Due to following you, I always think about 'putting together' the outfit I wear each day and have the tools to help me. Last weekend I was at my grandson's birthday party at a trampoline park. As always, I put thought into what I wore, keeping in mind the venue and event I was going to. Soft knit drawstring pants, pink casual knit top, beige cardigan sweater bookmarked with beige Sketchers. Here's the amazing thing - I went to the 'powder room' and 5 - 6 young girls in youthful outfits walked in. One of them actually said to me, very sweetly, "I like your outfit." Another said, "Yes, you look pretty." I was quite surprised by their compliment, as well as by the fact that they even noticed and took the time to say something. I smiled and thanked them wholeheartedly. I was touched by their kindness, and to be complimented by teenagers was quite uplifting. Thank you for videos like this one that help me to feel stylish every day even at age 70!
@nelly8592Ай бұрын
I can imagine what you have felt. I get often compliments (under all) from teenager girls who find my outfits pretty. And it's very nice but also surprising because of our age difference. I am 64. And my style isn't a teenie style at all! 😊

This feels like a review of what you have been doing this year. I’m not complaining. At this point, it gives me satisfaction. I’ve been taking lots of things out of my closet, and I forced myself to consider a certain color palette when I was shopping. AND, I forced myself to remember to ask myself, where will you wear this. I’m 75 so this was not easy. I kept feeling like I was in the car and putting on the brakes. However, I find that I can actually mix and match what I bought. I’m content with this. I’m happy, and I wanted to thank you.

Wonderful. Yes, I do frequently review the things I've already shared. At this point there isn't much "new" when it comes to good style, but since current silhouettes and lengths do come around, we often have to adapt to those. thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and watching. 🥰

Hi Kay! I would love to make what I hope is a positive comment here! I have been watching your videos for some time and just subscribed this morning. I am 53 years young and have one 4 year old granddaughter. Two years ago I lost my husband to a tragic accident and since then have not only had yo learn to live without him but I have also had to learn to live on my one income , fixed income. All of this to say I ADORE when you share Frank and Eileen! It is the best, well made classic clothing that I have ever purchased. I love everything the company stands for. I love the thoughtful packaging and the the sweet little bags! What I don’t particularly care for is all the negativity from other viewers about the cost each time you post. For myself personally, it is expensive, but what I do is add a few key pieces a year. I opt for quality over quantity. If Insee something out of my price range that i think would add value to my wardrobe such as my Veronica Beard scuba blazer then I put a little away each payday and treat myself at my birthday or Christmas. And when I see how much someone loves something they have purchased I never boo hiss them by pointing out that it might be out of my budget. I simply feel happy that they are enjoying it and make a mental note that it might be an add to “save for it” list.
@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarmsАй бұрын
Thank you for sharing this perspective. I do indeed get negative comments about the prices of things. But I know from my analytics that many of my quieter followers are like yourself … making investment purchases wisely, prudently and occasionally. I try really hard to provide a wide variety of content from different retailers and at a full range of prices. But usually it’s those who only want to see less expensive items who say anything about price…and only when the content doesn’t suit them. Then when I share a retailer that has lower prices they don’t seem grateful for that at all. It’s really frustrating to me because I schedule my content out on a calendar, so I know I’m providing a balance, but many women only comment about what doesn’t work for them. That said, I am very grateful to read your comment today. It was thoughtful and kind. And, like I said, I know from my analytics that I have many other followers who agree with you…and I do receive emails from them occasionally, too. One more thing. The main thing I don’t like about those negative comments is that I feel like they are meant to shame me and shame followers like yourself who are purchasing those higher end items. I just won’t tolerate that. So I’ve started screening any comments with certain key words in them. And I just will not publish those.
@ediekutchka3673Ай бұрын
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms Good Morning Kay! Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I sensed the shaming as well and that is just so sad to me. I have never understood the need of others to make someone feel bad about things that make them happy. I am sincerely enjoying the content on your page. So keep up the amazing work! I personally prefer the higher end content but definitely understand the need to mix up the materials to engage various audiences. For myself I shy away from buying from places like Walmart and Target for clothing as I tend to wear it once and never like the way it washes. Have the best weekend! I am headed out of town to watch the Grand baby❤️

Hi Kay: loved the corduroy dress looks! While I cannot afford F$E( no shaming here, just a fact) I was able to find a similar look at my price point from Lands End. I am full time grandmother to a sweet little 9 month girl who has been with us since she has been 5 weeks old! I provide childcare for the sweetest unexpected surprise in our family! My style formula is usually easy fitting pants (Sketcher’s Go Walk Pants are my favorite) that allows me to be on the move with a close fitting, but not tight pull on shirt. I am a short waisted petite person with an over generous chest that makes me look like a refrigerator box if I wear flare pants and oversized shirts! I enjoy watching your videos and have slowly embraced the style formula you speak of! @grace-2127Ай бұрын
Hi there. I'm in the same position because I can't afford anything in this video. That happens sometimes but I still love her channel and get a lot of inspiration from it. So what I do is I'll take screenshots of outfits I really like and find something similar at Walmart or at a thrift store. I'm not a fan of fast fashion but I don't have a lot of clothes anyway. I use the capsule wardrobe system. So if I do need to buy something and Kay shows something I really like then I go out and find the closest thing at a more affordable price. My area has a Gabe's store and a Ross but even Marshalls isn't badly priced. I hope this idea helps. We are all in different places and we don't all have the same budget. But I think we can all look great no matter if we spend $300 on a sweater or $50. Or less even at a thrift store. It's all in how you put the outfit together and that's where I need Kay's help! Take care. 💗

@DwynfalАй бұрын
I would definitely put a belt with it, probably one that complements the footwear you choose. A fun choice would be to roll, or scrunch, up that scarf and use it as a belt! It doesn't have to be tight to your waist, but just enough to give you a bit of definition.

