The go aid is a dressage basic and every dressage horse needs to understand and respond to this aid. You also need to understand the basics of the Go aid so that you can help your horse if it ever has trouble going forward. It really is a part of basic horse training.

So appreciate your attention to the fundamental principle that it is up to the humans to determine, teach and apply consistent repeatable aides etc. Separating our aides and ensuring the horse understands the aid, releasing the pressure and developing self carriage is critical to horse welfare. It puts them in the position of being able to control the pressure. Thanks for your effort to share.

Thank you for this! Having ridden numerous horses over the past 30+ years I am now loaning someone else's horse that doesn't want to go for me. I have even resorted to wearing spurs, but hardly use them. It is very embarrassing to have to learn this basic technique after so many years of riding, yet so many assume that you know what to do. Your video has been very helpful and I am looking forward to putting it into practise! Thank you again!

Don't be embarrassed Catherine, I don't remember being taught this either. When I began starting horses under saddle I had to work out how to get them to go, stop and so many other things. It was the biggest learning curve of my life and I'm still learning every day. I put these videos out as I wish they were there when I was working my way through this so I am glad they are helping you. 🙂

My horse has decided to pick a front corner of the arena to stop and not walk forward. We will be qorking on this for awhile.
