Both men fought hard and showed great heart. DDP is champion caliber and fights like one. For me, it's like, Strickland won, but I can't definitively say that DDP lost. I know it doesn't make sense, but Sean doesn't deserve the loss, and DDP deserves the win, both at the same time.

I love DDP but the numbers make it very obvious. Significant strikes - Head: 157/387 for Sean and 81/283 for DDP, Body: 10/15 vs 32/37 (most were partially blocked jabs), Leg: 6/6 vs 24/34 but almost all of them were checked by Sean. DDP had less significant strikes, zero control time and less damage. Not to mention that historically the challenger has had to TAKE the belt, not barely make it through the fight while looking like a starving tribe mistook him for a pinata.

Fights are scored per round. all the higher sig strikes came from round one and 5 and the rest was even. strickland won those rounds, those dont carry over to the other rounds. Why does it matter how the face of a winner looks? Some people just show damage easier. That entire swollen eye was just from a single jab on round 1? Some people get slapped and start bleeding and swelling while other can take a kick to the face and have a light red mark. DDP won cause he took the fight to Sean, multiple takedown attempts, multiple kicks meanwhile Sean was on the backfoot the entire fight just playing the counter game. I honestly thought it was going to be a doctor stoppage in the 3rd or 4th round with his eye getting swollen shut. It was close to that but luckily for him he was able to do enough to not let it get to that. The takedowns had to have been what got it for him but with these close championship fights there seems to be a lot of factors that can be subject to change as well.
