I feel the same way man, Hot Wheels produces a *ton* of stuff, wich makes it very hard to keep up with! Nowadays, i mainly focus on the Car Culture and Boulevard Series with the occasional Team Transport set if i really want it. Getting them all is a challenge by itself, so i have to be selective. And RLCs are cool and all, but with the money spent on these you could get models with way better detail from brands like Mini GT, Tarmac Works and Inno64. Thanks for making this vid.

I have just stopped collecting them and went to inno64, tarmacworks, street weapon ect because the prices are similar and better details with nice displays, and they feel more worth it when i find the one i want because they are usually limited, i like hotwheels still and will be picking the odd one up here and there if they meet my expectations that im looking for, but im not as interested now and wish to figure out how to get them sold but i have no clue how to do all that, so they are all sitting in a box until i eventually decide to go to one of those car boot sales and hope the collectors come to me. You are right with some points. Hot Wheels has always been considered as the brand that started diecast collecting for me. Now I started to become picky with Hot Wheels like there are repeated models that they produce. Now I collect only the cars I like and it really is hard to keep up with so many releases. I always look at Hot Wheels as my base but I am already into other brands like Mini Gt, Tarmac Works and Autoworld. Just go for things that you like

I agree, I started with Hot Wheels but then kind of grew out of them when I noticed the other brands you mentioned. After I got my first Autoworld, my first Greenlight and then found Mini GT and Inno 64, Hot Wheels just lost alot of their appeal. Granted I buy far fewer at a time when it comes to those more premium brands but they just all looks so much better than anything Hot Wheels produces.

You can see it as trying to "milk us" or simply providing some collectors with what they want. I stick with the mainlines , because they have the best variety of licensed and Hot Wheels original castings, and I'm constantly thinking I hope Mattel releases this and that car in case F and G and so fourth. This year they started the "Let's Race" series in the mainline so I'll be hunting those down because they bring back a lot of castings from 2010s era. It's like everyone says Buy what you want, Buy what you like, and enjoy the hobby.

Well as i said sometime ago, creating hypes and supporting scalpers are their apparent strategy. They create cheap product then depends on the idea of investment to keep you buying them. The cycle will never end which is why i stopped collecting hot wheels.

New collector, I have collected other stuff. It's always the same. The main problem is the th, sth. It's bad enough that they don't make it to the pegs. They also mess up the cards. And most leave a big mess. I already know I'll never find a th. Let alone a sth. They should just mail them to the back of the store and leave them out of the box. That's what happens anyway. Every where I go 200 miles around me. There all raided. There's no chance at all. The thing about it is hw knows. Tells you all you need to know about hw. 😮

I buy hotwheels for their designs, not for their collections brother, get hotwheels that u love, not for collections, or else all collectors will become mindless i only collect a premium hotwheel once per year( sometimes i go on a budget of 25$ for 4 premiums), and i collect the one i love the most because, when u collect ur most favourite one, u dont need the other hotwheels much also great news, I AM GETTING ELITE 64 LAMBORGHINI LBWK AT MY BIRTHDAY JAN 1ST!!!

I recently found out your channel. I have been collecting hot wheels since childhood and have a crap ton of them. As an Indian, there isn't a dearth of Hot wheels, but nowadays they have ten folded their prices from 10-50 Indian rupees to 100-500 Indian rupees!! Amazon in particular has inflated the prices so much here. Tomica on the other hand still has consistent prices online. Wish the prices come back to normal at retails.

I think the key is to just buy the cars you like and avoid getting suckered into collecting complete sets, just to have the set. I think Hot Wheels made far less profit last year so a mass re-issuing policy was to expected. Vote with your wallets and enjoy your hobby.

acceleracers collector here, I mainly have to wait for someone good faith that they put the car you want at a price you can buy it and these arent premium, they painted is so well made that if fools you into thinking it is a metal/metal casting when it is not.

