GOLDIG!

Could someone please translate for me what is going on here? And what the devil this had to do with Herr von Karajan?

Hi. This film is about a well-known and popular traffic cop (Günther Jakob) in the East German city of Dresden. From around 1979 to 1994, Günther Jacob directed the traffic at the intersection called "Schillerplatz". There were no traffic lights. Because of his elegant movements, he was nicknamed "The Karajan of Schillerplatz" by motorists. Everyone knew him and liked him. From 1994 traffic lights were installed and Günther Jakob had to leave his intersection forever. 12 years later there was a comeback for a few hours. A citizens' initiative brought Günther Jakob back to Schillerplatz. The authorities approved it. Everyone who knew him wanted to see him again. It was a very nice reunion. In the following link you will find a video of Günther Jakob directing traffic in 1993. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaitopyPmNWWhpo

@@nachosten8563 Sorry for the little joke. Karajan was notorious for closing his eyes when he conducted late in his career. In fact the issue was blown up into a controversy by his enemies. Btw, one of the most successful recordings of his career was made with the Dresden Staatskappelle, of Meistersinger in the early 1970's. He said of that orchestra that it's sound shone like old gold. Perhaps in that opera there could been among the master guilders/singers a role of master traffic cop?
