The best freestyle ever? I think she was launched into the beginning of the public and normalised rollkur trend, sadly. Especially being ridden by Andreas. Non-stop tail swishing, insanely tight noseband (you can see sort of a bulge underneath it in some angles), stiff back, piaffe on the forehand/not collected and a lack of hindleg engagement especially in the extended trots. Textbook results of rollkur training. She seemed like such a sweet horse, and I'm sad that this is highlighted as the "ideal dressage horse" - something others truly look up to.

Every day animals give their unconditional love to us, and unfortunately there are those who are cruel to them. They will give their heart until it bursts, but the apathy of those who profess to love them is blatant. The tragedy is that we have just a glimpse through a window to witness the beauty and grace of these wondrous souls. Their lives are shear he'll behind the beautiful mask of their tormentors. It matters not to them what we see as long as it meets their desires. Until we speak up for those who cannot they will continue to suffer in silence. Much luv2 this beauty. I wanted to spec into large animal medicine, ungulates in specific, but horse people are so monumentally insufferable that I abandoned my veterinary training to focus on zoology and ecology field studies instead. Seeing the arguments happening in the comment thread was a comforting reminder that I made the correct choice. Working with dangerous, unpredictable wild animals is preferable to dealing with even one single equestrian. I don't get it...does English riding just attracts the lowest common denominator of humanity, or is there something about English riding that transforms normal people into utter conkwockets?

Having ridden out West, the cowboys treat their horses even worse. Between the foxhunting, eventing, cow roundups, rodeo and horse racing - both Tbred and Q Horse - there is much to be disgusted by. All of it championed by respective societies, despite the abuse. Any discipline using bits, spurs and whips is abusive in my book. Whips are such standard fare, no one even questions the cruelty of them. Despite my early training in horsemanship by dressage masters and good teachers, I've come to view most equestrian activities as abusive and nasty. And finally, true horsemanship has been forever lost. Veterinarians, trainers - a huge gap in understanding, past knowledge, common sense and kindness.

also can we just take a moment to talk about how most of the GP horses have such incorrect canter-trot transitions? when that is a basic “easy” fundamental compared to all these harder elements (piaffe, passage, pirouette, tempis etc.)
@claudia2733 жыл бұрын
Oh that's easy. Collected canter -> collected trot transitions are quite rare training a horse on this level. In trainings most riders go from canter to walk. And imagine all of the transitions a horse can make at this level. Halt, walk, piaffe, passage, trot, canter, ignoring all of the possibilities 'inbetween'. Let's also ignore the piaffe and passage, these are a little more complicated. All of these other transitions are made with the same sort of aid. A transition is made using repeated/prolonged half-halts right? Imagine these aids, the half halt, being a button. Canter/trot/whatever -> halt is quite easy, it's just the 'biggest aid', a full halt, you push the button the longest/hardest until the horse halts. Going from canter to walk, the button needs to be pressed a little less. The canter -> Trot transition is the smallest transition. So the button needs to be pushed really short compared to the other transitions, close to a normal half-halt. Now this is fine, and not that hard. But imagine using this in a test. You can't just use a prolonged/repeated half-halt for transitions, you just don't have the time for it, and the result will probably be a too progressive transition. So you also need to add intensity to the aids. And this is what makes it complicated. For a horse to be able to link a small difference of intensity to different outcomes needs a lot of training. So the transition collected canter- collected trot is not what is difficult, but the right presentation and degree of difficulty is what makes the transition (in the GP) difficult. And now i'm ignoring the biomechanical difficulty of the transition.
@brendadale8522 жыл бұрын
I don't know what you mean by GP horses, And, I've been out of the horse/training business for about 10 years. I was never into high stakes horse and training, I just worked with people's saddle horses, started them early, got them friendly, made good horses out of them and their riders. The riders needed more training than the horses! In the past few years, maybe 10, there has been a terrible transition within horse training, lets call it "professional' horse training and it scares the heck out of me! As a trainer for 30 years, I understood horses, knew how to work and dance with them, and believe me I could waltz with my horses. My horses all turned out smarter than me, and I was so happy about that, because they ARE smarter. I learned more, I think, than I could ever show them. TRUST!!! I never thought I was better, I never thought I was Bigger (DUH 128 lb vs 1,000 lb...who wins?) It all comes down to trust, and when the trust is there, that 1/2 ton beautiful animal will protect you at all costs. I got off course on the discussion, obviously, Horse training today is bloody scary!!!! Within the industry...Quarter horses, Standardbreds, Thoroughbreds, ESPECIALLY Quarter horses. I can't believe what I'm seeing if I dare watch a Quarter horse pleasure class, I'm surprised these overly psychologically sedated horses don't fall over as they try to decide which foot to put in front of the other. What happened to the amazingly spirited spirit of a horse, and why are these people trying to kill that spirit?!?!? I;m confused, and I'm sure these poor horses are even more confused. ....Bottom line,,why do people want to kill the amazingly honest and trusting, and giving spirit of the animal who has brought us so far throughout history, and still gives to us. I don't get it. I WAS going to say sorry for writing such a long comment, but I'm not sorry. I have a lot to say on this very heart-felt issue, and hopefully you understand. I hope you have a good following, and a lot of people might read this, hopefully food for thought.

