Czechia here. Can confirm that we always tell people that we're from Central Europe and get disappointed when told by Western Europe or the US that we're Eastern Europe. I guess we want to see ourselves as western and modern but also Slavic, a perfect balance. We don't want to be eastern because that sounds too traditional and too Russian. It's funny that we even have such a conundrum, cinsidering that most foreigners have no idea Czechia even exists. We also have this complex about insisting on being called "the Czech Republic" because "Czechia" sounds "too new". Except many Czechs suck at English, so instead of writing "I'm from the Czech Republic", they write "I'm from Czech republic", which is Czenglish. As an English teacher, I'm in favour of "Czechia". Fewer mistakes to be made.

Honestly, as a Bulgarian I can say that we`ve always seen you guys as Eastern Europeans. To us Eastern Europe means all the countries that used to be part of the Eastern block plus Greece and Cyprus but without Germany. I know a lot of countries like the V-4, Slovenia and Estonia try and pretend to not be part of Eastern Europe because this part of the world had communism and is relatively poorer but to me this just seems silly. People make jokes about how the Balkans are fucked up as well and in some ways that`s true but in others it`s not and a lot of it is just overblown stereotypes and not actual understanding of this part of the world. I don`t know why Czechs hate Russia that much either. I`m guessing it`s communism since the two countries really don`t share anything anymore and Russia really doesn`t pose a real danger to Czechia either.

@@sam_vos No need to get all butthurt LOL. We`re just having a friendly conversation. It`s a stigma thing. Eastern Europe is associated with some problems and generally being less developed than Western Europe and so Eastern European countries like yours try to escape the stigma by using made up terms. If you want to get super technical about it the center of Europe is actually in Belarus. People forget that 30%-35% of Europe is Russian and countries like Armenia, Georgia, Cyprus and Azerbaijan are or are not depending on who you ask. Europe is more of a social construct/cultural place since it belongs to the same landmass as Asia and Africa and the lines are a bit blury/arbitrary.

World War Hungarian meme, to clarify the story: It was the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, after we managed to win our rights politically from the Austrians. Even if we did not get rid of the Austrians, at least we became a dualistic state. But the leaders here were still the Austrian House of Habsburg. Then came an assassination in Sarajevo against the Habsburg Archduke and his wife. The assassin was a Serbian man. At the urging of the Germans, the House of Habsburg launched an attack on Serbia. The end result was that in 1920 nearly 67% of our territory was taken away. We was punished for a war for which we were not responsible. But in the meantime, the West was still saying that Hungary was finally free. Well... thanks western. There are always Western propaganda sites that we hate Russians for historical reasons. But I can't forget what the West has done to us so far and is doing to us now. With the help of Russians, the Austrians defeated our freedom struggle, and the red terror in Soviet times, nothing besides what the West has done to us. Even now, the Western media is working to paint the worst possible picture of Hungary. Half of which isn't true just because we don't want to be a woke state.

Honestly the catalonian independence movement never actually disappeared, in the northern parts of the region I have seen the movement's flag hung from the lamp posts by the mayor of the town. The only thing that happened is that they no longer have a leader as willing to push it as old Carles puigdemont was. My guess is they are just biding their time, waiting to pounce

About the European Olympic team….. I would love to see this at a lot of Team Sports. Imagine Ice Hockey… having to come up with 12 Teams. You have the US, Canada, the EU team, Norway, Switzerland and maybe Britain at a Push. That is it (as Belarus and Russia are banned), the rest isn’t even close to quality of the other teams. You might see 10+ goal wins.
