Thank you very much for this video. Finally something different than every KZbinr who flies to Japan. It is always a repeating pattern, drifting on ebisu, life in the city and so on. It's terribly boring. When you see it again and again. You even see the same cars every time you come to Japan. Visiting Tsukuba or other tracks and showing time attack - which is an increasingly popular field - you can count on one finger the number of times someone showed it, as well as visiting such workshops. Everyone always shows what everyone has already seen and what "clicks" well, e.g. hks Thank you very much for showing these little-known places, because they usually work in silence, and the effects are amazing.

If you are used to the Yen prices over the years these cars are still soooo expensive. For the locals it must be wild to see an NA s14 considered cheap not too long ago a turbo one would have been half the price. It will be interesting to see what happens once the Yen starts to go the other way. International demand has to be keeping these propped up.

Fun Fact: RC Drift Drivers are somehow like sim driver. The crazy thing is that i've done a lot of RC drifting and then i bought a miata AND a sim.. The first time i tried to drift it was so natural 'cause i knew exactly what was goin on. Also Mitto Steel was into rcdrifting AND drift (you can see in the Outsiders doc). Also Tetsujin is a RC Drift company that now has a JZX that runs in the formula drift jp.

I'm a brit (who might be moving to my wifes home county of Donegal in the next 5 years) so i don't really know how the whole VRT thing works other than you guys unfortunately get screwed on seemingly everything except electric and phev cars. But Dave was saying the AE86 was €15-16.5k on the road? Do you not have to pay VRT once the car is beyond a certain age? I thought it like doubled the price, is that onl modern, high emissions stuff? @@bigfatnick Its a rolling 30 year rule. So if you import a 1994 car next year (2024) it will qualify for classic/vintage VRT. And just something else you might want to consider, since I'm assuming you are living in the UK? You can take your car in without having to pay VRT, once you can prove to Revenue that its your own personal car, that you've owned it for a while etc. Have receipts and invoices for old MOT's, service records...You will also not be able to sell it for a defined amount of time, could be 6 months/year. I would look into the specifics as its been a while since I've dealt with that whole VRT system/payments. So if you happened to have a Lamborghini Aventador for example, you could take it into Ireland, register it and not have to pay any VRT 😉

@@driftgames_life and then you have the insanely narrow minded, inefficient, scarily overpriced, some might suggest corrupt Irish insurance industry which will bend you over and go in dry without buying you dinner first(if they did, they'd hand you the bill). Then you have SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) who have a lot of lobbying power. They largely drove the massive VRT price hikes in the mid 00's because Japanese imports in Ireland were huge from the late 90's on(not just the 'cool' stuff) and many wanted to buy higher specced, better condition cars than the local all too often "Paddy spec" versions the SIMI members were flogging. They pushed stories in the media about how they were unsafe, easy to steal etc, couldn't be traced, linked to organised crime etc. They tried similar when folks then started importing UK cars. SIMI members likely orgasmed en masse when Brexit happened. There's been a more recent uptick in Japanese imports of 'ordinary' cars and already the same media stuff about traceability and "all are easy to steal" is trickling through. TL;DR? Ireland has a _lot_ of true blue petrolheads with a load of remarkable cars in sheds and garages throughout the country, but the car industry and the government are anything but car friendly.

prices are going to keep coming down, the US is heading for the next depression - (worser than a recession) so prices will keep falling for the next 4+ years, that will be the time to buy, the value of the cars in japan is dependant of the demand from the US market, if it gets bad in the US then its going to have a knock on effect around the world

That might happen and US interest _definitely_ has an effect. Prices can be insane over there and sites like BAT haven't helped. I'd also suggest dodgy dealers/sellers in the US preying on some buyer's ignorance of actual prices in Japan(and elsewhere) didn't help. I'd also suspect some Japanese sellers realising some Western buyers would pay a 1000 quid or more for a "JDM" bumper that they could get locally for a couple of 100, so now that bumper 'became' 1000 quid, drove some of the rise too, and who could blame them. Or it could be down to the covid effect which saw all sorts of collector bubbles, the people in the bubbles were convinced wasn't one(as usual). EG the Rolex watch bubble a very good example. That effect is over now and 'values' have dropped across the board. JDM cars will likely deflate too. Though it'll take a while as people (IMHO) paid way over the odds for certain cars, some were the usual 'investors' and they won't want to sell below what they paid and lose their shirts. They'll hold out as long as they can. Going by other bubbles when you see any Big Names selling off parts or most of their collection, that's just before the rush starts.
