a small reference to the Cathedral and the Bazaar in the end would have topped it off! Great talk @dries

So are these recipies only starshot compatible or also drupal core? I want to continue using only Drupal core but start using recipies with it.
@RyanPrice3 ай бұрын
Yes Recipes are universally available, any up to date Drupal site can take advantage. There are some good podcasts out there that go in depth about creating and using them.

I've been using Drupal since version 5, mostly without writing modules, and I'm very, very disappointed. You would have done better to invest in rewriting the documentation and the detailed presentation of certain modules, or even to invest in KZbin to make quality tutorials. Example Views allows you to do so much without coding, but the documentation is terribly lacking and the community only exists on private channels! I think that using this product will add to the complexity if you need a functionality that isn't covered. In the end, it will be a prison, and this product will be just as complex to develop as the Core.

i like the part with the crowd applauding not needing developers in a developer community. love it lol.

Oh no, first i was looking so forward to the bright future it seemed that Drupal would have. But now that it's going to be built on React i'm out. Drupal already doesn't have the best code quality, but now this ugly JavaScript / HTML mix, i'm out. Going to need a new CMS. And he's also hoping to attract Javascript developers. Why? 99% of react developers are script kiddies who don't have a clue about real programming. Why not use Angular / TypeScript? Or just stay with PHP? This is so unbelievable bad. This is going to kill Drupal.

This is an utterly absurd comment. I can only assume you’re trolling. Pearl clutching over the choice of JavaScript frameworks? 😂

@@jimmytyphoon Why a JavaScript framework at all? Drupal was perfect as it was.

This is absolute nonsense. Complete and utter nonsense. You're either a troll or an idiot. Not entirely sure which. "99% of react developers are script kiddies who don't have a clue about real programming" - did you honestly think this through before posting it? Grow up.

React has been used on the Drupal front-end for years - there's nothing new about that. It works well, but is part of the growing trend that website development is entirely led by 'creative' design and front-end gimmicks. Drupal used to be a CMS for Managing Structured Content, but it has progressively become a dump for unstructured wysiwyg content and visual layout. And then we have to migrate this content soup from multiple previous sites into a new 'shiny' one!
@JasynL197717 күн бұрын
@ACRead I was fully on board with Starshot and the updates in the presentation-until he mentioned Experience Builder. I’ll reserve judgment for now, but in my experience, this trend has been chaotic for the websites I manage. Most content teams already struggle with managing content effectively, so giving them free rein over layout often leads to unstructured, inconsistent results. This undermines the core value of Drupal’s content types, which set it apart from WordPress’ page/menu model. I’m not convinced that competing with Wix is a viable long-term strategy. Drupal’s strength has always been in structured content, which benefits larger, more complex sites. From his remarks on the need for additional documentation, it’s clear this approach could make the platform even harder to maintain. I understand the push to win back users who’ve shifted to simpler platforms, but it’s unclear whether that audience will return in numbers significant enough to justify sacrificing Drupal’s edge in the enterprise market. The devil's in the details--and the execution. At the same time, Drupal needs to offer a better trade-off when compared to building static websites. The added complexity can make even minor application-level changes take longer to deploy. The more bloated Drupal becomes-and the more complex it is to document and maintain-the harder this trade-off is to justify.

Why is this presentation so sexist? Where are the women developers and the male marketers?
@bevansbench3 ай бұрын
There are 3 people represented here. 2 of them, a male and a female on equal footing, arguably marketing is way more prestigious than a developer (seriously, developers are the trades people of the IT world), and the other, a female, is in a leadership position.
