While the 1600s are indeed the golden age of the United provinces, said golden age started in the mid 1500s and ended with the Franco-Dutch War in the 1670s and they had already started to decline shortly before that. Moreover they were at war almost the whole time, were invaded a few times and even kicked out of south and north america. It would be somewhat incorrect to say they were the most acclaimed, i mean in the french court they were often reffered as " les gueux des mers" the sea beggars and their large non professional navy, their greatest strength ended up a weakness.

I almost spat out my meal when I heard Drew pronounced Goebbels literally like "gerbils". :D In all honesty though: In German, the letter G - unless in some loanwords predominantly from English or French - is ALWAYS pronounced like the "hard G"! And that is not only the case in German, but in the majority of Germanic languages, all Slavic languages, all Celtic languages, all Baltic languages and in the standard transcription of most languages that originally use a writing system other than Latin-based. In other words: Unless you're speaking English or any actual Romance language and you encounter the letter G (not including multi-letter phonems that include a G, like "gh" in some languages) you're almost guaranteed to have it right when always using the hard G sound. :)

The Deluge is so unknown part of European history yet it was massive for the region. Basically Poland was weakened from many wars and struggling with internal problems, then Swedes flooded into Poland causing death of up to 40% of Polish population and destruction of about 50% of properties, not to even mention robberies, Sweds were taking everything, from art to marble from the floors and even entire columns xD After that Poland couldn't defend itself from 3 empires and partitions happened...
