Sealed Transfer - Fermentasaurus - Fermzilla - Fermenter King JR
See the transfer happens as the beer gets moved in an oxygen-free sealed transfer between two see-through vessels. In this example, I'm using the Fermzilla 27 liter and The 20-liter Fermenter King Junior. But the same applies To a Cornelius keg or any other pressurized vessels. Like Fermentasaurus, SS Brewtech Unitank and more.

Great! I just did it a few times in the keg and works fine. Thank you. But recently I think it is a worthy approach only to fermentasaurus due the hard way to take the lid off. The kegs are easy to take the lid off and put the solution into them. Also you can leave co2 on during procedure.

@DrHansBrewery

Either use a Tilt for montering FG. It will be affected by the pressure but you can still read when SG is steady. The cheaper method is to fill up a jar and shake out the co2.

I read an online "article" about the oxygen removal from a keg and it indeed confirmed that purging an empty keg wastes co2 hundreds of liters and the purging via removing the liquid takes only 20 liters. An interesting pickup from the article was that if you rout the co2 from the fermenter through the keg it purges it as well (or better if there is some sanitizer solution left in a steel keg for example) as the liquid purging method so just a tip if you want to try. Just attach the spundit to the keg gas out. 1.050 beer fermenting to 1.010 creates around 440 liters of co2 and with math on the safe side it leaves 5ppb (1:1000000000) O2 content to the keg when directed throug the keg through the whole fermentation process. Also a question about the closed transfer via gravity you mentioned. I thought that it would be the most economical and easy way but do you have any idea how much more longer does it take to fill a keg? Atleast it would be safe as no liquid would go through the spunding valve and possibly to the pressure gage if left unattended.
@aasiaasi
@aasiaasi 4 жыл бұрын
I would like to see this to happen! It would be an awesome experiment to have a small (2l) keg last in the CO2 link with some sort of oxygen meter. That way you 100% sure that there is no oxygen left in the previous vessels. In this link you can find information about different CO2 purge methods (must read): www.lowoxygenbrewing.com/brewing-methods/kegging-care-guide-purging-transferring-stabilizing-finished-beer/
@josbanse
@josbanse 4 жыл бұрын
@@aasiaasi this is the link I was referring to and the math gives very low numbers based on simple physics so in any case even with some standard deviation the oxygen level would be very low in the keg receiving the co2 from fermentation process. Actually with spunding valve without a pressurw gauge like the kegland blowtie you could calibrate the spunding valve with meter and then remove the meter and fill the first keg with star san solution and dump the star san through the spunding valve to a second keg which after full would just bubble the extra CO2. Then you would get best of both worlds by emptying a keg full of star san and then continuing the purging and when next keg in line is full, you could just disconnect and save the sanitizing solution. So many possibilities!
@JamesBailey123
@JamesBailey123 3 жыл бұрын
Can you explain the small pink bottle? It doesn't even look like it is built for pressure, looks more like a drink bottle, and yet it seems to absorb 20L of CO2 no problem, with a pressure lower than the other two kegs? How is this possible? Or is it just venting the CO2, in which case, what's the purpose? I think you called it a 'thermometer' at some point?
@DrHansBrewery
@DrHansBrewery 3 жыл бұрын
It's called a Fermonitor. It came with the spundit 1.0, the new Spundit 2.0 has a much smaller fermonitor. It's for reading the bubbles only. For monitoring the fermentation (Fermonitor). It does not absorb co2, its not a sealed vessel. I like to use it when transferring to read the transferring speed. At least read how much it bubbles. But it's not necessary. And in this case when you have to see through vessels you can actually watch the keg fill up and if it's foaming. But normally I transfer to a non see through vessel. Have a look at my Spundit 2.0 video and also the Perfect transfer video.

How much carbonation can you expect to get in the fermzilla? I mean, will you need to add a little extra in the keg later? Enough for a stout? Ipa? Lager? Only asking because my local dealer discouraged me from buying one for this feature...
@josbanse
@josbanse 4 жыл бұрын
Check a force carbonation chart on your fermenting temp and see how much pressure you need for the serving volumes of co2 and see if it is within the fermenter limits. 1bar/14 psi is about 2.5 volumes in fridge temps and in room temps 2.5 volumes is around 2bar/28psi so should not be a problem getting enough carbonation.
