Love how you've included the 'galactic hyperdrive' from original elite, brilliant.
@Wu-Tanei4 жыл бұрын
I really like how you are able to combine the lore of all installments in the series. The Galactic Hyperdrive isn't "canon", as all predecessors to Dangerous are. I once heard the theory that the earlier games were "simulations" by the Pilots Federation, explaining the Thargoid combat, aliens and galaxies as simply training scenarios/ stand-ins for actual skills a pilot needs. But I also like the less extensive idea of such things being simply rumours, as this still involves the other games in the lore, rather than exclude them fully.

This is a great series. Being a player of both the original Elite and Frontier: Elite 2, I find these explanations of technologies either upgraded or lost fascinating. However, I'd still love to know whatever happened to the MB4 mining machines and, more importantly, the atmospheric shielding modules that were present around the year 2200. The latter being some very significant technology that seems to have been lost in the matter of 100 years . edit - Although I see light atmospheric landings are coming back in the new Odysee upgrade, so that's good :o)

I'll see if I can cover those items in a future episode.

@@drewwagar That would be awesome. Do you still have a direct line to the loremasters of the Elite universe to ask these sorts of questions? If so I have another couple of questions you could ask them for me if you could. 1. Why do you lose npc crew if they are 'with' you when you suffer RUD? I'm presuming the explanation involves something like 'There's only one escape pod per vessel' but this doesn't seem to fit with other mechanics in the game. If, for example, you drop your NPC crew member off somewhere in the bubble then travel across the galaxy to Colonia, you'll find that same employee sat in a crew lounge at your destination. How do they get there? My theory for this is that NPC crew are in fact holograms that can be picked up and used whenever and wherever you need them. But if that's the case, why do they die when your ship blows up. 2. How can 1000's of items of engineering data scans, not to mention 1000's of engineering materials, survive a RUD yet any exploration data you've collected gets lost? Surely data is data, if one type can be persistant, why not another type? I'm not trying to be salty here or pick the game apart, it's just that these questions have been bugging me for a couplke of years now. An explanation, if possible, would put my poor confused brain at ease :o)

So this explains why stations are capable of the insane jump ranges they are able to make. My only question is why isn't that jump drive fitted to the fleet carrier's? Sounds like a CG to me.
@wormwoodbecomedelphinus41314 жыл бұрын
The bubble is currently a mere150 lightyears across. With the maximum jump range of Tritium-Engine vessels being 500 lightyears, it's likely that there's simply not been enough interest or enough funding for such an idea, within the short amount of time since the FSD became a engine available to the public.

They likely have the original frame shift drive like the capital ships

I love the style of this video. I've enjoyed the lore tour, but this is way more effective. I can't wait to watch the next one!
@Monody5124 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure I can accept that the Drake-Class Fleet Carriers use a Type-2c drive. It's visibly different in operation from those of capital-class ships, and is deliberately referred to as a "frame shift drive" in-game. Considering also that these drives have a repeating jump rate of about 20 minutes versus the week required by the older models employed on megaships, I have to imagine they're at least Type-2d if not a modification of Type-3 technology.
@Monody5124 жыл бұрын
@Nebula Nope. Different visual effects. Black clouds vs grey... Capital ships produce no lightning... The clouds 'extend' forwards and backwards for carriers... Plus contrary to what this video says capital ships don't need a lengthy pre-jump sequence. They can initiate an emergency jump in mere seconds. EDIT: Actually for whatever reason capital ships only *sometimes* produce lightning. I don't know why this is, and only noticed it after making this comment.
@monogatariencyclopedia52773 жыл бұрын
@@Monody512 maybe it was some kind of visual upgrade? and as for "only sometimes" perhaps it is a graphics glitch? like say if a sun is a certain colour in 1 system maybe the game shits itself and doesn't do the lightening

Elite could do so much with hyperspace, make an initiative to create a witch space station, a dlc where you can travel to and explore hyperspace itself instead of merely using it as a means to an end

Hello Drew! I love listening to Elite Dangerous lore stories. I just always wished they were longer. Like, much longer. I’d love to see/hear hour-or-so long reads. Have you considered making them in that length? Maybe combining a couple of them into one? I kight be notpicking here, since it’s absolutely possible for listener to create a playlist and just play it, but still; I’m imagining I might not be alone thinking that the longer, uninterrupted format might be better, as I usually listen to the stories as I’m exploring the vast Milky Way. All the best to you and thank you for the work you’ve been doing. 😊

Suggestion to all: you can perform an hyper space jump by selecting the video time marker and scrolling it forward. Scrolling it backward will simulate a future technology of backward jumping.

"Significant Tactical Advantage"? Given the Thargoid's ability to jump anywhere into a system AND their significant fire power, there's no way humans could win a war against them. Basically, they have overwhelming firepower and the ability to engage in guerilla warfare. It's a damn good thing they limit themselves to NHSS or we'd all be screwed. ;)

I can't seem to find any in game science for Witchspace, but I'm inclined to believe it's the plane in which anti-matter exists and is visible, which would explain why when a capital class starship jumps, all that lightning, and smoke could simply be a contained matter/antimatter reaction, contained in witchspace but, visible in real space.

Is there like...any reason why Capital Ships uses the 2c instead of 3? I mean aside from the range and the advantage mentioned, but... The prep for jump seems rather detrimental when you're in an active combat zone and trying to escape.

Dumping radioactive waste in uninhabited systems? More like dumping the waste from the military drive immediately upon finishing your jump, before you were close enough for the authorities to notice.
