Dress Hunting Sporran - The Next Big Thing?

A Dress Hunting Sporran??? A viewer asked us if we thought it would be possible to create a hybrid of a Dress Sporran and a Hunting Sporran. Hmmm. Might be something to this idea!

Ok...perfect "hunting" sporran. That smallish cantle of Erik's design. The targe is an embossed mythosaur skull and the fur is wookie! Could use wookie claws to help hold the longer hair down! That would be "TAKE MY MONEY" level!!!

My dream sporran would be a black leather hunting sporran with a flap type top closure that is magnetically secured. Or the bear one that Erik was describing. That would be awesome too.

For the tight fur, how about bovine hair- Black Angus, the hunting sporran 5 flat leaves, and a pewter metal rim for the cantle, and the Clan Crest in pewter on the targe.

I definitely like form to follow function in design. So I would prefer most day sporrans have a little more storage depth and go away from the snap closures to something like magnetic or a rotating clasp.

Beaver fur with beaver tail flap. Celtic knot stitching across the top. Like the badge to give bling.

I’m working on finding antler to make a cantle out of with beaver pelt and antler tips instead of bells

I don't think anyone could afford this but I have a small name tag of Scrimshaw made from a composite of resin and cow bone. This as a cantle might be beautiful and strong enough. Of what you described, I think the "military" cantle with a few studs for bling, a short haired fur and slightly fancy leaves would be pretty cool.

My most recent procurement, fur bottomed hunting sporran with a metal targe Mjolnir. I'd probably wear it to a less formal event, but still wearing black tie.

Sounds like you're moving towards a paleolithic hunting-gathering sporran. Speaking of paleolithic, I don't know about sporrans, but if I had unlimited money, my next bagpipe would be mounted with mammoth ivory.

My needs are very simple. I'm planning on making a sporran with long sheep locks in gray. Only thing is, I can't find a cantal I like well enough. Or, the whole sporran is so expensive I wouldn't consider a conversion. Crazy, huh?

As I understand it, with a cantil, you would not use a kilt belt Is that correct

Yes , but for two reasons. The metal cantle would be clanging against the buckle and normally for full dress you would be wearing a waistcoat which does not work with a belt .

@@rallencorzine2691 You're welcome . I didn't realize you are new to kilting . I only got into kilting four and a half years ago but have many kilts and accessories now . I would advise to not do what I did and jump in too fast . The internet and KZbin is a great place to educate yourself ( including this channel ) and then find what works for YOU . Your taste will probably evolve somewhat as you get into it and more knowledgeable just like any other interest . Happy kilting ! Cheers

@@rallencorzine2691 My advice was for any follow-up acquisitions . You have to buy something to get started after all ! I have been to Europe five times but haven't made it to Scotland yet . A bit of envy . Have a great time there !
