the only change is how consumers get robbed - massive costincrease for no added value. as for raw materials, they will simply sell it to a company in a country that is not tariffed, and buy it to the us there. and the other way around. money has no alliegence and doesnt play politics like this. they will still add the tariffcost however, as the market is preparred to pay it.

Golden era in USA and Canada where under tariffs. Free exchanges impoverish it's population and exploded 30 000% the transfer of money to billionaires that can play free exchanges rules to impoverish (eliminate) the middle class. I am an active 80-year-old and still have a good memory. I am a Veteran and retired business owner. I remember 1992 when Ross Perot, (Independent) Bill Clinton, (Democrat), and George Bush, (Republican) were running for president. During that period Democrats and Republicans were touting how wonderful Globalization would be for America. Ross ran on a platform against NAFTA, (Mexico/Canada trade agreement) the first step into globalization. He said, if the Bill before Congress was passed, it would create a giant sucking sound as our jobs and industry would leave this country. I have witnessed that truth firsthand and observed how it has slowly destroyed the middle class. I am an independent voter who votes for the man and his/her policies, not the party. This comment has nothing to do with politics, it's about policy and my fear for the future of American workers.

Do you think that something, especially in internationa politics, will be given for free, or no benefits will come for paying more? Are you really that stupid? For example, do you know why the US paid more at the WHO? Dear citizens of the United States, all you will pay will be 35% of the tariffs that Mexico will charge for the raw materials that the US sends to Mexico for the manufacture of American products that are made in Mexico, apart from that, you will pay for the labor and then add the 25% that Trump will charge Mexico for exporting the entire product to the United States, that is already 60% of tariffs plus labor and since most people normally buy on credit 💳, they will also pay more interest. Yes the prices are going to be very expensive for those who live in the United States. And now with China raising their 75% tariffs to the United States. Thank your Trump for that.

A Great Depression, one would even say a Tremendous Depression. Tremendous. Such a beautiful word. Many people are saying that it would be the biggest - and you know me, I like big things - the biggest depression in many years, many many years. Perhaps even the biggest depression in history. Sleepy Joe couldn't create a depression as big as mine. Mine would be absolutely huge, so huge, and it would be a wonderful thing to see. Such a wonderful thing to see, believe me.

China's restrictions on the export of rare earth metals to the U.S. is not "threatening" U.S. manufacturing. It has already created significant slowdowns and bottlenecks in many sectors, particularly in the production of highly advanced defense systems such as the F-35. At a time when the U.S. really needs to ramp up its military production to match China's amazing production capacity, America finds itself increasingly unable to produce top end weapons, because of the lack of these rare earth metals, like Garium, Germanium, and Antimone. The U.S. has long used sanctions and trade restrictions to control and hurt other countries. In China, they've found an opponent that is ready and able to hit back, hurting the U.S. in return.

Tariffs are always a bad idea. Here's an idea, try working with each other, not against each other, This will create more solutions than problems

8:03 - Diplomacy? When was the US ever good at that? The US foreign policy is the classic example - do what we tell you or else. People are fed up of it now and the revolution is not many years away.

They americans abandoned diplomacy in the 70s, probably completely in the 90s when it became the single superpower in the world.

Trump's approach to diplomacy would never result in a "win-win situation". Trump's idea of how diplomacy should end is "I-win-you-lose".

That is way China is now the dominant power in Africa. China diplomacy is "can we have a win-win situation here?' African says yes, china says how much money uou need, African replied i need several millions for this project, china signs the check and few years later thete is a bridge, road high speed train... European and usa will come in and ask you to adpot their policies before signing any checks, African leaders looked for different solutions and China was the first followed by Morocco and UAE...al investing in Africa under the win-win unmberlla

Not only do we not have industrial infrastructure, we have an almost non-existent workforce. None of the slugs in this country want to do any real work anymore. Absolutely pathetic.

They sent manufacturing out of the country to improve their profits. Saying that nobody wants to work is simply blaming the victims of this policy. The Auto Pac between Canada and the US worked well for years but they had to fool with it to pay Mexican wages but not lower prices. The Detroit Area was the world leader in car production but was almost wiped out by idiots.

@@bayboybob those two this don't have to be mutually exclusive. Of course that happened, adding MX into Free Trade was dumb. Free Trade works between countries of equivalent standards of living. Period. I think what's op was saying is that the younger work force today would have no interest in an industrial job, or a construction one, or picking crops or working in a factory. They're soft. Not all of them, but enough to make it laughable anyone would think you could create a self sufficient nation on the backs of those useless twats. lol

It doesn't matter. The plan isnt to keep buying cheap junk from China. The plan is to go back to being self sufficient and buy made in the USA products that last. Anyone old enough knows what Im talking about.

That's not possible. The materials needed are not all found in the USA. When the USA was a a totally local economy was never. We have always replied on foreign materials.

Yes, that goal can be achived, but the US has shifted from an industrial power house to a country controlled by financial and rent seeking companies. Changing the mentality will not happen just by rising tariffs.

Tariffs have no place in an era of the global supply chain - no country can insulate themselves with tariffs without dire consequences.