I know that opinions on shorter pants ( ankle pants, in particular) are mixed, but, in my opinion, most pants described as ankle pants are really just longer capris, and, if wide, are similarly unflattering. IMO shorter pants, to look cute and modern and flattering, should be straight or slim cut (not skinny) and reach precisely the ankle bone. Pants that are shorter and wider, like those shown here, look awkward to my eye and, although numerous stylists say they elongate the leg by showing the area above the ankle, I think the opposite is the case. To test this idea, I would suggest getting dressed similarly as described here, putting on first pants like those shown and then replacing them with pants that reach the top of your foot. Take pictures of both looks and decide which elongates the leg and which looks more flattering.

Frank & Eileen sweatshirts $200-$300. NO THANKS !!!

I love Frank and Eileen and have a couple pieces. This sweater looks big and baggy on you. Also the corduroy dress looks like a sack on you. Sorry, did you use your usual size? If, so maybe should size down. I love the sweater, but wondering if I should size down to a small instead of my usual medium.

I like the sizes I wore here. These were style choices. I'm glad you are enjoying your Frank and Eileen pieces.

I think crop pants are not flattering for short people like me though. The ankle showing between the pants and the shoes doesn’t elongate the look. So I choose longer high wasted jeans.

I like the idea of outfit formulas. I just don't like the short pants.

Like the ideas but F&E is way too expensive for me. I’m retired & $250 for a button up shirt is way too much!!!

I absolutely LOVE each look and every item...but, 68 and retired, the clothes you are featuring is $2882. with tax over $3000. Say I wore each item at least 30 times a year, ( average item @$330) each item would only cost $11 per wear. I would say that is a bargain!!! The cheaper clothing I buy and only wear a few times per year-I now see as a waste. I am 100% convinced! Love F&E. I better start saving.
@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarmsАй бұрын
I certainly don't think everyone (even me) needs all of the clothes I share. I personally would prefer to have a smaller wardrobe than I do. But I'm grateful that these brands gift me some clothes to share with you all. I do, by the way, purchase just as many F&E clothes as they gift me. I love them! But I'll agree that they are an investment! Thanks for watching and sharing.

I love your formulas and already use them. However, the cropped jeans (I know you get so many comments on them) look good on NO ONE! I wear straight leg not skinny) or jeans with a flare--but absolutely no jeans that look like I have been in a flood. Love the corduroy dress but it needs a shape--it completely hides the figure.
@ElizabethPetrie-m3zАй бұрын
I could not agree more, especially when the pants are a wide-leg cut. And sorry, Kay, but I’m not a fan of the dress the way it’s been styled (or not) here. With a wide brown or black belt and knee-high boots, it would look more like a dress and less like a nightshirt. However, the concept of having wardrobe formulas is a good one. I also check my calendar and the next day’s weather to get an initial idea of what to wear the next day. Regarding jewellery: I’m making more of a point to wear my “good” pieces more often, sometimes making them the focus of the outfit. Life’s too short to leave lovely things hidden away in the jewellery box.

I Kay. I think of you as a very good friend. I'm 75 , but our lives are very parallel. Our styles are very similar . I get reassurance from you that I am still on the right track. You are an encouragement. Please keep up the great videos.
@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarmsАй бұрын
Well obviously I see things differently. But I’m truly curious as to why ankle length jeans signal “flood” to so many women of a certain age. Younger women don’t think that way at all. It’s definitely generational, but so odd to me.
@cynthiajohnston424Ай бұрын
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms As a boomer , remember all pants & jeans were worn full length , to the top of the shoe . Pants & jeans that were too short were usually a result of shrinkage from laundering / bad fit . Then someone coined the phrases " high water " or "flood " - think rolling pant legs up to not get wet 😂. Better than being rude & calling it tacky ! Also old worn out pants w/ frayed edges were never worn in public ( for house & yard work only ) . Adult women wore bermuda shorts , to the knee , culottes , skorts , & capris or pedal pushers as shorter options . 🥰
@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarmsАй бұрын
@@cynthiajohnston424 But the key word here is "were." Things have changed drastically since the 1980s and 90s. Our sense of style needs to evolve just like most everything else in our lives.

Good ideas but since Frank and Eileen do not carry petites that leaves me out of their clothes.
@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarmsАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing. But you might want to consider that most of their pants are ankle or even cropped length. I know women who are 5 foot who wear and enjoy their clothes.

Try the Silvio shirt. Very petite friendly!
@cynthiajohnston424Ай бұрын
Yes , as a petite also ( size 4 ) I don't understand why some designers , stylists & influencers don't realize that petite women can't simply just " size down " or shorten an item - petite fit is about overall proportion ! Even jewelry ( think necklaces too long ) & scarves ( too much fabric or too long ) need proportion . 🥰

Those tops have to be tucked in or they scream Frump. Infinity scarves are out, plaid shackets are out, crossbody bags are out , ankle boots are out unless you cannot see them under your pants. The waist is important this year, so cinch it. Wear what you like, but update it for impact. Love your channel, as I think you are exceptionally kind. I go to my 25 year old niece for advice and she is honest with me. Leggings, skinny jeans, plad shackets, floppy hats and round toe shoes are a no no. You will look dated, she is a treasure!
