Officially the rules were that when you were on a hungarian administrative land, the official language was hungarian (or german if you were part of austria) and you needed to learn hungarian. About the french golden coast, I live there and the reason it is called that way is because it is a region that depends on vineyards and wine and in autumn the leaves on the vineyards turn goldish. The vineyards themselves are concentrated on a single really long coast (what i mean by that is that before it you have miles upon miles of plains and the vineyards are on the slope of the first hill which is really long) and so it is called gold coast because when you come from the plains in autumn you see a really long stretch of goldish vineyards on the first slope of that hill.
