I am South African, and when I first watched the fight I had it for Strickland. There are close rounds though, there is no robbery here, just difference of opinions. They never went any past the takedown itself and he was ~50% so some of them got stuffed. Also, go look at the official numbers before you say something dumb like jabs aren't powerful or whatever. Jabs are one of the cornerstones of any fight. By your logic, DDP's takedowns were worth about 8 significant strikes. In other words, you're trying to tell me that 6 takedowns are worth about 40 significant strikes? I don't know if you know how the scoring works but go look at the UFC's official page with this knowledge in mind, significant strikes are strikes that make the opponent visibly react, as in their head gets jarred from a punch, or it causes visible damage, like a cut or lump. You're going on about not wanting to get double legged by DDP but I'll take the 1 takedown to 8 significant strikes any day. That's how skewed those judges were.. they went ahead and recorded all the data for you then ignored it. Go look at the UFC official numbers of that fight.

DDP got our struck, got 50/50'd on takedowns and the successful takedowns were stood up immediately, no position was ever advanced and no threat of a submission was ever available. DDP also took more damage and was visibly more marked up after the fight. In a split decision fight, against an incumbent champ no less, it comes down to who did more. By the numbers Sean absolutely did more. The judges have him at 3 out of 5 rounds and arguably 4 out of 5 but he for sure did enough to win against a challenger who had less strikes thrown and less significant strikes landed.

Like I initially stated, Sean has just one style of fighting, throwing 1,2 punches, so I'm not surprised he lost it, cause his opponent uses his legs, He wrestles, we saw him do the 'turn around' elbow hits, and even bleeds Sean in round four with it.. It was a close one, but the person who puts in his all, took the day.

I’ve watch Multiple times and had Strickland 4 to 1. Strickland picked Dricus apart the first 3 rounds and nothing hit Sean clean. Everything was blocked or checked. Dricus got a desperation takedown, but nothing was done and Sean got right back up! Dricus caught Sean in the 4th and cut him above the eye. That blood in Sean’s eyes was problematic and he lost that round, but once cleaned up, he came back and won 5 easily! Dricus’s face looked like battered hamburger and Strickland other then the cut, looked untouched. Strickland may lose a rematch, but he won this fight hands down!

@@mrmolloy “same strikes” is fake, the stats are wrong. Almost all of du plessis strikes were narrowly blocked or dodged, and the majority of the low kicks were checked. The takedowns matter for nothing, Sean’s ability to work back up to his feat nullify them completely because Dricus did no damage on the ground. If he ended any round on top of Sean, i would be more willing to concede. The more impactful strikes of the round were landed by Sean, as can be seen at the start of round 3 where Dricus face is busted up and he looks like sloth from the goonies, while Sean looks fresh and undamaged

I always flip flop on the scorecards when I watch it back but I feel either result is fair, anyone saying Strickland "CLEARLY" won is just a Strickland fan, it's not a "robbery" which is an incredibly overused term and it was a very close fight but I generally go R1 & R5 Strickland. R2 & 3 are very close but I think R3 is more of a swing round than R2. Both deserved to win and I understand the argument that it's a championship fight but at the end of the day, you can't simply favour the champion in a close decision just because he holds the belt. The fight has to be scored fairly and equally to Champion and Challenger, "doing enough" to win the belt leaves the result open to unnecessary ambiguity as well as corruption. I much prefer Strickland over Du Plessis and there are absolutely arguments for either fighter to have won, but in this case you have to accept the result as is seeing as it was so close.

DDP won in my eyes as a Strickland fan. Sean won rounds 1 and 5. DDP won rounds 2, 3 and 4. It was super close. If you understand the rules and scoring criteria, damage is the number 1 criteria. Sean's rounds were easy to score based on volume AND damage. DDP had some nice takedowns and was dishing out the more damaging blows. I hope DDP buries Izzy and we get to see the rematch. Great fight.

yes, the takedown in round 2 gave him the win in that round because neither were being to active in round 2 so Du Plessis gets the takedown wins the round, and he was also way more active in 3 and 4, gave a right hook that left strickland bleeding all over from his eye, got a couple more takedowns, easy to score, i dont know why people say robbery, im a big strickland fan also and i've watched this fight like 5 times now just to see if the judges were right, and they were, Round 1 and Round 5 are for Strickland, 2, 3 and 4 are for Du Plessis, 3-2 Du Plessis in the end.

If strickland didn't say what he said during the press conference pre fight, he would have won that fight. When you have morals, and call people out, you have to get that knockout, or make it such a one sided fight that the judges have no choice but to declare you a winner, since it was so close, they stole that from him. Strickland played it too safe and was stuck in 1st gear the entire fight and really only showed up in the last 40 seconds of the final round. His best and only weapon was his jab which did nothing more than mark up DDP's face instead of actually hurting him or putting him on the backfoot. DDP was so much more daring and active and showed a variety of arsenal. His fitness was excellent to keep up that pace of aggression and dictate the fight for so long.

At 2:55 Du Plessis lands a nice kick to the right side of Strickland. If you watch carefully, Strickland's defensive instinct is to bring his right hand up and tighten his bicep into his torso as part of his unique philly shell.
