DRIFTA - EPIC CUSTOM CANOPY BUILD

Check this out - totally custom build into a Tommy canopy! Came to us as an empty shell...we fitted bar fridge, kitchen, 2 storage cupboards, 5 storage drawers, 2 x 125 Safiery LITHIUM batteries, 3 x Redarc 150W solar panels, 2 x Scirocco wall fans, water pump, heaps of power outlets and lights. Brilliant build - heaps of fun :)

All looks very neat but I think the aluminum fit out from Tommy Campers would be lighter and it also looks great and is very practical, we've just ordered the S6 (larger) version.

Beechy... I think you have discovered Luke’s next development/reiteration of the WUHT. There is definitely a market for tray tops and many on the market aren’t as good as that. I recon if you adapted the Drifta RTT, integrated a 270 degree awning, swap the bar fridge for a drop slide arrangement but basically stick the the rest, including the rear seat option, you’d be on a winner.

From another BT owner, very epic fitout indeed Beechy! What a fabulous use of literally all available space. Love that pop out step/mini table. Just one little worry and I feel that the fuse box should be covered up so the bored puppy doesn't get stuck in to it, lol! Perhaps you just didn't show the cover, but that would be my recommendation.

The Dual cab Tommy Camper Dry Weight is 320kg. + 150kg for the two 75L tanks. They'd still have 600kg + or - to play with.

Looks great with some innovative ideas as usual from the Drifta team. Have to say all this could have been fabricated in aluminium and the weight saving would be astronomical. Time for an experienced cad designer to join your team guys. Shoot me a message if you’re looking to go down this path.

Was thinking that aswell. Also thinking about removing the rear seats for the box out section. That's actually illegal in Australia to change the seating occupancy stated on the vehicles spec plate ( same plate that states GVM ), even if you are going down in the number of seats. I had no idea ages ago and tried to get my local 4wd installation place to build me something for the rear and they wouldn't touch it for those legal reasons. Weird that Beechy did in this video but then also made a cut out for the dog clips to go through to keep that part legal haha.

@@1989cranston Not sure about the other states but you can legally remove seats from Victorian registered vehicles. Refer to www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/vehicle-modifications-and-defects/vehicle-modifications/removing-adding-and-replacing-seats

A dual cab (not towing) has the usual 1000kg payload, so GVM is usually manageable, unlike the typical station wagon. Main issue is trying to get most of that weight forward of the rear axle. Removal of seats is fine in most states as long as the seatbelts remain installed and the seats are easily refitted with standard tools. There are a million 4wd station wagons out there with rear seats removed.
