Do look up the treaty of Brest-Livostok, which was then ratified by the Bolshevik government. Given that Imperial Russia ceased to exist and the Bolsheviks accepted an enormous loss of territory, that wasn't exactly a win for Russia.

regardless, later on Russia fought itself and ended up with Stalin who factory reset the whole country and return it to USSR (Russia) stronk. for a while at least then came 1991 and Russia is weaker than ever; Russian empire & USSR were as big as they were because they also had Ukraine, Russia on the other hand is on its own, fighting against its former puppet state (now independent)
