watching Taylor mess with the setup so much makes me want to support BC and everything they do. not many companies would go through that much R&D to get it just right

Basically digressive is the ultimate Daily Driver coilover?

Yeah pretty much. It'll perform more predictably as cornering gets more and more aggressive yet makes bumps less harsh when driving around town.

YAY! A youtube video about suspension with legitimate suspension science and theory! Dude, the fact you even mentioned suspension travel and bump stops in a video created in 2017 blows my mind...........the fact you EXPLAINED progressive dampening and decided on function > "moar low bruh" makes me soooooooooo happy.
@DJ.10017 жыл бұрын
Digressive shocks are the bomb. That's why everyone praises the fortune auto coils. I bet the Digressive BCs are just as good. Has a nice tuner car feel but doesn't kill you on the street.
@Nasonix2 Жыл бұрын
FA's are way beyond BC's with their double concave digressive pistons and valving. But the real reason why neither of them are truly good for a real race team is because they both are held back by the same fundamental design flaws. They're both 2-piece coilovers. For that reason, they will ALWAYS be limited/robbed of total shock travel. If you want full compression stroke before hitting the bumpstops, guess what? You have to sacrifice all your rebound travel to have it. And vise versa. Whereas a TRUE chassis-specific 1-piece Coilover won't have that problem. You'll have near-OEM travel or potentially even greater with a one piece shock. That's why one piece shocks are never less than $3-5k+. They range anywhere normally from 5k-15k for a set of 4 shocks. And those are what real race teams use. Not these two piece coilovers. You can find out more about this with some research. If you want the best just skip all 2-pc shocks completely. Even ohlins fall into that category (atleast most of their offerings that are less than $3k). In layman terms the most shock stroke you'll ever see in a 2-pc shock is in the 80mm-125mm range. 1-pc shocks will be 180-200mm+. There's no comparison. You get both full rebound travel and full compression travel (even with slammed race car ride heights) with true single piece coilovers. The majority of these budget coilover brands won't want you to know this though. Because 2-pc shocks are just cheaper to assemble. These companies just buy shock cartilages from a overseas catalog and if you're lucky they do their own revalving n some r&d. It's what allows us to have them as an option in our price range. It is what it is Cheers yaw and awesome content as always Taylor. Past and present

THANK YOU!!! 8-) the info you included paramount for me in making my decision to go with BC Racing's DS over its BR Series with Swift springs for my 2001 Toyota (2zz-swapped) MR2 Spyder was twofold: 1. your side-by-side physical comparison & description @ 1:50, exemplifying the DS as what blatantly appears to be of heavier duty, thus of higher quality; 2. your simple but most helpful chart @ 3:!5, visibly exemplifying the effective difference between the physics of a standard/linear shock/strut design (like the BR Series) vs. a digressive shock/strut (like the DS Series), which seems to exemplify the digressive design theory as being superior to the standard linear design for not merely a sports car, but just about any vehicle.
@DuBstep1154 жыл бұрын
Is the DR series now called DS?
@infinityBBC4 жыл бұрын
@@DuBstep115 i'm not certain, but i'm kind of thinking that might be the case. i just checked their product line & i don't see a DR series listed. the DS is definitely a digressive piston design: www.bcracing-na.com/product/ds-series-coilover-toyota-mr2-spyder-2000-2005?gfid=p3080-c24643

This tech comes out of motocross. As they stiffen up the shocks to prevent bottoming on slow hits, like landing a jump, the rider would be absolutely punished by sharp bumps like roots and rocks. It is called "multi-speed" valving in MX. It didn't take long for the rest of racing world to adopt that, especially since manufactures like Ohlins make both MX and car shocks. (I've raced MX and offroad for many years) The other slow input digressive shocks really manage, besides driver input, are track undulations. Degressive cars feel PLANTED in undulations. Some years back, my wife bought me a "drive a retired NASCAR" package at Texas Motor Speedway. What blew me away about those cars was not the power, but how amazingly stupendous the suspension was. Fast forward to today, I've put custom valved and sprung Bilstein inverted cartridges on my Z06. Along with Delrin bushings, the drive experience is "just like that." It is really hard to overstate how much better the car is. Body control is flawless while the ride is buttery smooth. Traction in chop is way up, especially in braking bumps. The tires just follow the surface better. I am running a fully built 8.2L RHS block LS. Regardless, the suspension is definitely the star of the show. If you're going to mod your Covette, this is where you should start (but won't)
