* just to clarify.., Commando sole = Vibram v100.. also, there's a bit where i say they're not handmade,, i meant not handsewn.. i believe they are actually hand lasted.. and everythings put together by hand & machine.. just to clarify.. Also,, that Nick's Packer,, it's not a 55 last.. not a 690 either.. it's a 5332.. which is Nick's n Frank's Packer last.. (opposed to White's 690 Packer, which is generally more narrow toe)

Vibram White-X soles: Vibram FIRE & ICE compound has been formulated for extreme applications while maintaining its performance values in a wide range of temperatures (from -20C to +250C). The formulation satisfies both NFPA requirements for flame resistance and provides flexibility and traction at -23C. Vibram FIRE & ICE can be used in any outdoor activity where fire resistance and high grip performance have to be maintained in very cold weather conditions.

For those types of eyelets, you can actually use a flathead screwdriver to very carefully pry them apart, just a little to get the thick leather laces to fit better. Also, if there's any sharp edges, use a piece of emery cloth to dull the edges on the inside.

thanks,, i just left them alone... the laces finally wore down a bit and fall into place much easier now

HEADS UP!!! I just got my Drews loggers in 10" Black Combo. They are a $350 boot, not even close to a $600 PNW boot for less just because it's made in Mexico. . 1. Drews needs to change their description. The leather in my boots is NOT a 7.5-8oz leather. It is 6-6.5oz at best. I have a pair of Wesco Jobmasters (~$400 on sale), which are rated at 6.5oz, and these are almost the same in the shaft and less in the vamp. My Nicks Roberts are 6.5-7oz W&C EB, and they are noticeably thicker and rated at 6.5-7oz. The lower vamp of the Drews has been heavily sanded to the point where almost all the roughout is gone, and has some smooth spots. They add an inside liner, which makes it almost as thick as the shaft leather, which is quite disappointing. 2. The overall build quality is EXCELLENT, but the leather is a C grade in the vamp, and maybe a B grade in the upper shaft. -- I would NOT recommend these for actual Woodsmen or Firefighters. They are a good solid boot for an average homeowner for doing chores, but not a real professional grade leather boot.
@toneohm8 ай бұрын
heads up..!?? lol.., idk.. i think for half the price.., you're getting 3/4s the quality at least... I have some old Nick's Packers.. and those definitely are that thicker 8oz.. the Drew's may be slightly thinner I agree, but its still Seidel leather just like my Nick's and most of these American made PNW brands.., also, 90% of these brands have a liner in the vamp.. its extremely common to do so and welcomed.. these boots have plenty of meat on them imo.. and I do a ton of physical labor in all sorts of rough environments.. the only things beefier with any noticeable difference worth having is a JK Superduty, a Nick's Builder Pro, a White's Smokejumper, or a chunky Wesco Jobmaster.. Frank's Commander.., and considering the weight of those boots.., its really not worth it imo.. unless you're literally a wildland firefighter that works an insane 12-16 hours with a 100lb backpack.., i don't see a reason you'd honestly need anymore boot and spend any more money.. if I actually wanted the toughest boot.., I'd get the JK Superduty or Nick's Builder Pro.. or a Frank's Fire Commander.. but I'm not interested in getting the biggest and heaviest boot.. I have alot of walking around to do at work.. at a certain point, the extra weight becomes more of a burden than an aide.. the vast majority of ppl that need a good work boot, are not woodmen or wild firefighters.., they use boots like Thorogood at best.. and this video is here to explain that they can get a much better boot, for $100 more than a Thorogood.. everything has its place.., im not here to put these in a bracket with a 12 inch SuperDuty.., i just want ppl to be aware of PNW construction methods.. even if these are not technically assembled in the US..., its US owned, with mostly US materials.. and for $350,, there's really nothing that compares, except a Frank's Patriot.. but they're a 10 inch standard and I wanted an 8.. also, these were in stock, so i didn't have any wait time
@Condor19708 ай бұрын
@@toneohm I'm not saying they are a "BAD" boot. They are OK for doing chores and firewood, etc. They are NOT the 7.5-8oz leather that Drews say they are. That was my only point. When you advertise something at 7.5-8oz, with an NFPA rated sole, you are giving the impression they are meant for professionals who need them. That is not the case. My only complaint is the quality of the leather appears to be falsely advertised and needs to be changed to reflect the actual quality of the leather. Just because it comes from Seidel, does not mean they don't have thinner and lesser quality rated hides that come out of the tannery. They make hides of every grade to be used for various clothing and footwear. Drews needs to make that clear.. That's all.
@toneohm8 ай бұрын
@Condor1970 did you get the Loggers or no?? They're every bit as thick as my White's Ranchers.. I'll do a video just to prove it.. I feel like you're splitting hairs about the leather thickness.. or maybe you got something that was off.. bc with the way mine turned out.. I've nothing to complain about
@Condor19708 ай бұрын
@@toneohm ...I'll put it to you this way. The vamp leather has been sanded so thin, in an attempt to even out the roughout finish, the leather is paper thin. In fact, there are a couple spots where they sanded all the roughout off to the point a shiny spot of the outside tight grain layer is showing through. They made it thicker by adding a thin leather liner, which does restore it to about 2mm thick. So, with the black leather and the liner, it equals the thickness of the shaft, which measures to about 5.5-6oz (~2.0-2.4mm varying). Because I mentioned this to Drews boots, they obviously agree, and understand, as they admitted to having some QC issues with the boots coming out of Mexico. As a compensation, they sent me some nice wool socks and boot conditioner, since I did already wear them outside a couple times before realizing how thin the vamp leather really was. The boots are actually very well made, and quite comfortable. Because the leather is thinner and a softer tanning, they are breaking in much faster than most other PNW boots.

Dude they are half the price. The biggest majority of people will be just fine with these boots. If you want to pay double to get a bit thicker leather, go for it. For the price these cannot be beat.
