Great video! My dad was the chief engineer of the TD-40B and 40C, first at IH and then at Dresser. He retired when Komatsu bought Dresser. Being Polish AND the head engineer, he was sent to Huta Stalowa Wola for two years in the beginning of the 80s to help oversee production of the TD there. I was almost accidentally born there... my mom had to jump on a last-minute flight to get home so that I was born at home in the US! I have some great photos of the TD-40B in pre-production at the proving grounds. Great vid, makes me feel nostalgic!! Thanks!

Hi, thats quite a story U have there. The only TD 40 I,ve seen here in Wisconsin, was at the Alma Dairyland Power Plant, stock piling coal. Havent seen it lately, they run Cats also. Our family run company has a TD 15E, also an older TD 20E, both real good Dozers.
@robertconnor22872 жыл бұрын
The TD40 is an International Harvester designed dozer. They only built prototypes before IH sold the Payline Division to Dresser. IH crawlers were very strong and reliable machines.

This old iron out pushing coal is not some thing you see. Good job for it, it can scream all day and nobody cares. No rocks to fight with, no hard clay, no need for a ripper just pushing coal. Thank you for the video on this old girl and to see her still working is a true treat.

Huge coal blade on this old girl and a nice roar! A little TLC on the access doors and a powerwash, and she'd be looking good. But I suspect at this age the dozer will just be kept running as long as possible and that's good enough. Love the other old iron in the background too, and of course a "PA Special" Tri-axle truck getting loaded.

We bought a D9L from a coal mine in Wyoming 12 years ago. Old School and it is so nice to work on. It is amazing because there was so little wear on some parts. But the end bits get deformed from the heat.

It's too bad you can't find parts very easily for them anymore. Its a good thing Cat has their "Classic" parts. Otherwise the old 9g's and similar vintage would already been cut up for scrap sadly.

Neat seeing old equipment like that still out doing a hard days work. They'll probably run that old girl till it breaks a part that is not available or too expensive. Been a long time since I've seen any Dresser anything around. We used to have quite a bit here.
@nicholasbrown70685 жыл бұрын
We use to have three TD15E dozers all owned since new, very dependable tractors, the last one had sat for almost two years, just didn't have the work for it. Had only 5000 hours on it when sold. That was 4 or 5 years ago

May run good here but I'll say what no one hasnt. A joke to get parts, a joke to fix. Good reason why they are no longer made. Only thing they ever did right was blade design. Operators love their blade pitch but besides that, it's a throw away machine.

Patrick Bolin These are STILL made, now by Dressta, largely based on small evolutions to the original designs. The early TD-40 series are considered to be representative of the “good ol days” and was a solid performer with good engineering and value. There’s a reason they still make it so many years later.

If you threw a smoke out the cab window, would the coal catch fire?
@mlhrepairsllc69425 жыл бұрын
No, low dollar cogen bank material.
@mikexcavator5 жыл бұрын
I used to have the ‘keys’ to start a coal burning steam locomotive. It takes a lot of heat to release the volatile gases that actually burn. Just the process to light the fire was quite involved, waste paper, lots of kindling wood and diesel fuel to ignite the coal bed.
@mlhrepairsllc69425 жыл бұрын
@@mikexcavator I would think that the locomotive would have used prepared coal to fire the boiler. Which burns a lot better than bank refuse. Coal is definitely tricky to get fired up sometimes 😂.
