my vitamin d was in the teens, my blood sugar spiked to prediabetic levels, losing hair, zero memory... i really wish there was something that would just block the production of adrenalin and cortisol. its fine for that initial burst (like when i needed to call 911, or rush my dog to the vet after collapsing)... but once thats over, i just wish i could flip that switch. i know so many doctors dont think adrenal fatigue is real, but i sure as heck have just about every one of those symptoms that no one has been able to fix without just prescribing antidepressants!

I know how you feel. I have been in flight or fight mode off and on for the last 12 years so it's like my body will be stuck there and reacts super easily to stress. It finally started affecting my sleep this year, and it would take me hours to fall asleep and then I would sleep really light and get maybe 3-4 hours. I even had nights where I didn't sleep at all. It took several months, but here is what's helping.... 1) Taking long walks (making sure I get 10,000 steps per day even if I had to walk around my house) 2) Taking magnesium and eating foods high in magnesium and potassium (leafy greens, etc.) 3) Working less and taking a break (I tend to be a workaholic. That's my escape from what I'm going through) 4) Getting a massage to relieve body tension (I was surprised how relieving body tension helps the mental part too) 5) Setting a regular sleep schedule. Dr. Berg is right. If you try to go to bed after 10:30pm, it becomes harder to get quality sleep. I sleep best when I get in bed by 10. 6) Deep breathing exercises daily Overall I think being active was the #1 thing. So if you do nothing else, try to increase your activity levels for a week to see if that helps. I went from 2-4 hours per sleep this Summer to 5 - 7 1/2 on most nights. Still a work in progress. I wish you the best.

Dr. Berg... Thank you for this video. It describes whats happening to me. I have very high levels of inflammation and some gut issues even thou my Dr. says my tests are in "normal" range. I don't sleep well, my joints ache, I am pre-diabetic and have belly fat. Basically, I feel like crap every day. I KNOW my body is in chronic stress mode most of the time. I can actually feel a surge of adrenaline shoot thru my body into my legs - I get an instant tingling feeling in my legs that dissipates quickly, but it happens when there is a stressful moment (like a near car crash or something similar). It even happens when I just THINK of something stressful. I don't know if this adrenaline surge happens to other people, but I'm pretty sure all the things Dr Berg is describing in this video is happening in my body. I now feel like I can work on it as I now know what to do to help myself.

thanks a lot Dr. Berg. When I am stressed, I will eat a lot of foods .And although I have already know that I am totally full, I just can't control myself at all. After that I will feel guilty and run for a super long time. I really think I should try to decrease my stress. this helps a lot.

This is exactly what I needed. I have been experiencing so many of the symptoms you described. I decided to watch this video because I seem to easily stress out and then cannot get out of the spiral. I'm so glad that you mentioned physical exertion because that seems to be the only thing that turns it around yet at times it seems I can't even do that--sometimes due to poor weather, sometimes I'm too wound up. I watched the recommended video as well. It was super helpful because now there is a way to relax and get to sleep at a more proper time. I'm excited, in a good way, to try out all the recommendations. (Now I feel like doing the Vulcan sign and saying, "Live long and prosper." Trekkies will get it.) I feel better already knowing there is a way out of this mess.

When you can’t go outside to exercise or work in your garden, you can always stay inside and clean your house. It’s actually very fulfilling and tiring.

Thank you Dr Berg. Stress causes inertia/depression when stress/no sleep goes on for too long. I have been watching your vids and am adding sea salt to my diet. I drink loads of water and sweat a lot but never knew anything about electrolytes. I felt brutal all the time and needed to rest constantly. Thank you so much. Greetings from Ireland

Excellent content! Always looking for ways to handle/deal with stress. I have been doing Keto for about a year and a half, and am good in so many areas (like ZERO migraines now!), but am convinced I still have high cortisol issues. Thank you for this video, Dr. Berg.

This is what my doc said caused my diabetes. I’m constantly fighting infection my face especially started with bad Tooth ... my eyebrows bad infection, ect . Doc. warned me watching my levels. So warning others years daily lots crying married many years. To a Narcissistic personality disordered person they said myself co dependent trauma bonded.. I’m divorced now. Thyroid meds now and on insulin blood pressure meds bad back knees and more. Stress not the type that traffic or bad day. I’ve and then . Yes chronic emotional stress that consumes mind can’t stop reoccurring negative thoughts of the situation. I’ve been told by doc reversing this will take years of perfection living because I totally 💯 depleted my adrenals. I just try get up each day and be thankful for what I have.. many people have difficulty. Thank you I don’t have stress so much now that I’m aware of , sometimes my mother or some family members like to throw an insult or two , I try to avoid them. Yet I’m single isolated 61 years old now ...

@ Kim J I'm very similar to you. I'm in my 70s and I've been chronically stressed my entire life. My cortisol level was through the roof the only time I ever had it tested. I don't even understand how I'm still alive!

This video describes me to a T. I have suffered chronic stress induced insomnia my entire adult life and it can be debilitating. Even since I started IF, lost 60 pounds and became much healthier, I still can't sleep well, only getting about 4 hrs a night. I will put these things into practice and see if it works.

Thank you so much. I've been under chronic stress high cortisol, weight tummy gain totally not normal for me. I don't have any processed foods no junk no alcohol, have high protein, low carb, no snacking. However, one home from work on the weekends, I totally crash, have to completely rest like my body shuts down. Exhausted fatigued. I've gained 12 kilos only 5ft female which is totally not normal for me. Bloods fine, but have raised ESR every blood work so inflammation😢Get to sleep fine and fast but wake as you mentioned 2,3,4 am wide awake overthinking then have to be up for work. I'm 66 female on my own, due to struggling for years as raising my son now 30 working overseas. Rents higher than ever and no home stability due to now housing prices raised up significantly here in Australia so landlords selling up making huge profits quickly before the crash so had to move a lot. Work in Admin so basic wages. I'm a mess. Worried about becoming homeless. Always been healthy but thus is killing me @drberg. Thank you for your informative vids so much appreciated 🎉
