He was crushing his front bumper into james deanes rear bumper on transition. The way they build the front ends and rear ends it's basically just a super flexible bumper with little to know metal there to get caught up, makes wall rides safer.

that's because if you watch very closely the chase car is predicting and timing their transition to happen ever so slightly earlier than the lead car, this works because every driver on grid (that qualified) knows the line that is expected to be driven in lead so the chase car knows where the lead car should theoretically be at all times. When you start getting closer to the finals the skill level of the drivers starts to even out, so the chase car has to start taking more risks knowing the lead car will be exactly where they are supposed to be and thus you have battles like this..

Basically the angle you take (more is better ofc) the line you take in corners and how close you can follow the first car without touching it when it's your turn to be second.

The lead car is all about the angle distance you keep from the chase car, you get more points by leading with a gap. the chase car get’s points by the same thing with angle, but more importantly how well they can keep up with the lead. the smaller the gap: the more points for the chase. the bigger the gap: the more points for the lead. but either of them can suffer a big hit if they make a correction or mistake that causes them to straighten out or miss zones
