Differences from the final game: - Everyone speaks in Text-to-speech as the voice actors had not been hired yet. -The lip syncing in the binocucom scene is absent. -Octavio is referred to as 'The Lion Boss' - implying his name had not been finalized at this point during production. -Speaking of which, Octavio is drastically different here from his final design. -Sly says "Don't worry Bentley, those guys [the guards] will have no idea its me." in this demo. In the final build of the game, Sly instead says "No problem, Segnore" in his Italian Accent. -The password prompt is incomplete. The guard doesn't say anything (Eg: "Halt! Give me the cafe password!"), and its a simple repeat-after-the-prompt game. Bentley doesn't say anything here like he does in the game. -Both the tar pump and Canal chase sequences are missing. -There is no dialogue before and after the Opera singing sequence (maybe they hadn't finalized the dialogue at this point?), just some awkward camera shots. -The Opera music is played on Piano instead of orchestra instruments. -Bentley strangely falls silent on the final 'La' during the Opera Singing sequence for unknown reasons. -There is more dialogue in the final game before Octavio triggers the demolition switch. Here, he just says one thing before activating the switch. -Murray is not in his Aboriginal training outfit here (aside from his fossil necklace). -When the buildings are being demolished, four cahracter's sprites from the set-up/getaway cutscenes are shown. These are absent in the cutscene's appearance in the final game. Oddly, bentley's sprite is based on his Sly 2 apperance, not Sly 3. - Bentley's line "You Monster! Stop it! Stop IT!!" is missing. In the final game, he gets knocked out of his wheelchair after speaking the aforementioned line. -Sly's line (from the beta) "Murray, look at this disgrunted opera singer is doing. Innocent people are getting hurt!", while the camera is still focused on Bentley (who is still in his wheelchair here) and Octavio is approaching at a distance. In the final, right after Bentley is knocked out of his wheelchair, Sly says "Murray, I need your help. I've never seen someone [Octavio] move that fast. Octavio's old but he's still got it. Let's take him together." -Murray's (then-unseen) Guru is called the Swami here. Most of his dialogue in this passage still remains unchanged, except for "B..but" and "...and the water is still black!" Afterwards (in this video), Octavio knocks Bentley out of his chair. -In this video, Murray snaps after seeing Octavio knock Bentley out of his chair and says"Now I'll finish you once and for-" before Murray interrupts him. In the final, Bentley is still out of his wheelchair as Octavio mocks Murray for 'being scared' ("You're right to be scared, hippo. Your wheelchair friend shoulda been so smart") as Bentley calls for help, infuriating Murray. -In this video, Murray breaks his fossil necklace after threatening to 'floss his teeth with [Octavio]'s spine'. In the final, the order is reversed. -In the final, the fight begins after Murray's line "'The Murray' Returns!". During the fight, Sly will tell you to lure Octavio into the tar pit. In this pre-build, in the cutscene before the fight, Sly (somehow using Bentley's font color in the subtitles) tells you what to do. -The boss fight was not yet coded, resulting Octavio running around the map, as Gou points out. -Octavio's "You may have more tar" line is slightly longer in the final draft. "Listen to the song of your death" is absent here. -Murray is silent in the 2nd phase of the fight - his "'The murray' knows no song, but the triumphant horn section of his own triumph!" didn't come until the final draft. After Murray's line, Octavio tells him to shut up and die. -Bentley is seen moving around during the tar pit scene in front of the police station, even though he's still supposed to be on the ground after getting knocked off his chair. This implies SLY was supposed to be KO'ed.

My assumption is that Sly was originally going to be the one knocked out for the final fight of act 1. Most likely changed because it lacked the same emotional pull between Bentley and Murray.

Seeing Murray here jump in the INSTANT Bentley gets knocked down, no hesitation, is… oddly more satisfying? I understand it lacks some of the tension, but at the same time feels more true to Murray’s guilt over Bentley’s condition. I think the response would be almost automatic at that point.

Between sly 2 and sly 3 cut content or prototype version, some of the old ideas that didn't make it I think they were better. Like having tutorial in the episode, or some of the guards design are way better ideas. Even the "Ottavio is so fast and strong he beated Sly, therefore Murray's strength and Bentley's Brain are needed to beat him" it's very interesting. I didn't know about any of this before, I'm glad I'm discovering it in these days.

Unfortunately, The Sly Collection is currently not on the PS4. Hopefully soon, we can get both The Sly Collection and Sly 4 in one collection to the PS4.
