For me, with alien weaves, the “2 beat” side can actually be thought of as a 1 beat weave hand motion. Combining 3 beat and 1 beat gets you 2 beat, and we call it 2 beat hand motion instead of 1 beat since a 1 beat weave doesn’t exist. Combining two different hand motions can get a _ beat weave by taking the average between the hand motions, for example doing 1 beat hand motion on one side and 7 beat on the other gets you 4 beat, since the average between 1 and 7 is 4. Doing 5 on one side and 3 on the other is also a 4 beat weave, since the average between 3 and 5 is 4. If you do 7 beat on one side and 5 beat on the other, you get a 6 beat weave since the average between 5 and 7 is 6. If you do 9 beat on one side and 3 beat on the other, then you will be doing a 6 beat weave, since the average between 9 and 3 is 6 Also I never realized alien weaves had a name until this video, this whole time I’ve just been calling them a variation of _ beat weave.

Yo man you taught me to spin poi like 12 years ago when I was working graveyard as security 😂 needless to say I still spin today and have started looking at it as more of a workout. I've been getting into weighted clubs for muscle strength and it seems I have a distinct advantage having been a poi practitioner.. have you heard of other people exploring this? Seems like an amazing workout for those with a more active mind body connection. Thank you again!

Cool video, I'll have to try out the buzzsaw and introverted weaves! Might be a bit of a tangent, but antispin weaves are another pretty mind-bending trick that could technically count as a 3-beat.

It's true! I also didn't include atomic or isolated weaves here, either and I definitely could have. Maybe a follow-up?

I figured out the antispin weave a while ago, also an isolated 5 beat weave that I find a bit easier than the isolated 3 beat.

Everything but the inverted. First time seeing it, and excited to try and pick up something new! Thanks for all that you do.

Hey Drex love the tutorials! I do have a recommendation that would for sure help me and probably a lot of others as well. Could you have a first person view doing all these tutorials as well? Attach a camera to you neck or head! Iv seen some like that on other pages and they helped me tons. Keep up the great vids and you rock!

It's a great idea! I've already done it on many tutorials and will continue to do so for many in the future. Was there a specific weave from this video that you were hoping to get POV footage of? kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJO7nIpjr9xqnNk

This is definitely very cool only know how to do the basic 3 beat weave and archer weave. I definitely have to learn the other ones

That was very thorough!!!

Thank you very much! Of course, as of this morning I thought of another 2-3 variations I could have stuck in here but I'm happy with the picks I made as-is. 😂

I can do everything except the Alien Weave and now I'm stoked to try it out. I've never even seen that one. The asymmetry is really a facinating feature. I wonder how many asymmetric moves I've been missing ...

Btw, if you ever learn 7 beat, or maybe even 9 beat if you want to go that far, you can use those to make more alien weaves! 7 beat + 3 beat = 5 beat 7 beat + 2 beat = 4 beat 9 beat + 3 beat = 6 beat 9 beat + 2 beat = 5 beat And there are many more combinations! When getting the result, you just take the average of the two halves, except replace 2 beat with 1 beat. (2 beat weave can technically be thought of as half 3 beat and half 1 beat, but since 1 beat weave doesn’t exist, we call the half 2 beat)

youre great, and ive learned so much from your videos, but how do your new videos look like theyre 10 years old😂

My videos look damn good. If you disagree, leave me a link to a poi video that you think looks contemporary. 🤔

Alien weave looks like 2 beats with the native instead of non native hand, still 3 beats on each side.
@DrexFactor10 ай бұрын
Not sure how you're counting it, but I'm definitely seeing 3 beats for each hand. Right hand downbeats happen on the right side as the hand is curling around under the left, left side as one degree of twist is unwrapping, and right side as the hands separate. Left hand downbeats happen on the left side as the hands unwrap, right side as the right hand goes over it, and left side with the right hand curled around it. Weirdly, it switches the pattern from being two beats on the non-native side to being two beats on the native side for both hands.

Ah...hang on. I think you meant to say native vs non-native side rather than hand. Yeah, we're on the same page, then.
