When I was in Cameroon a police officer stopped our car, demanded the yellow fever vaccination card and once we handed it to him he claimed we had a huge problem because we were not vaccinated in Cameroon. After 15 minutes of absurd arguments I gave him $20, he smiled and we proceeded with our journey. You can't fight it, especially at the borders. Stay safe bro!

As a Sierra Leonian this actually happened to me too in 2016 at the Lungi airport when I returned for the first time since I left as a child. They scammed me for $20, lying about how I needed a yellow fever card when the government at the time had stopped making it mandatory for people to come into the country. The sad thing is sometimes the central government is actually working hard to make sure bribery is eradicated, but unfortunately this is an issue that has been ingrained within many of our local countrymen for generations. I’m in full support with you guys for sharing this so we can continue to shed some light on one of deteriorating factors to Africa’s progression. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful country and the people are very welcoming and friendly, hope you enjoy yourselves. #SierraLeone #Saloneborbor

I was so upset that I told him that we did not have any money, we will see him on our way back. Also, I was at the bank and an officer came up to me and asked me for me. He had a machine gun on him. As a Lebanese born and raised in Sierra Leone , a land I consider home , this is not what Sierra Leone is like generally . Beautiful welcoming people , you will get help without asking for it , if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere you will see someone show up to help you . I understand your frustration about being scammed but I wish you would have made a more in-depth video about beautiful mama Salone . One day in that country will make you forget about the scammers . Something very similar almost happened to me in February 2019, entering Tanzania from Kenya at the Sirari Border Crossing Station, near Isebania!!! The health officials in Tanzania sent us to a room with closed doors at that Station and wanted us to pay U$50 each for a vaccine document. I was very firm to explain I did not want to "buy" that document as I already had the yellow fever document I showed them... Luckily they allowed us enter Tanzania without paying the U$50 each... But It was quite distressing!!! Also, some years ago, while leaving Swaziland, at the Lavumisa Border Post, the Swaziland immigration officials threatened to arrest me and my friends because we didnt have a Swaziland visa, since the other Swaziland officials at the Jeppes Reef border let us enter Swaziland on the same day, without a visa, after we said we would leave Swaziland on the same day from the Lavumisa border. Of course the Lavumisa officials were already warned of our presence by the Jeppes Reef officials that let us in... It as a real scam!!! At the Lavumisa Border Post the Swaziland immigration officials were very agressive and told us we would go to prison if we didnt pay them U$35 each to get the "exit visa"... The three of us were very scared so we ended up paying... Very distressing!!! That happened when we were driving from the Kruger to Richards Bay in South Africa and, at least on the map, crossing Swaziland seemed a faster option... But the roads in Swaziland are horrible, so don't make the same mistake and avoid Swaziland by all costs!!!!

@@hotpepper5037 you're right, European governments robbed Africa and keep doing it but that does not justify the bribe and scam culture which is one of the reasons why I am not attracted at all to western Africa. @@hotpepper5037 Yes man don't misunderstand what I said. Slavery still exists and what you say is right. However two things: 1) Drew made a video about bribery not about slavery. Of course slavery is a big problem but the issue discussed here is another, and I am sure Drew knows what happened to Africa in the past. Nobody, or at least me and Drew and many others, deny what is happening and we do not underestimate is; we just talk here about something else. 2) Bribery and corruption are still a big problem, they are not secundary. It is an issue worth discussing, and they're not completely Europe's fault. Africa is poor because of European slavery as well, but if African official themselves steal money from African civilians that makes the continent poorer. If corruption was fought Africa wouldn't become suddenly a rich continent and slavery wouldn't end, but it would make things better.
