10:19 yeah something like that actually did kind of happen. The first emperor of Jin, Si Ma Yan, had nearly 10000 concubines after he destoryed Wu and absorbed their adminstritive system. So he would have goats dragging his chariot within the palace, and go to the closest concubine's room when the goat first stopped to eat grass.

Being infantry with tank support is infinitely better than being infantry without tank support. So when Americans optimize their design of tank so they can make more tanks which results in there being 10 battles at the same time, from which 9 battles are German soldiers without tanks, while Americans have tanks in all 10 of those, creating 9 Americans wins against 1 German win, it clearly shows which design is better for that occasion. People make this mistake of comparing designs with comparing thickness of armor or how big is their cannon, when in fact the most important thing is whether they are suited for their task. All Americans tanks had to go to the port being shipped on a cargo ship across ocean and then be used on another continent. So obviously making them twice as heavy would hinder transportation, and would be bad design. So that graph in fact shows how meaningless is to compare Tiger to Sherman. If you make something that is excellent in one battle, but loses you 9 other battles at the same time, then can you really say it’s better?
@giantWario
@giantWario 2 жыл бұрын
@@stafer3 If all of that were true, American infantry would have killed more German infantry than the other way around. Unfortunately for you though, that's not what happened. Also, the Germans had so many fuel problems that they were still using horses to transport most of their equipment. So even if they could have built 10 times more tanks, they still wouldn't have because they would have just been sitting there uselessly. And mind you, even if you were right, none of that changes anything when discussing which is better. People are discussing which is better from the perspective of the soldiers, not the generals or politicians. If you're in a Sherman tank and all of your rounds just ricochet off a German tank's armor at which point you're just one-shot by the enemy, I can guarantee you that the fact that some other Sherman tanks are winning somewhere else doesn't suddenly make your tank better from your perspective.
@SuperCatacata
@SuperCatacata 2 жыл бұрын
@@giantWario The Americans and Canadians had many more restrictions in making tanks than the Germans ever had. Biggest of which is transporting such a massive supply of armor across the sea. Of course they could've made much bigger and better tanks if they weren't required to he shipped in mass to the troops as quickly as possible. The shermans performed their support role much better than German tanks ever did. With much more limitations. That's why there were like 500 different alterations to the basic sherman design. You can't compare their effectiveness strictly on how many infantry they killed per tank. The two tanks are better at many different things. A smaller sherman would've been more economical too since you brought up oil consumption. Meaning more could be used with the same resources at once.
@stafer3

If Americans didn’t send any tanks at all, then from perspective of those in a tank, they would be nice and safe behind ocean in their tanks that weren’t send. Every design decision is about balancing advantages and disadvantages. And especially since you know that Germans are low on fuel. So they are forced to make small number of big tanks, that can’t be used everywhere at once. Not using such weakness by opening multiple parallel tank battles where Germans can’t have tanks in all of them would be waste.

3:00 I’m gonna do it. So…that girl is Inazuma from Kantai Collection. It’s a game about WWII ships reincarnated as girls who fight monsters at the sites of old battles. The heroes are the Imperial Japanese Navy (in the anime they’re the ONLY heroes, while the game also has units from the other Axis and Allied countries too, all amicable as they’re fighting a common threat) But yeah…kinda funny that. Also iirc the IJN Inazuma was known for rescuing survivors of ships they sank and allegedly had a strict “don’t torture our enemies” code (I don’t claim to know how accurate that statement is).

About tanks, the problem is, that Germany lost war, ally had much more tanks, and much more Shermans were destroyed, than German tanks. It took 5 Sherman on average to destroy panzer IV. The Allies did have much more tanks, than German. In one case German rum out of ammo before Allies run out of tanks. With that being said, German tanks did have problems with reliability. Edit : like someone said in comments those problems were surprisingly big. Yea coments say, that some of those claims are not true, and not suported. Still the statistic isn't proove of the claim, that they were better. They were more relaable, but not because of that statistic.

20 Shermans were probably built in the time it took to make one panzer. So I'd say that's a good trade. Not to mention the Shermans had to be made that size for easier transport across the Ocean. German tanks faced none of those issues while being designed.

@@SuperCatacata You are comparing US economy and German economy. German were constrained by manpower, oil, and I think other things, so they couldn't keep up with US anyway, so making less more powerful tanks was good decision.

the reason why people say that it took five Shermans to destroy one Tiger was that US tank doctrine mandated that tanks travel in groups of five to support each other, regardless of what tanks they were expecting to encounter.

Tigers were slow powerful and indestructible from the front. Built for going through hedge rows and heavy foliage, but due to their huge engines needed to keep their back side ventilated which was their weak point. The Sherman was the opposite. Light fast and maneuverable, with difficulty traversing rough heavy foliage. Once tigers were in open fields of France they were quite vulnerable, in the hedge rows around saint Martin they were not effective against small infantry.
