Drifting Off With Joe Pera is an evening comedy podcast from comedian Joe Pera and composer Ryan Dann. With low-key jokes, immersive soundscapes, and relaxing phone conversations, Joe’s narration and Ryan’s sound design will help you unwind and perhaps even fall asleep.
Featuring guest composers and interviews with interesting folks, the podcast will be released on the first Sunday of every month. Sorry, it's not more often but this is the fastest we can do thoughtful, quality work.

I would absolutely love a show in the style of Mr.Rodgers Neighborhood with Joe Pera flavor. I Love your content and so do my younger siblings it’s so warm and wholesome and it’s exactly what the world needs right now. Everything going on is like flaming hot Cheetos and your content is the warm glass of milk with fresh baked snickerdoodle cookies. Keep up the good work Joe.

Considering how transient people in this city are and the fact that each of us sees many faces that we'll never see again when we go out anywhere, it's possible that everyone in NYC has seen many ghosts without ever realizing it.

My mom grew up in Alton, IL which is across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. It has a reputation of being one of the most haunted towns in the Midwest. She claimed to have seen a ghost orb floating down the street when she and a friend were camping in the backyard (it faces the street where she saw the orb). I know that's not an exciting ghost story but it's worth looking up other weird stuff about Alton.

The 188? house I live in had ghosts for decades, but they left around Thanksgiving last year. I enjoyed their company, a woman and some children. My dogs dug up a hole in the backyard in the shape of a body that might have landed in a hole, kind of sprawled out. I won't let them dig any deeper, or we might find the husband/dad.

There's a specific aesthetic when it comes to horror media that, as far as I know, doesn't have a specific name. I might be the pioneer of categorizing the genre. It's specifically horror media that doesn't shy away from being effectively horrifying - either through genuinely scary visuals, blood/gore, heavy topics etc. while also being very gentle and loving. I don't have a name for it yet, been agonizing over it for a long time. When I listened to the story of your friend being scared of the shadow boy, all I could think about is how bad I felt for the shadow boy. Someone was so scared of him, which might've scared him too. I wonder what would've happened if you reached your hand out to him instead of hiding. I think we should all be nicer to ghosts, more accepting, less scared. Maybe they're all misunderstood. After all, fear is born from the unknown.
@piroshi3rd

Some examples of media that I think portray this unnamed subgenre really well; -Undertale (video game) -Deadly Premonition (video game) -To some extent, Twin Peaks (TV show) I think a major contributing factor to it is the blend of comedy and horror. But it also needs to be very humane and relaxing.
@piroshi3rd
@piroshi3rd 5 ай бұрын
Psychologically self-analyzing as well. Deadly Premonition, for example, stars a character who is effectively "insane" by definition of modern societal conservative standards, but his lack of sanity not only helps him in solving murders, it comforts and psychologically supports him in an ultimately healthy way. Depending on how you play it, Disco Elysium is absolutely in this genre too.
