Any horse can be a "dressage horse." Some breeds just have anatomy that makes it more difficult for them to extend, or collect, or flex at the poll, however, this only means more patience and time spent working on building muscles and stretching to achieve the proper balance without stressing the horse by expecting too much too fast. I have had great willingness and success, albeit different training schedules, from so many breeds including ponies, wild mustangs, andalusian/lusitano, dutch warmblood, and most recently a full percheron (18.1 hands). Good luck to all who work with heavy draft in dressage. So rewarding!

I have a quarter horse who's confident up to second level. I haven't shown her in training yet because I was not ready. But I did something right and she has the most beautiful collected canter, and a great passage.

It can be hard to get these horses into a canter but my god is their extended trot is beautiful. A shire's extended trot is possible more beautiful than a friesan's since it just has so much power. These heavy horses aren't built for dressage but you wouldn't know that looking at this horse.

I saw the caption of a Shire in Dressage and had to click on it, thinking it's about time the best horses on earth have a place in competition! And OMG I'm so glad I did! I had chills, tears in my eyes, and glued to my phone the entire ride! What a magnificent team and wish you both the best!!

Lovely horse and fabulous extensions. The powerful music is so appropriate. I had hoped to see some lateral movement - shires are naturals at that as they have to perfect it to get long agricultural equipment round corners. Just imagine how stunning the Kür will be when the rider raises her hand and keeps it still. Well done. Good start.

Dave Desmond same breed as a shire! They r both well mixed these days 😂 this is a shire predominantly but will have Clyde in his pedigree if looked at hard enough, my shire has this shires markings (white splash up his bum) the shire and the Clydesdale have basically helped save each other going extinct :)

@sirreality51453 жыл бұрын
Two things that everyone should hate about this video, using spurs and kicking the horse and using a bit. A horse is very sensitive to physical things. Horses have thinner skin than humans, about 0.05 mm thick, or 0.5 mm thick but there's a 0 in the decimal. That's thinner than a human's skin. So when you use spurs and kick the horse, that's someone kicking you in the chest with steel toes boots. And that shit hurts so that would hurt the horse way more. Kicking a horse is also like you getting kicked in the chest, just with normal shoes, it just hurts way more. And about the bits, a horse's mouth cavity is horribly sensitive. You can use a hackamore to ride instead of a but which can cause a horse to bleed. This is very abusive
@roygreenwood792 жыл бұрын
Would be good if you knew what you're talking about,the so called spurs are show spurs and never come into contact with the horse,as for the bit it's compulsory in dressage and we take great care to make sure they fit correctly, even going to the expense of having them made specifically to fit the horse,and why would we treat the horse with cruelty? We love our horses and spend a small fortune to make sure they have everything they need
@sirreality51452 жыл бұрын
@@roygreenwood79 Well not everyone knows how sensitive a horse is, a spur can still come into contact with a horses skin if you wanted to speed up.
@cindyrissal36282 жыл бұрын
The bit is only as harsh as the hands on the reins. I've seen less contented horses in the Olympics & other FEI dressage competitions. This guy wasn't mouthing the bit, wringing his tail...none of that. And spurs are like the bit...it's all in how you use them. A hackamore or a bitless bridle is great for trails, but bits are required for showing in the majority of classes, esp the English disciplines.