I started collecting like 6 months ago. (I'm a lose collector) First only bought mainlines based on me liking the car IRL (Blind collecting) But now i have a couple premiums and 2 mainline+ cars (F&F nissan 2000 gtr and that cream datsun 510 from the hot wagons set. They look so freaking nice for €4) I realized i hate the missing rear and/or front tampos on the mainlines and a lot of my mainlines are now in a box. Im only going to collect the nice mainlines with full tampos and the nice premiums that i really like. I think the hype of finding a mainline I've wanted made me not look at the lack of details and i end up buying it became it's "rare" and when i oorn it up and look at it it ends up in the box of "meh" cars a couple weeks later Gonna branch out to mini gt and kaido house. They look so clean and i dont have to find a clean color hotwheels version of it online and overpay for a $1 car :D

Honestly I’m just collecting cars that I like cuz I don’t think actual cars are worth investing in. Petrol, maintenance, road tax, tire puncture, car crash, car modification is just 💸💸💸 plus cars are a depreciating asset. So that’s why I decided to get into hot wheels. Cheaper alternative 😅

It's disingenuous to blame a company for behaving like they primarily want your money; of course they do, that's what they are for. I do think they are hurting themselves with their distribution practices, though. The whole 'send them out only in randomised boxes' is just stupid and results in shops not being able to sell cars nobody wants, so they don't restock and maybe just stop selling them altogether. So that shops can buy in what they think will actually sell, they should split the mainline into three: fantasy cars (the 'animals with wheels' and 'toilet on wheels' stuff), plausible but unreal cars (like the El Segundo Coupe or Bone Shaker) and the real licensed cars. They should offer packs of individual specified cars from every series on amazon (and/or local equivalent) for preorders, then available for reordering for a year. No reason not to also do the random cases for physical shops if they want, but I bet sales would improve if shops could tailor their orders. I would also rather they did fewer variations of any given car, especially the ones that are exclusive to this or that shop in the US. Rather than 250 cars a year, do 150 chosen more carefully and sold more specifically and in numbers that respond to demand. I have still never seen a LBWK Skyline R34 in stock anywhere; this is clearly a bestseller so just MAKE MORE OF THEM. Not different variations, the original one that people really like. I don't need three variants of a design per year. Equally, though, collectors need to be sensible. It's just a hobby. You don't _need_ to have every variant of a model (you _can_, the point is, you don't have to) to be a 'real collector'. Hot Wheels collecting is not a dick measuring contest and feeling inadequate or whatever because you weren't lucky enough to buy a rare toy that's been artificially made rare to milk you for your cash is not a sensible reaction. Just get the things you like that are within your reach. And don't fucking buy every one the shop has and then resell them for a markup. That is bastard behaviour, not collector behaviour. That makes it worse for everyone. Buy ONE.

In fact, Drifter D showed how Mattel simply exploits Hot Wheels in order to make money on new series. It would be better if instead of offshoots of new series, they would bring these models into the old ones, or simply leave what they already have. I was just tired of watching them go up in price that I started collecting KO Lego or KO Transformers (On the scale of HW).

I feel the same and I live in Europe, specifiically in Hungary and half of these hot wheels releases not come to hungarian retailers only resellers and some hobby webshops import them... so its like 50-70 usd / a 5 set of premiums and even main line hot wheels are like 2-3-4 dollars in regular stores. Joke... not to mention a 25-30 dollar rlc will be like 45-50 up on arival because of shipping + import fees. For maine line cars basically you have 0 chance to find an sth or a popular mainline even XD and you can buy it from scalpers for 8-10 dollars. So I dont give a sh*t about them anymore. I only buy what i can get for retail and i always try to trade or sell them to get the car i want...

If only they'd improve Premium's QC and make better mainline series...That'd be enough for me, and a lot of people. You know how hard it is here in EU to collect mainlines when you only have one case per month that contains 2 of highly-wanted models? And if the shop puts more cases, guess what happens? The bins and pegs get overflowed with unwanted fantasy / badly executed licensed models and we have delayed deliveries. For example, we had J cases in supermarkets recently. People looked up store's listings of new items, got to the shops a day before the drop, right before closing (restock for the next day), and got everything good out of them. x0 RX7 FD, x0 P1. I really don't get it. Parents don't buy tons of fantasy cars, maybe a few for very young kids, all teenagers and adults who are into cars go for licensed. Why not just cut the fantasy cars to 1 per case and increase licensed to 3, 2 minimum? Seriously, they would make more money by better sales rather than cheaping out to meet the case value maximum.

News flash, you don't have to buy everything. Less is more, focus on what you like and its that simple. Re-releases of the same car? You don't have to buy it. The sad excuse of saying Hotwheels are milking collectors is ludicrous. They're not holding you at gun point to buy their newest cars. If your excuse is that you're a "collector" and you have to have it all, you need a reality check. You can't have it all. Someone likes that 6 pack while you don't.
