If you're just getting into Behind the Back Poi Moves, make sure to check out my online course: Beyond the Basics of Poi Spinning. I have a detailed section of this course that covers the basics of behind the back plane control, weaves, meltdowns, and more! learn.drexfactor.com/p/beyond-the-basics-of-poi-spinning

Dude having contrast between your poi and a darker background really helped. Thank you

That's great to hear! I've been experimenting with new shooting setups--do you like the way this one works?
@1989darrenw7 жыл бұрын
DrexFactor Poi from a visually impaired stand point it's much better. Contrast between the background and the poi makes a huge difference. I also love that you're very descriptive in your explanations. I would love to see another video on hyper loops like this. I have a very hard time understanding what's going on in that move

I'm glad you use your hands while you speak in your video, it really helps me understand what you're talking about by confusing and enraging me

I'm glad you left this comment! I might otherwise assume based upon the other responses that I'd provided some helpful tips and services. Now I can walk out into a blizzard and let myself die to keep my tribe from wasting precious resources keeping me alive. Wow, dodged a bullet there!

This was a really cool video, both background and poi visuals were awesome. In an audience these are definitely some of my favorite moves to see, they have such a naturtally cool movement, and you're right they are either neglected, or totally nasty when I see them performed.

and one of my favorites is the static vs. extension hybrid btb, like a btb weave

Also a great btb trick! My friend Christian used to do that one all the time back in the day :) Glad you like the shirt! It's from a company called Underrepped. I've also got one of their shirts for Ada Lovelace.

DrexFactor Poi your friend Christian as in Christian Medina? Aka insignia? ☺️

I learned atomics from his videos, probably sometime around 2006-2008, about the time you started with your tutorials. I think I saw your 20th tutorial live when you actually published it.

Omer Lewy Yup! Christian Medina. Great tech spinner and even sweeter guy :) He showed me my first atomics as well.

That stall, I snagged it from an old Russian poi mafia video. So so good!

Ha! That could be where Liz got it from, too. I just spotted her using it in a video in IG the other day and was like "that trick is awesome--what are some other btb tricks that look really cool?" And thus this video was born!

Who doesnt love behind the back tricks :3. A trick I've found to make things easier is to just close the eyes unless it's a throw. If you think of you brain processing power as being averaged between your senses, a trick that has essentially 0 value from sight would bring your average down. While if you eliminate the sight variable you make the average go up and thus the variables being used for the trick itself get more brain processing power. A+b+c+d+e ect/x = avg brain processing power. X being the total number of variables on the top of the equation. If the variable for sight doesnt hold a value greater than or equal to x, by eliminating it you make x 1 number smaller which makes the trick slightly easier. Maffs >.

I think it depends on the performer and their goals--I try to avoid closing my eyes while I spin because I want to make sure that when the time comes to perform I keep my eyes open and engaged with the audience. That said, I know a lot of people who prefer to spin by feel alone. My friend Charlie would actually make it a game to go out spinning fire blindfolded to try and get as deeply into his flow as possible. Cool exercise!

You should be fat with all that butter man. Another great vid. The contrasting BG helps loads btw.
@DrexFactor7 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it! This recording setup was a bit of an experiment. You think I should keep it?
@SmashFetus7 жыл бұрын
DrexFactor Poi i think it really depends on the type of video. Im a big fan of the scenic backgrounds you have in your other videos, especially with the choreography videos (the ridiculous thoughts vid wouldnt have been nearly as moving with a BG similar to this one). But for more tutorial based vids such as this it makes it much easier to follow.
