Famous by age 7 as a star of the film “E.T.” and emancipated from her mother at 14, actress Drew Barrymore walked a sometimes rocky path, and now she’s opening up about it in a new autobiography called “Wildflower.” Savannah Guthrie sits down the actress, who recalls her struggle to grow up fast and talks about how she hopes to raise her own two young daughters differently than she was raised. She says, “I feel pretty complete now.”

@Miss X Poor doesn't only mean having no money, it also means bad. She was raised poorly means she was raised badly. Which is true. She was neglected and abused. So many child stars fall apart and can't put themselves back together like she has. She's Amazing.

I met her at 2 separate times in both our lives, not at all connected. I adored her, had high hopes for her, and have always been so happy and proud of how she made her life work for her. She broke the cycle of the Barrymore legacy and lives a life of dignity and truth. Brava, Drew-Daisy🌼 I believe you’ve helped more people than you know! You rock big time…..love you❤️

I love her so much. Have followed the Barrymore's for over 30 years. What she has been through and to be where she is now is incredible. Family matters and that is beyond incredible. She looks so much like her Great Aunt Ethel in some pictures. What an iconic family for well over a century. Love John no matter his issues with alcohol and such. Have a couple of records of him reading Shakespeare and a 78rpm of Lionel doing a Halloween record. Drew is awesome!!!

Gallows humor: When things are so atrocious, one must make light. The alternative is collapse. Plus, "polite conversation" does not tolerate authentic description of tragedy. Especially on a talk show...in sound bytes. Ms. Barrymore's response conveys mountains.

i love Drew Barrymore. i hv a very deep respect for her and all that she's been through and how she never lost that intrinsic quality of connecting with others on a very real, genuine level and choosing to stay vulnerable even when she had every right to shut the entire world - especially that mother of hers - out. she's always so gracious and kind even when ppl don't deserve a drop of it. she's really an inspiring story of perseverance and i'm SO very grateful that she made it through those early years alive. God bless you Drew!

No one taught me how to do laundry, or wash dishes, or take care of a home. I taught myself with reading about how to do these things at a young age. It's tougher when you have to learn how to become an adult really on your own with no one around to pay the bills. Im glad to see her thriving in life.

It's 10:45 PM, and I'm watching a wonderful presentation starring Drew Barrymore and a great cast which includes wonderful Angelica Huston. The production is exceedingly well acted and is a reminder of things once presented on television regularly in the good old days of David Susskind, Kraft Theatre, and many other splendid productions that are achingly absent from today's bill of fare on television. Come to think of it, I think what I'm watching is on par with anything that could be done by the Old Vic company! And I really don't think even Laurette Taylor could outdo Angelica Huston's performance.

My childhood was a nightmare. I ran away @ 13 years old never looked back. I worked my way throught teenage years alone with help from the ywca, worked as a waitress met a wonderful man dated 10 years self educated myself with the help of the new York times, and then my boyfriend, now my husband. My childhood was so very very bad it was like living a night mare. My parents had 17 children they were never home, never knew our names. I now am married to my then boyfriend my husband for 40 + years . We had one son , he was the apple of our eye, the sunshine of our life's. We lost him 12 years ago to blood born disease. He was are only child. I was so lost for so long. But now I'm just okay ( baby steps).😭 Lots of 🙏🏻s. I still cry missing him every second of my life. But hang in there. Your a wonderful person. 💞💞💞

4:30 What did you expect her to say. "After you I just kept telling myself "never again."? This is like the "Dose this dress make me look fat?"question. You can give the complete honest answer ("It's not the dress, honey.") or you can avoid being struck by flying shoes and just say "no" (which IS true). It is NOT the dress that makes her look fat.