I DO believe that the multiple Olympic medal winning jumper horse, Hickstead (Eric Lamaze riding) , could well surpass our lady Blue Hors for being the most watched horse in equestrian history, next to Secretariat. I'm biased of course, because Eric and Hickstead were our Canadian equestrian heroes. Hickstead, that 'little' horse, at only 15-2 HH, broke every record for jumping. Like Secretariat, there's never been a horse to match his record. Blue Hors was good, but she didn't have the joy of task , the joie de vive, that truly makes a remarkable horse. I know it all comes down to matter of opinion, and I respect your opinion, but as a 30 year horse trainer, I get a sense of when a horse LOVES what is asked of it compared to when its forced to do what's asked of it. I do watch dressage from time to time, just to see how the horses work. I have seen so many better horses than Blue. I've seen horses that are so excited about what they're doing, and they show it in every move they make . So much more animation, ears constantly flicking back to the rider, a live mouth.

Matine was put to sleep after breaking one of her front legs whilst at stud in March 2010. It's very rare that a broken leg can be successfully repaired. Many horses suffer post surgery complications; anaesthesia excitement: either on induction or on recovery, laminitis, infections, pins failing. Pound for pound, a horse has less muscle and skin in it's legs than a human. It's also a prey animal, designed to run if threatened, with that in mind rehabilitation is very difficult due to pain control and lack of cooperation from the horse. It's very expensive for a 90% failure rate whereas colic surgery has depending on the condition has 70% success rate. That of course presumes that the owner has noticed the symptoms and summoned the vet immediately and NOT used the 'wait and see ' approach. Beautiful. I used to watch BNT IBN 's Grey Turk train for Blue Ribbon Dressage shows like this. It was 1977 Longwood Florida. This horse looks just like Turkey! He was a surprisingly good natured Stallion. His stalemate Sahara Prince was a little more stocky and white. They both had manes and tails to the ground. I just saw that horse farm yesterday. It's not Egyptian Arabians any more. They were tatood and insured for $100,000.00. That is like half a million today. I was a 13 year old stable hand. I was paid $25.00 a week to clean the stalls in both barns. It was a joy to see this again after so long.

She was absolutely magnificent! An absolute joy and honor to behold in her craft. Many have commented about her carriage, and it's true that she is being shown in hyperflexion...but that doesn't mean that she is in pain. These exhibits are for short periods of time, and the horses are given plenty of time in between sessions to relax the neck muscles and stretch out. That's what any gifted athlete endures in training, for the sake of the exhibition. No one (animal or human) would be able to maintain these levels of stress on the body for long periods of time. As for the tail, it can mean discomfort; but I don't believe that's the case here. Matine obviously loves what she's doing, and that sassy little tail swish, let's us know that she knows, she is stunning and performing brilliantly! This is the most beautiful freestyle that I've ever seen. Reign on Queen Matine - reign on!! Such a loss when she died prematurely from colic. Her handlers and riders loved her too.

One of Richard Farnsworth's line in a movie, he said, "Watching dressage is like watching cement set." I was like, WHAT? Setting cement is nowhere near comparableto a dancing horse. Horses have always been the most beautigul movers whether dancing in a show or galloping across wide open spaces. There is no other such beauty.

Wow, she sure took her torture and learned from it well, that’s what these comments are saying in more words. They learn to lift their legs like that from pain, it isn’t a beautiful thing or something that should be rewarded. It doesn’t surprise me at all this beauty died young and tragically due to injury. This isn’t love between a horse and human, this is a horse being mistreated to bring awards and prestige to a vain human. This horse doesn’t care about titles and trophies, her owner does. Please stop this cruel practice, please stop with these bs excuses, especially the lies that the horse lives this and isn’t in any pain. Yes, they might get plenty of attention, that’s again to train them for human ego and to keep them healthy since they often have open wounds. This isn’t real love, this is an abusive relationship except unlike humans, the horse can’t leave. Please don’t blow up my comment with your alternate facts, I’ve heard them all before, your bs justification of this abuse. Please spare us both. Please get the metal help you need and a new hobby that doesn’t hurt sentient beings

An impressive display, but I dont know the horse or the rider, however, dressage does not have to be cruel or horrible for the horse, but that means that we should ensure that out is HARMONIUS since this is judged. IT is harmonious if the horse is choosing to do it and not made to do it, this means that if the rider can do it all without a bit, without spurs perhaps with just a neck rein or a head collar then they should get more marks. We need to start working on reducing the lack of Harmony in Dressage, and then show some spectacular movements... if the horse does not suffer while doing them
